so.... the first round of reinforcements have arrived.
in the form of 30 squigs / 10 herders from the electronic bay.
20 of them are metal (including 1 oop larger squig), and 10 are finecast.
all 10 handlers are metal, including 2 that are OOP
next incoming batch will be...
these guys...
52 on the way, including i think 10-12 rogue trader era. Green doesn't quite fit the theme of my army and I'm not sure how many are metal/plastic so... Might have to just keep them as is (well rebasing them on 20mm square of course)... cause the paintjob seems to be pretty good.... i'll feel like a d bag playing with models i didn't paint though? which makes me want to strip them....
the red primed ones i got, 20 are metal like i said so I could strip them... just paint the 10 finecast ones as red...
currently my squig units are as follows... help me pick some color themes
squig herd 3 oj / 4 red
boss on orange squig
boss on squig (unpainted)
10 squig hoppers (unpainted)
mangler squig (1 started red, other squig in the duo is still primed black.. figured do him up as OJ or yella)
squig slingshot / squig flying through air (unpainted)
20 base coat red metal squigs
10 base coat red finecast squigs
52 various green squigs incoming
14 fine cast squigs (unpainted)
Currently my NG have yellow moons, silver edges on shields... red hood on captains, haven't started the yellow flames on hoods yet
I prefer orange/yellow/red squigs myself. I thought having some lucky blue squigs sounded good as well. I have these 52 green ones though and... trying to figure out a good scheme...
thoughts mates?
thanks for reading through my diatribe, brevity not a strong point, i know.
Currently i have 4 red squigs, and 3 orange... my mangler will be 1 red squig, and 1 orange? (next mangler probably different colors)

Some of the liter green ones could be given a couple washes of red/yellow/orange to (maybe) give their skin a veiny look. They all look like metal ones, tho, so it should be easy to strip them.
Also - WOW! That's a lot of OOP squigs! It looks like there are less of the newer squigs.
Yeah, that long legged one is from the first run of squigs. They were all different breeds. There's one tho, that looks like one of the familiars set. Second row, four from the left.
I can't wait to see them all in one herd. You lucky git!
all my ebay watching like a hawk paid off finally, (and all my contempt at other bidders for beating me on numerous other previous auctions pushing me to buy it now when I saw these)
Hopefully they show up the 6th. Played my first 3 escalation games against dwarves x2 and demons, resulting in 2 major victories, and one very minor. (came down to 2 standards!)
I was running...
50 NG nets spears 1 fanatic
gobbo big boss general
NG big boss standard of discipline
NG warboss on squig spear enchanted shield LA dragonbane gem
9 squigs 11 herders
21 squigs 14 herders
5 squig hoppers
doom diver
the success of the squigs led me to think.... 2000 tourney next month... what to do?
common gobbo general
2 bosses on squigs
lvl 3 sham
lvl 2 sham
50 ng nets spears
50 ng nets spears
archer bunker (small)
mangler squig
mangler squig
doom diver
10 squig hoppers
then... maybe 2 pump wagons (need to make squiggy ones)
maybe a goblin wolf (squig) chariot as well or 3? (problem being i dont want to spend special points when I can easily field 1000 points of just squig herds not to mention 120 worth of hoppers?
what would yall do?
I am going to try and work with the existing paint jobs on as many as I can, as they look good to me but just not my particular color scheme. a few bright green ones have to be kept I think though!
I'm VERY happy there are soo many oop and yup all 52 are pewter!
I was unaware of the familiars set, will have to look it up!
The hard part is going to be deciding which squigs will pull chariots, pump wagons (thinking a rolling squig cage with a wood chipper on front blending food for the gits), etc... I would like to make some count as trolls out of squigs... Reaper make some mushroom men, was thinking of gobbla being held by a chain by a mushroom man? I don't know though. I don't really use trolls. Nix that.
I'm glad that it will be easy to strip them, time to get some simple green concentrate on LAtotalyawesome or whatever
Also need to find me some good spray paints for base coats to save some time!
I really think some royal blue squigs are going to have to happen, as well as lots of orange, and yella!

