Mantic seem to be doing the same deal they did at Christmas time of a bunch of sprues for £20 or £25 with a bag. Did anyone get this at Christmas and was it decent? Or did you end up with a bunch of models you had no interest in?

I got an email today saying they are selling it again, this week only.

Call me a cynic, but it sounds like a recipe for them shifting their lines that haven't sold (so anaemic elves, SpOrcs and notSquats) when all you want is a big bag of zombies.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I've lifted a quote from Warseer, which tends to have more active Mantic discussion (as the company has its own specific section)

I think quite a few people reported getting these:

undead:
6 zombies
6 ghouls
20 skeletons
20 revenant w/ command
(would have preferred more zombies instead of revenants)

dwarves:
10 iron clad w/ command
4 ironwatch
2 shield breakers
( poor shield breakers)

elves:
6 scouts
20 bowmen w/ command
20 spearmen w/ command

orcs:
6 orcs w/ command
2 greataxe

overall: 122 miniatures

Of course it might be a little different this time round, especially as this time it says 'and our warpath range' in the description. What is unarguably however is that it is a sodding incredible deal for so many minis and a bag.

I see it as a decent way to try a little bit of everything in the range. I wouldn't be surprised if that's at least part of it notprop. Still willing to give it a punt for £25.

A couple members of our club split a bag. IIRC, it was similar to what Pacific received. We were pleased with what we got.

It's nice for sampling armies, but it's also a great way for a club to get a whole bunch of warbands for games like Song of Blades and heroes or other small skirmish games.

Actually, those models aren't discontinued. Those were just the smaller sets of them - they are all current ranges, just now you have to buy them in 'platoon' or 'horde' sizes (which were actually always better value anyway).

Imo, if you get anything from Mantic that isn't their Undead range (and within that, NOT Revenants) then you're pretty hard-done by

Their Elves have the oddest proportions... gangly doeesn't say enough.

Thought I'd give the whole 'Blogger' lark a go...
-Cadian 812th (rotting in a cupboard)
-Dark Angels 3rd Company (in disfavour, eBay?)
-Irun'Mahn (pretty and deserve love; why aren't I giving them it?)
-Draigo 'n' his Merry Band (to be continued) - How to magnetise Grey Knight strike squads' two-handed and special weapons
-The Maggot Host

Actually, I think the orcs & goblin range are great as well!

Perhaps that is partly the purpose of this offer - Mantic have had a fair amount of negative press, but generally people's outlook seems to be better when they actually have the model in their hand.

I have only had their elves before. They are not awful but they are way more anorexic than I would like.

Loads of people got this the first time around.

Typically, it was about 100-160 miniatures. There was an even spread too, a little bit of everything, so ignore the cynical posts that are typical of Dakka whenever the company is mentioned.

I'd highly recommend this, and haven't seen anyone post that they'd regretted buying the bag the first time around, even people who weren't all that sure if they liked the models.

And this time you can get it without the bag (which is nice enough, but nothing you can't get out of primark for cheap either) for £20, so you're looking at paying about 15p per figure.

Whatever you think about Mantic, there is no denying that they are damned cheap. I've bought entire armies off them for the price of a single unit from GW.

Keep in mind you don't get bases with the models in this deal, so if you want them, you'll need to buy some alongside it. £7.50 for 100 mantic bases. You'll want a few sprues of 25mm bases and round bases on top of that as well to cover the Orcs and Warpath models.

Also, buying multiples and trading sprues with other people is the best way to get the most out of it. E.g. offer to trade 10 elves you don't want for 6 zombies or ghouls and someone will take that trade. We did a lot of swapping and stuff over on the fanatics board last xmas, and it turned out well.

If you want something specific, grab bags are rarely the way to go.

It's like the old Family Guy joke where Peter wins a boat, but takes the "mystery box," because "it could be anything, even a boat!"

Yeah I figured it was a decent way to try a bit of everything they have as so far I have only tried a box of the elves.

You have to admit though that was pretty funny

I think the grab bag is a great way of checking out Mantic's model range without making a serious investment - I'm not sure whether it is just their sometimes poor photography of the miniatures, but they seem to look a lot better in person than in the official advertising. Even the elves are pretty nice when held in your hand, and the Corporation minis are a bloody lovely little sculpt.

I don't have to try to make anything anything else. The joke was relevant and appropriate for the context of the current situation.

I know that the joke is probably older than you are, and that frightens you, but human culture existed before you.

It's just your average canvas/hessian type messenger bag, nothing out of the ordinary but not bad for a freebie. You can fit a fair few cases in there - I have an entire vampire/undead army in one and an elf army in another.
