Subject: What president from tlhe past do you wish was in the running for this election?
I know this may be difficult to grasp, but Al Gore and Bill Clinton are different people.
I know it may be difficult to grasp but incumbent parties at the high point of economic cycles always get re-elected. But Gore didn't. he didn't even carry his home state.
People were tired of the Clintons at that point. With no 3rd party muddying up the waters this time it would have been a real problem.

George Washington. At the height of his power, he stepped down and turned the Republic back over to the people. He could have been President for life, but he valued the survival of his country and the people more than his personal ambition.
We need another George Washington.

The very definition of hilarity is to talk about Gore's loss in 2000 as some sort of popular revolt against the Clintons, when Gore still won the popular vote.
That's either hilarious or insane. Probably just plain ol' stupid, though.

Popular smopular. He didn't win the only thing that counts: the electoral vote.
And he lost it to the Shrub. Seriously? Thats like losing to Walter Mondale, or Mitt Romney...

Again Frazz, elections are mostly about individuals and matchups. Clinton and his team would have run a more effective campaign than Gore and company, nevermind the giant charisma gap between the two of them. Gore's failure to win doesn't reflect on the Clintons as much as the fact that it's very rare for a current VP to get elected for the top job in a non-death/assassination/impeachment type scenario. After GHWB, I think the last one was Coolidge? And as noted, Gore actually still won the popular vote.
Let's put this more clearly -- Clinton was so popular that Pinocchio the wooden candidate almost made it to the Presidency on his coattails.
No U.S. President in the post-WWII period left office with a higher approval rating than Clinton, and that includes *Ike*. Dubya would have lost handily to Clinton. Texas <> the rest of the country.
I'm not playing party games here, if that's what you think. Reagan would have won again too, even with Iran-Contra. And I personally think Clinton was a flawed president beyond his various personal issues.

Since FDR, which is really the only Presidential data that matters due to changes in electoral compositon, what you're describing happened all of once*. If you're trying to claim "always" you probably need more grounding than a single data point.
*And prior to FDR you see Republicans dominating after the Civil War (I wonder why?), and then TR taking over under special circumstances (read: assassination of McKinley). I guess you could also count Truman, but he basically got a free pass into his first term by way of FDR's death.
But Gore didn't. he didn't even carry his home state.
Because Gore was an awful campaigner. So was GHWB but Bush was running against the equally wooden Dukakis. Compare this to Bush II who was actually a pretty solid politician, if not necessarily an effective leader.
Also, Gore's home state was Tennessee, and he was running as Democrat against a post-Gingrich Republican. Hell, after 8 years in a Clinton White House (and being born in DC) its questionable as to whether he even had a home state.

Truman.
Edit: Bah, I misread you. It was Coolidge.

Just read it. The man was literally a God amongst men.
Until you get to parts like this...
"initiated ethnic cleansing and forced relocation of Native American tribes from the Southeast to west of the Mississippi River."
Which actually isn't really true. He was more lenient than the populace at the time.

Nixon is needed now. His mastery of international affairs would be excellent.
I'm actually fairly confident that Nixon's approach to the present situation wouldn't differ all that much from what we're actually seeing, especially given some of Kissinger's comments over the last ~12 years. Though if we had Nixon instead of Bush, we probably wouldn't have invade Iraq or Afghanistan. Of course Nixon probably wouldn't have gotten elected either.
He just would have to be kept away from seeing Patton or we would for sure be invading somewhere.

You can have her.
No they cant they can feth off.
Sensible British people are well aware of how awesome she is so were keeping her.
I especially like how all the fethers who hate on the Queen go on about how they hate how people are in "awe" of her (I'm not), and then they go off and make a big sign to wave, and maybe buy a t-shirt, and some buttons, and then go and holler and hoot and cheer and shriek at slimy career politicians like they are rock stars even though we all KNOW they are all self serving scumbags!
So you can just move to France, ignore the monarchy, and gleefully start treating some effete, self-loathing, left leaning hipster douche-bag with a closet full of skeletons like a living God instead whilst I merely have a grudging respect for a dignified old lady.
The queen herself seems like a fairly dignified and respectable human being.
Monarchy as a whole can suck it though. I'd quite happily see them swinging from the lamp posts.
Know who the richest British person on earth is? The Duke of Westminister. Know how he got his wealth? Ancestrally. His ancestors stole land during the 1066 invasion and they've been living off it ever since.

That's an awful thing to say.
Why? Our nation was founded on that very concept. Show me a king and I'll show you a dictator. After all the White Tower wasn't for parties.

Demonstrably false. The wealth of the Grosvenors is based on thier ownership of parts of Mayfair and Belgravia which the family received through marriage to a scrivener's daughter, not from the ancestral holdings of the Earl of Chester. The lands in Eaton have not been the families primary source of income in at least the last 200 years if not from the moment they received thier London estates in 1677. The current has Duke of Westminster largely seen his wealth grow through the Grosvenor Group's expansion in the mid 20th century initially under his father and then under his own guidance. Not to mention his other privately owned financial groups. The richest Briton also has a long and distinguished career serving the public in the military. In other words: no his wealth is not ancestral, and he hasn't "just lived off" his wealth.
