I was thinking the same thing (re plastic bags) but if it keeps them protected (that's a lot of padding) I don't care.
Also wondering how big the box with close to all of the added extras will be...

JoshInJapan wrote:That is, indeed, a lot of minis. I hope that they figure out a better way to ship them that in individual plastic bags. That would be a lot of garbage.
I think the video is pretty clear that that is the way they will come. I like the bags as it will keep the minis separate and easier to sort.
The bags are far better than blister packages for all of them which would have more plastic, more card, a bigger shipping container and more postage. Also it's nice to see that there aren't other unnecessary packaging materials so the box is about as small as it can be.

Wow, that's a lot of figs!
And I disagree with you guys on packaging... plastic bags is about the least-packaging-heavy way of doing it, imo, and is pretty smart of them.

Yep - I can't really think of a way to package them with less packaging. They could in theory just toss them all in...and while Bones is a durable material...I am guessing that more than one postal agency in the world would manage to shake, drop and kick the boxes so hard that they cause the various interlinked figures to pull apart.
Now add into all of that all the dragons, giants and demons that were available as options. I think it will be a long time before something quite as epic comes along again (at least till Reaper Bones KS 2.0).

That packaging will be just fine!
Any word on how the extras will be packaged? That is just the base pledge. I imagine it will still be bags just in a different box?
Can't wait to get a box that full of minis. It will be better than christmas!

The packaging is perfect imo. Could you imagine if they were all blistered with cardboard backings? I'd have to hire someone on craiglist to open them all.

All those little plastic bags (especially if ziplock) can also potentially be re-used when bitz trading with your fellow wargamers. I use little ziplocks that size for bitz all the time.

The new Bones have been spotted in the Alliance Games database.
Soon we will know the suggested retail price for all the goodies we got for so little.
The Auld Grump, well... comparatively little... $300 isn't that much, is it?

A slowed down version of the vampire pledge level minis pan.
Has anyone seen the retail prices from Alliance yet? Reaperbryan said he thinks the vampire pledge works out to about $515 full retail.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games. |

The other solution is to pledge for as many other KS's as possible before they show up. That way you can safely stop buying after the Reaper box shows, and yet still have a flood of mini's incoming for the next year or so.

Found what looks to be a price list for reaper's bones figures:

Other than the ones that are obvious mistkes, the retail prices on Bones look pretty excellent. At a local store I grabbed a few blisters without really paying attention and pulled out a 20 and got a 10 back and some loose change and I was like, what?! It was weird getting such good value for the money.

WHen I was home on vacation, I picked up the basic Bones fighter that everyone seems to have and used it as my little test piggie painting project.
In the whole?
The figure is light. If the one I picked up was any indication of the wieght of the others, your not going to have a wieght issue in the execution of the first run of Bones. Postage wieght won't be an issue at all.
I used primer on mine. No isues, what so ever. It took to primer, and no cracking, brittleness, or issues that you would have expected on spray painting soft plastic. If anything, the material was very durable.
Issue I had was the point on target of conversions.
You won't be able to do very good using additional reapers stuff such as those weapons packs and arms/ legs/ tenticles from the components line.
Sticks to a base quite well, and Zap a Gap was fine to use in the attachment.
I'm curious to see if the wings on the dragons pin well and the gapping that usually becomes an issue with the metals.
I'm also curious as to how the material reacts with miliput/ green stuff/ filler.
So in a nutshell?
Not bad... so far.

You won't be able to do very good using additional reapers stuff such as those weapons packs and arms/ legs/ tenticles from the components line.
I don't understand what you're saying here - could you give us some additional thoughts on this?
Thanks!

Uuuh, the figures might get top heavy if you use metal bits? (I can advise low denomination coins epoxied under the base, if that's and issue?)
If it's not that, it might be that bits won't be available separately as they were on the metals, anymore.
Well, first off: I believe they stated during the project (nearly) all Bones minis will still be available in metal and anyway, the whole bones mini will probably cost about as much as one or two of the metal bits so that wouldn't really be an issue either, I'd think?

Sorry for the confusion.
Basicly, Reaper has additional weapons/ conversion bits packs. Metal ones.
AND in the off chance I have a Bones mini, and I want to change a sword. ( For example, I take my fighter, with the bendy "Bones" sword casted on the mini, and I want to cut it off and add an Ax/ additional weapon.)
I will have an issue with adding the changed over metal weapon to the Bones figure. I would consider recommending boring out the weapon, but even then, your going to have issue with the figure.
All in all? Yes, they are in fact available in metal, but for us converters out there, are you suggesting that you trade off the bones( cheaper) mini for the metal original, ( P90's or whatever thier called?)
I should quite think they would be the opposite. If anything, I'd get a body for a dragon in metal, and his/ its wings would come in the Bones material.
Those OG gamester minis from the old days have rather LARGE wings, hjeads, arms BTW. I'm looking also at you, oh giant BONE giant.
The figure I bought for the test was akin to one of those figures in the game "Zombies". (The little zombie guy, not the player token.)
Seeing a rather larger figure, such as the Giants, or even the larger figures such as the Gnolls is going to be very interesting indeed.
Even if they do something as specific as the reissue of the Giant Spider, you do realize how big these guys I'm describing are?
One giant spider I have in metal is around 3" around. the legs themselves are around 2 inches to 2 and a half inches.
In this Bones material, i might be so bold as to say that there might even be an issue in the support.
Bottom line- Support, and conversion pieces.
The bone material might have an issue in there, particularly in the larger figs.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

Are you sure that there is going to be a problem? Isn't the Bones material hardish plastic? I have had no problem putting metal bits on plastic figures before.

So far, conversions of Bones figures will have little to no issues, in my experience.
This is an in-progress conversion of the Bones Minotaur, excerpted from my Modelling Log here on Dakka:
Taarnak wrote:
I am converting the Minotaur that I got. The pose was too hunched, his head was protruding from his chest, and the musculature needed work. Also, I wanted to add a bit more Greek flavor to him.
Here is where he is at right now:
I lengthened his torso at least a quarter inch. Then re-sculpted pretty much all of it. Then his head was put on top of his torso and the neck sculpted to add it into the torso. The sword blade was made from plasticard.
Everything white (exept the sword) is the original Bones miniature. Green parts are Kneadatite, grey parts are ProCreate. Lots left to do, but I am very happy with him so far.
Original figure for reference
There is tons of sculpting material here and the only time that I had any trouble with it is when it is spread out very thin on a part of the model that flexed. When that happened, the sculpting material tended to lift up on the edges.
The sword blade is made from laminated plasticard and pinned in place on the hand. Superglue held it all with no issues. Even the extensive pinning done inside the torso was no issue.
I think we'll be fine with Bones conversions using the Reaper metal weapons. It is basically the same as what I have done above.

It's actually a fairly flexible plastic, but only on bits that are relatively thin, so human sized arms can be twisted with ease. I have seen someone replace the bones swords of a figure with metal swords and there wasn't an issue with bending though, so I'm unconcerned.
However, seeing that price list makes me sad that I passed on the demons and dragons sets. Those two were significant discounts!
