The unit sizes are the same as in KoW, except for the Nagarri which isn't available as a single model in KoW

Has anyone seen either of the new Kings of War Champions kits yet? I was able to pick up June’s release in late May but haven’t had any luck finding it in the US yet.

Mark from the Mantic Universe Podcast posted unboxing videos of the kits and said that the local store stocks it

I finally heard back from flipsidegaming on eBay where I’ve purchased every single kit so far.

We spoke with our ordering team and they are unsure at the moment if / when we will be able to acquire these products. We apologize that we could not provide you with more information.

I don’t know what’s going on but I’ve not found any of the latest kits for sale in the US.

Did the have any stuff distributed by Diamond ? A whole bunch of RPG, Gaming and Comic companies have stock stuck in Diamonds warehouse, while Diamond is trying to seize it to help pay their bankrupcy which they may (or may not) be able to due due to a legal technicality, it's in court now

alternatively maybe the US stock of the new stuff is earmarked for gencon and will slip into general sale after that

I think all the stuff with Diamond is much older stuff. I’ve had no issues getting kits until recently.

I suspect GenCon or just general tariff stuff is jamming things up.

Rebasing shenanigans. Nope, not gonna do it. Buy molded resin bases, super glue the expensive centerpiece figures to them, then manufacturer changes base sizes for THEIR advantage, not the games. F**K them. I'll stick with the current KoW bases sizes, and will not move to 4th. Hell, I'll abandon KW instead. Mantic has not necessarily lost my custom yet, but they are close. KoW was the only game of theirs I was buying their products.

I welcome this as it's obviously a move to clean up the wonkyness of having tiny heroes running around in a system built for regiments.

List building with "themed" unlocks... that's a different matter. It sucked in Warmahordes and it sucks in AoS 4 and it's probably going to suck here.

I used to have some round bases for Kings of War from Mantic, they were metal and maybe an inch tall.

Whatever happened to those?

4th edition with the base sizes makes sense for champions with the KoW Champions game being out now. The bases I'm describing were metal, round and sort of like a volcano in shape with a flat platform for your model's redibase on top.

Sounds like the original "display" base for Mhorgoth.

I picked up some 50mm bases for making unit fillers for The Old World. I’ll hot glue a dwarf champion on there for now.

I wonder if we’ll see any new minis for the new edition? Hopefully at the very least a new starter set with new stuff. I do wonder if/when Mantic will update the original four Kings of War armies (Elves, Undead, Dwarf, Orcs) with some new hard plastic frames that don’t use redibases.

These were commissioned by the Clash organisers, not Mantic. There are a few left over though Mantic has, but not masses.

I'm really not in love with unit types being Auxiliary, Support and Specialist. Like, that all means the same thing. Flame Belcher goes in which category? Look it up in the book, you'll never tell from its shape or function.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this 4th edition comes out. I'm not totally sure it's necessary to have a new edition, but I've bought every edition so far (even printed out the first free one) and I'm probably not going to stop now. That said, Age of Fantasy Regiments is at a good point now, so if KoW 4th bites, I do feel that for the first time I have a viable KoW alternative that I actually like.

40mm or 50mm is a good thing for Heroes, just for movement balance vs units. Really, as long as base sizes are getting bigger not smaller, expanding the footprint of a base or unit isn't really a problem. Even for those who multibased (definitely not me.) making a base bigger isn't a big deal.

I do wonder if they'll adjust their basic infantry base sizes to be more in line with old world. I wouldn't mind that either, if only because it's hard to fit modern minis on 20mm bases and still rank them up. I had just picked out a bunch of specialty movement trays to play my 25mm round-based minis, but I'll definitely pause on ordering anything until I know more.

Those terms are for balance anyway, like if
Auxiliary never unlocks, Specialist needs 1 and Support 2 unlocks
It doesn't matter because it will differ between armies

But I hope they are using different terms and not the same as in SciFi games

I doubt they’d use sci fi terms for this when they have just released Epic Warpath

I passionately hate rebasing, but I'd already skipped KoW3 entirely. 2e was fine for me, I didn't see the need to upgrade.

Maybe if I find myself stumbling into an active community around here I'll change my tune.

Talk about a game that didn't need a new edition... This and Bloodbowl have me incredibly cynical.

Age of Fantasy Regiments is great fun, and all I need lately, in this genre.

Blood Bowl had a new version a few years ago already with Second Season, when they introduced new dice types.
