Yeah, I think I'll go with the old scrawny geezer thing. Perhaps a 2nd in command who is more on the chubby side?

The thing is; how do I sculpt a scrawny rat? The storm vermin models are quite hefty, and if he is supposed to stand out from the crowd, I would need to take a big step away from that.
Thought of going back to the clan rats, but they are really too god damn small.

One option would be too make the model from scratch and cover it extensively in cloaks and rags. Use bits for hands feet and face etc.

A chubbster would be so much easier.

Maybe you just reduce the shading on the model, making him look quite scrawny compared to the others. Also you could paint the fur grey.

I' think I'll need some reference-picture to work from. Rather not a miniature, but some RL-pic or perhaps some Sci-fi artwork. All help is needed here.

The close quarters insurgent pack keeps moving forwards. Here is the champion of the unit with a combi flamer.

The thought is that the unit of 12 will contain two flamers, two meltaguns and this champ with combi weapon. A lot of special weapons sure, but as mentioned before the need every edge they can get.

The model is stretched up by around 5mm by the waist area. I was hoping that this also would make him look thinner, but he ended up one hefty piece of rat. I'm happy with the results despite this, and i think the uniform jacket will lift him above the crowd.

I also think the needle sniper rifle work well as a status symbol. One can imagine that its a rare and delicate pice of equipment.
This also works well for ingame reasons, because this fellow really wants to keep his distance being a high value target in most scenarios.

Important to understand is like I wrote earlier is that this warband fights like a insurgent force in scenario games, and doesn't intend to take part in tournaments or anything like that.
Their edge besides their high M value is that they will have liberal weapons restrictions. So there might be like 5 heavy weapons in a pack of 12 insurgents. Also vehicles will have twice the amount of crew, like a reserve driver an gunner etc.
And as I've written several times before when SM return fire at these poor bastards, they absolutely drop like flies. So they need all the bombs and all the guns they can get. And of course a decent scenario were they can win without actually breaking the SM force.

How's that car coming out?
