I'm not sure that somewhat static and 2D-looking, snap-together Chaplain is worth the extra $8 bucks (plus 15-20% off that you could get getting the regular edition from online retailers).

They made the error of making a limited release that had no wider application to GW players, the reason that Space Hulk sold so well (the number of original space hulk players was alot less that the number of limited sets) was that it had very well modelled space marines and genestealers that 40k players would want to use in game.

I wouldn't deny the possibility of that being a factor (though I think you greatly underestimate the popularity of Space Hulk back in the day - I'd put a hefty wager on GW having sold significantly more than 60k Space Hulk sets over the preceding twenty years), and I'm sure that it's also the explanation GW would choose to believe. I, on the contrary, see DreadFleet's abysmal failure principally as a heartening sign that, even among GW gamers - a group not exactly considered by the broader gaming world to be the most discerning - a well-written game will succeed where a badly- (in this instance very, very badly) written one flops.

I'd say at most two weeks, I think Spacehulk and Dreadfleet lasted about that long (maybe a little less iirc)

Space Hulk sold out within days of its Games Day 2009 launch, Dreadfleet hung around clogging up inventories for about six months (Games Day 2011 - February 2012).

There's probably a causal link between those two statistics and the fact that Space Hulk has won three Origins awards, while Dreadfleet was so bad that Jake Thornton actually called it the worst game GW ever released.

Edit: stupid urls.

You'll find that most independant stockists still have a dust covered copy of Dreadfleet on the shelves.

Yep, mine still has one!

I know of at least 4 copies in my city, there may be more.

Because it offers us a chance to look back and sneer at DreadFleet. Which is also still here, gathering dust in a bargain bin.
