Hi everybody,
It is my pleasure to announce that Meow Meow Miniatures, at www.meowmeowminis.com, is now open for business. We specialize in resin-cast female alternative wargaming miniatures compatible with popular science fiction 28mm games. We are a very small family-run home business working out of our garage workshop as a spouse and spouse team. We both work regular jobs and do casting in our off time to support the hobby community by providing IMHO much-needed female alternative figures.
We currently offer two ranges - both sculpted by the talented Dakkaite, Space Corsair. You can see his Dakka P&M blog here
The two ranges are the Powered Armoured Galactic Chevaliers, and the Flak Armoured Galactic Legions.
Right now the Powered Armoured range has a full compliment of bits to form most of a multipart kit - requiring only bases, weapons, backpacks, and arms from another company.

Some interesting bits - do you have any assembled mini shots and some scale shots, say, against some well known models from, say, one of the large 28mm heroic scale manufacturers?

I really like this, detail on the hat and jacket is great.
However, I'd appreciate a close up of the face and I'm also concerned about the left hand, it seems a little off/large, is it a perspective trick?
I also want to see her from behind.

Not yet - I'm waiting on permission from another third party mini manufacturer to use their bits in an assembled picture - so no official photos yet...
However, here is a post by a Dakkaite whom used casts of Space Corsair's sculpts in his personal army and shows a nice scale shot. Please note that he used another company's shoulder pads, not ours. Our shoulderpads are compatible with most companies' arms, but are smaller and fit the figure very nicely.
miniholic wrote:Just stuck together the first marines and am really glad i got those! Excelent sculpting and casting!
They fit perfectly with the male marines!
Concerning the matter with the shoulderpads, there is only a minimal problem - sizewise - with the figure which comes with the arms already in place.
Otherwise i do not see any probs when you use the normal arms from geedub. I am going to use on all the miniatures FW bolters and especially the FW
backpack (much slimmer, by 2-3mm, than the geedub one).
Can't wait to see the assault and scout ones finished!

$20 international shipping on $6 items?
Nope. I'd love to make up some resin Sisters using those bits, but it'd need to be a truly massive order before that P&P ratio becomes acceptable to me.
Good models though! I hope we see lots of people using them

I like that she's wearing armour, that's a great step forward. However, I am going to echo the excessive shipping cost. $20 for a single model? I'm sorry, what?

Its priority mail international shipping for a small flat rate box. That is the cheapest, smallest box they do - and the only way to do international shipping through paypal to my knowledge - otherwise I'd have to go to the post office in person and fill out the customs forms by hand.
I could ship them First Class Mail internationally for around five dollars, but in the past I've done that and its not only taken about two hours of time to go to the post office and fill out the paperwork, but its also taken up to two months for the package to arrive at its destination. Most people get upset if shipping time becomes two months. Further, shipping first class would mean that I would forfeit any seller protection since I couldn't ship through paypal. As a home business, I just can't afford to risk for example sending out $100 worth of product only to have an unscrupulous person lie about not receiving it and forcing a refund through Paypal Buyer Protection.
If somebody has a cheaper international shipping option than the USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate International Small Box, but that still is eligible for Paypal Seller protection, I'd HAPPILY switch to that method. As in, please let me know so I can change it.

You might want to mention that the method is USPS priority mail on the site, at the moment you just mention the shipping time - that might help.
Personally I don't mind long shipping times on international orders - I've had orders take a month to cross the channel from Germany to the UK and had them take so long from china I almost forgot I ordered them - so if you can manage a cheaper option that takes longer to arrive, people will use it.
(and if people are making $100 orders of $6 and $10 packs, you're doing quite well!)
EDIT: Oh, and don't put "Meow Meow" on the package when sending it to the UK, by the way - it's slang for Mephedrone and will almost certainly result in the package getting seized at customs

@DarkTraveler777: I wonder why you made that specific request?
More female heads would allow me to convert those wonderful Eisenkern into awesome infantry, honestly.
Man, it really sucks. We have, what, 3000 km of border with the US and it costs 4 times more to ship? And honestly, if it costs me 1/4 of the shipping cost for twice the time, I would be totally ok with that. And I assume that if you ship only once a week, you can streamline the customs paperwork. It'll become second nature after a while. Please?

Mostly looks good, although I'm not completely sold on the bare heads, and it's really hard to make out the detail on the officer's breastplate... might be good, might just be a little messy. Painted shots would definitely help there.

