Not a fair comparison - videogames reach a FAR wider audience than board/card games, where I think Reaper is now #1 all time in terms of Kickstarters, and will probably remain there.
Until one of the Big Boys launches a Kickstarter...
Also not fair to compare it to Videogames in terms of outlay. You pay US$40-60 for a AAA computer or video game that could last for anywhere between 5 and hundreds of hours of gameplay, with nothing else ever to buy. Miniatures? a little more expensive....

It beat the video games, anyway . Only lost out to a video game console and pretty darn cool watch!
I do think there may need to be a separate Kickstarter interface or the like for things of this scale, so that smaller start-ups and the like don't get overshadowed in their projects.
Personally, I like to direct my funds to smaller ones, but since my friend pledged for this I am considering if I want any of the add-ons

I remember Zombiecide limiting to 3 per extra add-on, I don't know if any of these are / if they've said anything about that.
Nope - you "could" order 10 of everything if you wanted.
They have an additional shipping fee that they levy if you get 5 or more of any one item for overseas customers. For example, if you wanted to do a fire giant army and get 6 of the sets of warriors, you would need to add $10 for the extra shipping. The first 4 are covered with the base shipping, the 5th and 6th one each accrue a $5 fee. If you wanted to group together with a bunch of friends (or are just one person who wants a lot of miniatures) you could get 5 Vampire packages. The first 4 would be covered by the base $25 shipping. The 5th one would get an additional $25 shipping fee.
What is a little bit odd sounding though is that you could get 4 of everything and only have to pay the base $25 in shipping - but if you get 5 of one of the smaller options - it adds $5. Mostly to keep it simple I guess - but, odd none the less.
Now that it is all over and done with, it was an impressive run. While I think the final day might have been handled differently - I think if they would have, it would have just lead to the servers crashing earlier and more often. At least with the way they did it, a lot of fence sitters managed to get on early in the day and it wasn't till the last few hours when the big dragon and Cthulhu were revealed that the sites started going down.
Regarding the big company versus little start-up... Ehhh. Reaper is probably bigger than a good chunk of the miniature companies out there, but smaller than the big ones. If you take a look over at their site, they posted up some videos from their HQ for todays finale party. While I am sure they are comfortable, they do not look to be living high on the hog. Kickstarter ends up being a great thing for them, just as much as it does for the really little guys. Reaper backing several different projects also ended up driving backers to them as well. Somewhere around half the people who backed Tre over at RBG ended up getting pushed their because of the Reaper campaign. So that is good too.
I think for other privately held companies, they should look hard at it for doing big projects. There are a lot of them out there who could benefit from something like this too. Enable them to really push out a lot of great products and convert from expensive metals to the less expensive plastics. Until a company like Privateer Press or Corvus Belli decide to do a plastic conversion campaign - Reaper should be sitting pretty at #3 for some time to come. Granted, it would be pretty neat for both of them to come along and have 3 of the top 5 most funded Kickstarter Campaigns be miniatures.
Just wait till after my bank account has recovered some.

I make it $397 for all options + a case and swapping out Sophie for $25 of extras. + International shipping obviously also.
So for example I'll get one of every option, 2x cases (1 using Sophie trade) and I backed at $400 so I have $3 extra for Reaper to take as a bonus.
It's an insane deal when you think just how many mini's we'll be getting and many of them will be of display size. Really can't wait. First / Second quarter next year is going to be huge with Mantic, Sedition Wars, Reaper and Red Box all having releases around then.
I say to myself that's it, can't back any more but I know that Tre is planning another before then and Mantic has Dreadball up at the moment not to mention Dreamforge as well.
If the companies have any compassion at all they will wait a few months before hitting us up again as it's going to take at least till Jan before I have a disposable income again. I imagine many are in the same boat too.

