Some very smart play by Tony moving up, taking the lumps of Tesla/Death Ray and playing the mission.

That might be, but it was the Vengeful Tornado that IMHO did the strategic damage taking down that one key flyer earlier in the game. The flyer got no Jinks save as well.

But imagine a Foot slogging army doing damn well in the Nova Open. Not supposed to do well by all accounts. But this guy did his homework reading the rules and FAQ's for this event.

Regardless if he wins the whole thing or not. This guy is one class act. I hope he wins it all.

Foot Slogging and Flying are the two main ways to go right now in 6th. Flying gives you great mobility and often great firepower. Slogging allows you to buy a lot of bodies, which is more points in scoring & denial units, still with durability.

Apparently it was also ruled that his "autohits" for chain lightning can hit flyers, even though it isn't resolved as snapfire, and yet blood lance, which does the exact same thing, can't hit flyers. Weird. Wouldn't be the way I'd run it either.

So basically, he auto hits over half his air force, with d6 str 9 hits with no saves allowed. Yeah, that's fair...

That's because Blood Lance is a PSA. Njal's abilities are not PSAs.

Njal's abilities are not shooting attacks, and do not roll to hit. They navigate two key requirements as a result: you cannot evade except after an opponent has "rolled to hit" against you. You DO get cover against those abilities if you have a cover save, but if you have not yet evaded, you cannot against these as they do not fulfill the prerequisite for evasion. Further, they are not shooting, so snap fire is not a relevant component of check.

Following our best attempt at strict raw on this. Reiteration, we did not say you could not jink vs them, only that you could not choose to evade because nothing rolled to hit you [read evade rules carefully).

Yeah, that's not the way I think most FAQs will go, but good to know it didn't really affect the outcome of that game.

Yeah, cool to see him forging his own path, imo. I watched a bit of his round 5 and it looked like he and his opponent were having a fantastic time, too! He does have "home field advantage", though in that he'll have been preparing for this particular iteration of tourney play for some time. But it doesn't matter, the guy is a fantastic player.

Who are the others of the top 4? Did Nick / yermom win round 6 with Daemons to make it in? I'm hoping so

Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but was Tony using a rolled for power, (endurance), and a space wolf book power, (storm caller, I believe, the 5+ cover save)? I was under the imression that if psykers rolled on the powers chart, they had to replace all of their powers.

Perhaps I am wrong though.

Of course. Endurance was on his allied IG Primaris psyker. The Primaris took Biomancy, and Njal kept his SW book powers.

He's playing Kurt Claussen on table 1 again. Alex Fennell and Neil Gilstrap are on the other table.

I'm not surprised. Daemons are really good now.

However, what is interesting is to see them battle back from behind in the statistically 2 games that they don't get their preferred wave in.

So anyone have Tony's list info yet? I saw a rundown of it on the other Nova thread, but I plugged it all into army builder and it came out 100+ short I believe of 1750. I'd be greatly appreciative if someone would post his 1750 and 2k lists. Here I thought SW were dead in this edition.... lolz.

I've been running footslogging SW with great success since 6th released. Heck i just played a RTT last week with 68 powered armored GHs/LFs at 1850pts. Wasn't to hard to figure out the value. Now it will be just another net list. Time to switch up again!

Posted a few months ago that I was building a foot slogging SM army and was buying models before 6th ED was out. Foot slogging armies does work, but that is not the consensus on the interwebs.

Nercon Flyers was, MSU units is another. DeathStars is again another. Those were the core themes.

I only remember one web site that foretold what would happen to those Necrons who did the flying circus which to me is coming true in this tournament. Another site informed me on what to do with DeathStars as well.

You need manpower on the ground to take and old objectives and terrain. Period.

I'm glad that Tony is doing so well with his army.

I wouldn't be so quick to discount necron flyers just yet. They may not be invincible, but they are IMHO by far the most difficult army to deal with currently, especially in a tournament environment. Why? Because if you gear your army more towards anti-flyer army, you'd be less efficient to battle other armies.

Tony is an exception because he's a 40K stud. Don't think for a sec that just because he was able to beat the scythe-crons that they are over-rated. They are the real deal. Period.

And BTW, when I am talking about scythe-crons, I don't really mean a pure-flyer necron army but more of a balanced hybrid necron list with both air support and a respectable ground presence.

Flyer lists were pretty bad. I knew of multiple armies that took heavy amounts of flyers and most of them lost very quickly. In fact, everyone that I spoke to about facing the flyer heavy lists beat them and generally with lists that were well balanced to beat both air and ground.

Vehicles cannot score quarters or contest so they essentially counted as dead in both Objectives and Quarters. This made them god-awful. If you could survive Necron strafing runs, you could easily capture the ground. I don't think 3 Wraith squads is enough presence either. Especially when you invest little in troops. I used a Doom Scythe and would probably stick with Annihilation Barges (what do most Infantry units really care if they take 4-5 hits, most of the time at NOVA you have cover). The Night Scythe is great but I think it is even better when it can deliver a unit with good durability into enemy lines, so something like 6-7 Immortals and a Cryptek.

MSU vehicle lists are not good in the NOVA format. I think having a ton of scoring units that are quite durable is all you really need. I won most of my games by small margins not losing many victory points but giving up even less. Ground lists can easily win the war of attrition. Flyers have limited mobility and if your footprint is large enough you can really restrict their shooting. If the game only goes 5 turns then the Flyers may only shoot you twice.