my 52 squigs showed up today, as well as my zomblin command group which wasn't included in my first batch of stuff from titan force, but it showed, bwoop, thanks titan forge.
the squigs might have been really poorly shipped, with no protection at all making the paintjobs about ruined on all of them, so strippin 90% of em it is!
in other news, about finished this guy, needs some work on teeth where i didnt finsih up, and some basing elements... not sure what else?
makes me wanna punch the git in the mouf for being so good.
bastard.
In any case, I'd like to go back to my currently painted squigs and achieve the extreme high light like he did if anyone has any tips.... I'm assuming mix in bleached bone and highlight to hearts content...?
edit... failed embedded picture. I suck. Fin.

So I only have about 160 night goblins, but I figure I could get up to 3000-3500 points (barely above min. core value) but figure expanding on gobbos is easy.
so, I ordered 8 chariot bases, will make some squig themed chariots and pump wagons. how many gobbo chariots do people usually run together though?
I figure I should make a count as giant or 2, (small giant squigs) (taller i figga)
and a coupla count as arack spiders, again giant squigs
I like how you did ur freebooters, i just love the whole ork stereotypical pirate theme, gets me every time. Oh and extra brownie points for that mega-nob, imo scratch built mega nobz look better than gw ones.
Can't wait for the gargant-squid, but it looks a bit bland right now, but im sure ull fix it good and propa'.
Oh and friendly advice, read my signature.
Been working on some squigs. Used whiffle gold balls. Had 1 bigger from a kids play set. Little cutoff and putting some coverage to fill in holes for now.
Thinking of making these where I can cast them, have myself 3 more mangers, plus a bunch of great cave squigs/squig here fillers
Figure these would be good practice for the colossal squig!

woops missed your post, yeah i had added a quick post after the fact reiterating those were just some squigs another fella did I found online and like, and will hopefully imitate to a degree.
Thank you mate, I love the custom mega nobs people make.
my photogrpahy is extremely poor, I know, when I have something worth taking a good photo of I'll work harder on that aspect