Here is my tribute to the success of the Reaper Miniatures Bones kickstarter:
I like stretch goals and I cannot lie,
You other backers can't deny.
That when a goal get reached with an itty bitty wait
And a model in your face you add funds!
Wanna add so much,
Cause you saw that level was stuffed,
New goals they be swearin'
I'm hooked and I can't stop sharing!
Oh Kickstarter, I want more figures,
And more new pictures.
My forums tried to warn me,
But that stretch you got makes m-m-me give money!
Ooh, Reaper minis,
More models you want to send?
Well, use me, use me,
'Cause you ain't an average indie!
I've seen the pledgin'
Hell yeah with stretchin'.
Pledge's set, yet,
More options I gotta get!
I'm tired of seeing things,
Sayin' Kickstarters are lying.
Take the average backer and ask him that,
He'll have a heart attack.
So, backers!
(Yeah!)

Has your pledge made the stretch?

I had the same problem. the way I solved the giant dilemma is thinking about price, 2 female giants during kickstarter =$20, after oficial release =$20 +or- $3. No great savings there.
If the males don't interest you go for dragon and C'Thulhu, if you do want the males agonize over the choices or up your pledge by $20 in the Reaper pledge manager when it arrives.

I've decided to get the frost giants and the $10 bone dragon; although I love the face of the female fire giant, I think that I would be happy to pick her up at a later date and get the bone dragon instead. Same with C'Thulhu.
Also, painting this horde should take me long enough that I can save up enough to get them

If you are interested in Cthulu - you may want to pick him up now as opposed to later. The last two options will probably have the largest increases in price over their current option price. Granted, even at full retail, they are silly cheap.

A lot of this stuff isn't shipping until March 2013 - so I think they'll be OK.
Plus, given what we've heard about their overall 'smarts' and the number of figures they can cast per day, they'll probably be just fine...

Yep, since they know it is coming - and they have a few years of sales data...they will likely just increase production on metals for the first few months of 2013 in order to have a months worth of extra stuff on the shelf. Once the plastics show up, they can push their entire staff over to filling boxes of plastic figures and shipping those out. It may take a few weeks to clear them all, but if you figure somewhere around 6,000,000 miniatures with 30 full time Reaper Peeps to work on it...each one only has to handle 10,000 miniatures a day in order to get all the orders out within one month...10 hour days, 1000 miniatures an hour...250 or so miniatures per box...4 boxes an hour per person.
Huge numbers, but entirely reasonable. I would hate to be the USPS guy though who comes around for the daily mail pickup though. An extra 1200 parcels each day for a month would likely drive him to go...well...postal. I am wondering how many will get repurposed as some form of Nurgle Greater Demon (Great Unclean One or something along those lines). He sort of is half way there depending on how you paint him up - and you can afford to do a lot of modifications to a $10 figure before you get to the £104.00 price tag of the Forge World figure. Projected to be taller than the FW one, but if it were in the same pose - they would likely be comparable.

Well.
Don't forget the dimensions this KS was working in financially too.
On the last stretch, they asked for a +200.000 for the undead Dragon and +100.000 for Cthulhu.
That is 300.000 in itself funded for just two plastic minis. Nice minis (presumably), but just 2 minis.
The entire Relic Knights KS with 6 or so factions, a board game, cards, tokens, several dozens of miniatures isn't 300.000 in total. The entire Kings of War KS by Mantic was, which was considered rather successfull, did just over 300.000 in total.. again.. full game and all.
Imagine "Sculptor Joe" posting a new Kickstarter and asking for 300.000 to sculpt and produce just 2 miniatures?
Sure, Reaper has this "on top" of all their other stuff, but they should also now have the padding to make it happen.
[edit]
It is also noteworthy to take a look at some of the numbers crunched by Appsblogger
Yes, they got funded, but did they deliver?
Still waiting on your Kickstarter reward? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Based on a sampling of projects in the Design and Technology categories3:
Only 25% of projects delivered on time!
According to Prof. Mollick’s model, after 8 months of delay, 75% of finished products (as opposed to give-aways like t-shirts) will have been delivered.
The larger the project, the more likely it will be delayed and the longer it will be delayed.
Reaper may be one of the companies that breaks the trend, but generally speaking, the more a Kickstarter is overfunded, the more likely is a delay and the longer is the delay it seems.

Loose the wings and add a couple of enhanced gun arms from the T'Fex and you get a Ymgarll GC that could probably sub as an upright Heirophant.
