Subject: Help identifying Stormraven Model?

I bought on eBay what I thought was a Stormraven model, but it doesn't have the central cockpit with canopy, and it doesn't have the manned turret right above the pilot. Also, the wings don't loop over the engine the way they do in the current model-they meet the body below the engine.
So what is this model?
Thanks.

Could be one of the Valkyrie conversions to a storm raven people made before there was a model. But a picture would help identify it.

Yeah, that's from that brief period after the Blood Angels codex but before the Stormraven model where nobody knew exactly what it would look like so they just jammed Valkyries and Land Raiders together a bunch. The results were mixed at best.

Personally, I like it much more than the official model, though it could really use a port-side wing for the whole "flying" thing.
The asymmetrical cockpit is interesting, but in a good way.

$45 on eBay. Thought I was getting a fantastic deal and couldn't understand why no one was bidding higher.
Oh well.

It looks like a flying land raider to me and that it. Personally I would check to see if the ebay description said anything about it being a scratch / kit bash build of the storm raven and not the actual model itself, and then I would contest the purchase and get my money back since you are trying to sell it and for cheaper than what you bought it for.

It's not a scratchbuild, it's a kitbash. There is a difference! If the seller didn't mention anything about it being a kitbash or a conversion, you can dispute it and get your money back.

It's kinda strange as it has Grey Knight FW doors, but the Storm Raven-Model was released just before the Grey Knight-Codex and the conversion should be more expensive than a Storm Raven kit (even now), as he had to buy a Land Raider and at least some parts of a Valkyrie.

For what it's worth, I really like it, it's quirky. the only think I'd change is the look of the cockpit (not its position, just the aesthetic). I'm not quite sure where the hull mounted weapon (multi-melta or whatever) is. It might look a bit odd run alongside a 'proper' raven but I don't think you got a bad deal (though I think you might have a case for a refund if it was indeed described just as a stormraven and nothing indicated it might be a kitbash (beyond possibly the photo because it might be the case that you couldn't reasonably know what a 'real' stormraven looked like -- i wouldn't bet the farm on that though).
|
Follow these two simple rules to ensure a happy Dakka experience:
Rule 1 - to be a proper 40K player you must cry whenever a new edition of the game is released, and always call opposing armies broken when you don't win.
Rule 2 - Games Workshop are always wrong and have been heading for bankrupcy within 5 years since the early 90s. |

That is a really cool kitbash, go with it. Hell if I had it I would be proud to put it on the table, it looks so much cooler than the Stormraven.

Even though there is (presumably) quite clearly photographs of what was bought. It was very clear what was being sold and what it was used as. If there was any confusion all it took was a question to the seller before buying. If I sold this to you, you'd get no dice on that refund.

I think you got a good deal. Its certainly more expensive than the normal model (Landraider + Valkyrie + Forge World Apparently), not to mention that it obviously took a lot of time and effort to make it, and it looks a bit better than the standard model. It doesn't have that stupid hole underneath it for one thing.