Thank you! Really do love your work! Once I get the core painted of my forces going back to building MANZ for apoc games/deffwing lists!
Thank you. I'm going to subscribe here, your work is really awesome. Spacecats made a translation of my MeganobZ tutorial.
How do you realize the wood effect in Plastic card ? I'ts unbelievable !
Congrats for your freebooterZ army ! They are awesome (and I can't wait to see what you will doing with these ball :p)
Thanks for subbing Lucius, and your compliments. I have subbed to you as well. I'm considering doing an ork mercenary force "count as" DA army or some marines, so I can use more MANZ... and so I can deep strike/drop pod those gits. I'm not playing much 40k these days, and my goblin/squig affair has gotten in the way of my freebooters. Maybe I can make some of my manz in your style for variety when the time comes.
The way I achieve woodgrain is, cutting styrene into a long strip 12" long by whatever width you want board/plank. I then take a hack saw blade and drag it perpendicular across this strip repeatedly, changing pressure and gradually sweeping direction back and forth to give the lines some curves. after this is done you sometimes will have a fine power/dust/shavings accumulated on facing of wood. I do not sand this. I use my thumbnail and drag across it scraping it off. When I try sandpaper it removes this but then begins removing the top layers of plastic and removing some detail of the "grains" you just cut.
On the ends I cut triangular shapes out to look like split ends of boards/wear & tear
There is a good instructional video on youtube, which I can't find at the moment.
The fella uses a "razor saw" instead of a hack saw blade. I would use one too if I had one, but I don't.
will post some better photos later this week hopefully.
for now this tidbit. added a pile of sprues/legs/arms/etc and going to GS a sheet covering it and let the goblin ride atop the pile. (hes not glued in currently so holding the reigns wonky)
its an OOP undead chariot from way back when. the NG are from titan forge. "zomblins".
in other news, I stripped the 52 metal squigs. some paint left in crevices, figure maybe bathe them in acetone and electric toothbrush again?
in other other news, have 9 more of those chariots to work with. figure make 3 squads of NG themed tomb kings. (cave kings!)
problem is, the scythes on the wheels. freakin huge! like 1" long. you can't rank the chariots up together because of this. the scythes poke through the spokes of the chariot next to it.
even if i removed the scythes from middle chariot, the outside ones would be pokin thru the middle one... i suppose i could leave the scythes on just the outside wheels of outside chariots... but seems lame as hell.
any thoughts? i thought of using cardboard to boost the heigh of the chariot like it was bouncin over some rocks? but I figure that might get in the way of gameplay. ie. making me a hidey hole to put someone behind the terrain on the base and use it to BLOS? (my understanding is that no rule in fantasy exists that you ignore basing elements for TLOS like in 40k)
I just didn't want to seem lame. I would always let people have TLOS through it if they allowed me the same courtesy to their basing elements..
warning shameless self promotion
In any event, I figure I can get the VC and TK armies done in a few weeks time, showcase my speediness, and skills or lack thereof. In all seriousness though, I've decided to try and do some commission work and build my reputation up and hopefully supplement my income. Hopefully once I get my 3d printer up and going, can do more. (print rough armatures to be sculpted onto more quickly for instance)
I will hopefully for now be offering services sculpting, scratchbuilding, kitbashing, and painting. I can do it all if you really want. I'm only offering what is in my comfort zone. Don't expect golden daemon quality work from me. I feel like I can do above table top quality though, but not "true" display quality. I may call it my display quality, but in comparison to some other individuals... it won't compare! However, I think those individuals would probably charge a lot more.
I don't have a website yet or anything, so if anyone has any helpful hints, suggestions on where to go next, I'm all ears. (really interested in what website one would use etc.. I'm not a programmer or anything near one. Hell if you know me from dakka, that should be evident with my plethora of broken links, sideways images, etc. Sad part is in addition to my job, I also wear the hat of the resident "I.T." guy at work. sad state of affairs it is! lol
I plan on starting a new painting/modeling blog dedicated to just commission work. so keep an eye out if you're interested.

The Squig Cult look sweeet, you've actually tempted me into trying some Fantasy Gobbo's myself!
...Now go back to your Freebootaz, you might just inspire me to get my butt in gear with mine again
Thanks alot mate! I love my goblins. They are a lot of fun. They remind me more of orks in 40k in 5th ed, when deffrollas were king. more randomness, it's fun.
The only downside is losing because of animosity. Setting everything up just right, for the lynchpin unit to animosity and charge out on its own into some nearby random scrub unit, blocking all other charge paths etc, exposing its flank to my opponents primary block.
Happens like clockwork every couple of games, lol.
I understand Sneakygobbo's frustration with NG in tournament settings more clearly now!
hahaha arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I will try mate. Once I get these 2 undead armies off the ground (har har har) I'm going to have to decide on which of these to finish out. I would really like to enter Armies on Parade with my freebooters or squig cult... but not sure which. The squig cult just needs painting really to get done in time... I have a lot of scratchbuilding for the freebooters, and the painting to boot (har again).
I have until june 29th to enter. so roughly 3 months. I suppose I SHOULD have time to finish either... or both...
I haven't been playing 40k lately honestly. It feels stagnant, and boring. Really really boring. Maybe just needed something "new" like fantasy for a break. The last FAQ about the wound pool/range stuff annoyed me as well. Seems like a fairly large oversight in the rules, not near as niche as FNP vs force weapons etc. I know its easy to just agree before the game, but the ruling disinterested me in playing 40k in a tourney setting for sure... each tourney will rule differently (regional tourney here used their house rules for instance... yeah they got a REALLY great turn out, lol)... Instead of just playing RAW.... its like, I know the rules don't make sense, you know they don't make sense. At least they stay the same until a new faq published for us all to base our army composition and tactics upon... its a common ground. I don't know, getting off topic here. lol
I suppose that's why I'm a bit bitter about 40k now, and not as interested in finishing my freebooters yet.
