So my brother's wife works with a lady that has a rather impressive pepper garden, and told me about all the peppers she gave them. When he mentioned the habanero I said "yanno, Ive honestly never tried one of those" and so on his way here he went. I ate a full, ripe habanero whole in one shot. At first, it wasnt spicey at all, while chewing it, if anything, I thought how bad it actually tasted. But as soon as I swallowed it, the trouble started. The spice was so incredible it took my breath and made it slightly hard to talk. Then after about 2 minutes of it getting hotter and hotter, around the 3 minute mark, it hit its max, and I was left with about 10 minutes of just pure, searing heat.
It sucked. It sucked hard, and then I was left with the nasty taste of that thing in my mouth for an hour. Blah. But I maned up, and took the challenge. I joined the club. It was really unpleasant and I wont do that again without incredible incentive, but I just wanted to share this with DAKKA. Enjoy my stupid

Hottest I've had is a Thai Chile pepper. I cut those up with jalapenos, red, orange, and yellow bell peppers, grill them until darkened/near black and put them in omelettes slathered in cheese and hot Pace salsa.
Yummy!

Oh my GOD isnt that the truth. I wanted to just stop breathing while the burn was on, because that just made it 10x worse

Habanero's are tasty, but they are not to be triffled with. Now give yourself over and try a ghost pepper. I had some chicken wings where the sauce was made for those, and all I could think was "I need chocolate milk". One of my friends almost puked after one.

See, that's just it. The really high Scovil unit stuff is fairly pointless other unless you're a) using it in small doses to add heat to something else, or b) showing off your pain tolerance. If it removes your ability to actually taste food, it isn't a food enhancer, it's a food nullifier.
Understand that I like my Buffalo wings pretty hot, and I'm married to a Korean woman who has heat tolerance higher than mine. Our kids' tolerance will probably end up higher than mine someday too, since she's already getting them started. So there's no shortage of spicy food in our house. But I don't really see the point past a certain level.

I remember when I went to Thailand for Cobra Gold. My first noodle dish which looked harmless was quite an eye opener. Being half Thai myself I had to man up before my team and finish the dish in a professional manner. Afterwards I made sure I had cool baby wipes nearby for the exit drama which was not in a professional manner....I was whimpering.

I had a chili con carne last night, made with the Bedfordshire Super Naga - it was pretty hot, wouldn't care to munch one raw. The Scotch Bonnets I grew last year were evil enough for me, much hotter than the shop bought ones; nobody went back for a second pepper.
Supposedly the worlds hottest is now the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion pepper, weighing in at up to around 2,000,000 Scovile units...wow!

I...um...what? Spicy food is great. Flavorful and full of righteous awesomeness. I ate bites out of an habanero, but never chowed the full thing. I always put one in my homemade pico de gallo though-adds the perfect heat. In college I had a bunch of idiot classmates who passed around a bottle of Tabasco sauce, then all of them ran for drinks-one slurped out of the water fountain, one flaming idiot even drank a Sprite. How DUMB do you have to be? I took a gulp, handed the bottle back to the guy who had it, went back in my room and sat back down to my N64 and continued playing Gauntlet Legends, no drink needed. Wusses.

Habaneros are nasty, nasty things. If you want a good pepper, there's plenty of them out there, but you don't want something that's so hot you can't taste the actual meal. There's a difference between spicy and stupid. I like putting hot sauce on my food-- especially in my pasta-- but at sone point it just become stupid.

I got t try one sometime.
I remember this one time i was eating with my co workers, I let it slip i list spicy foor, They give me a jalepeno, Eat it in one bite. Nothing happens(it wasnt very fresh, the chilled ones are spicier) and my boss just keeps commenting how he cant believe i ate it. He even told my mom who he knew. Now when he calls me a wuss for crying when chopping 100+ onions i remind him of that, he then goes quiet.
I also try to feed my nieces and nephew spicy food, They never fall for it. The one time they did they licked the carpet to get the taste out of their mouth.

I've eaten habaneros for years. My tolerance is such now that to me they register just as hot as a dill pickle tastes to others without the acclimatization.

Pretty much my reaction when I first tried one, not too keen on spicy food in general though I don't mind it once in awhile.