Brook, wait until Space Corsair finishes his female Soldier sculpts and Jacqueline has them available. We can talk then about what you want to order and I get them sent to me in Germany. Then I can ship your stuff to you via Bundespost which will be significantly cheaper than USPS International.
That would reduce your shipping cost to something very reasonable.

@Mathiew Raymond: I don't know what you are referring to.
Regarding the high international shipping, if a cheaper solution is not able to be found perhaps some US-based Dakka members would be willing to work as middlemen for our non-US brethren.
I know I would be willing to tack on some additional items when/if I make another order.

Solid product but question for you, since you are new to this how do you expect people to take you seriously if you say it's to much time to go to the post office over their order. I have had days where i go their to ship hundreds of orders and days where its only one. Their are ways around paypal though just set up a account with USPS.com and it will save you the trouble.

Bare resin shots would be fine if they were a bit better quality photos. Having a nice gradiant background or pure white with some high-detail, close up macro shots would be awesome. If you do put up paintd examples, pay a quality comission painter to do it right. No paintjobs are better than poor or even mediocre paintjobs on webstores. Failing that a thin wash to bring out the details works great.

Wow, lots of comments - I'm going to try and reply to everyone... but first I wanted to say that I updated the pictures of the Galactic Legions Officer and the Galactic Chevaliers heads. Also, you may now click on them for the full original 6 megapixel image. It is about four megabytes, so don't click them if your internet is slow.
Also, here is a picture of a Galactic Chevalier assembled with some Anvil Industry parts I had had for a personal project:
I don't yet own an Anvil Industries backpack and don't have permission to use any other companies' backpack bits in photography - so hopefully you can forgive the absence of that bit.
A bigger resolution picture is available on the website.
BTW, at such high resolutions for all these pictures I posted for those that asked for them, the magnifier on the camera makes things visible on the mini that I cannot see with my naked eye, so please forgive me for my not having perfectly cleaned every mold line. I did not have time tonight to wet sand all the bits prior to assembly.
Ketara wrote:I'm curious as to whether any of your torsos fit on standard cadian legs?
Not without conversion work. However, the Recon torso in the Galactic Chevaliers range will fit the plastic legs from most 'burly military sci-fi vietnam' type 28mm kits.
Mathieu Raymond wrote:If that shipping gets resolved... and you cast some female heads on tabs or sprues... then I am so all over this. I'll be checking in on you from time to time, fo sho.
I've seen the heads. If there was more variety, I would definitely spring for them.
Have you thought doing bubble envelopes for smaller packages?
There are currently five variants of head - each head in the five provided in the pack is different. This is more variety than most kits I have seen, but I will be on the look out for additional head sculpts in the future. Unfortunately, I don't sculpt myself - so I have to find sculptors willing to let me cast their work in return for a percentage of sales. As soon as I find a sculptor to do more heads, I'll jump on the opportunity since I personally am also a huge fan of variety in heads.
Bubblewrap envelopes sometimes can have bits - especially legs - break, however the main reason I don't ship First Class International (IE: The cheapest and slowest way possible) is because doing so renders me unable to prove that a customer received their items. Asking me to do that as part of a Paypal store is essentially asking me to give up all forms of seller protection (IE: all it takes is the click of a button, a 45 day wait, and a lack of scruples for someone to get both the product and a full refund). I know that most people wouldn't do that, but right now I have no capitol or savings to rely on to absorb that risk - lack of capitol is why I cast things to order rather than keep a stock handy. I sincerely wish that I could be like other, more financially blessed sellers and keep stock handy while also assuming the risk of loss due to lack of seller protection, but right now I can't afford it. In a few to six months maybe I can have a buffer of some sort built up, but right this minute it isn't really an option.
Dentry wrote:Love the product but the website - which admittedly is in it's infancy and does the job it's meant to do - could use some work.

I'm very glad you like the product. I'm sorry the website is admittedly low grade, but it was the best my wife and I could do ourselves. We'd love to have a better web site, but we have no capitol to invest in it right now - so unless a web developer wants to do a site in return for product (if you're a web developer reading this and like that idea, for sure contact me), I'm afraid it will have to wait until we are established and have a bit of capitol.
DarkTraveler777 wrote:I hope you expand your Galactic Legions range to include female legs and arms. And (pipe dream, here) but some female heads in pith helmets would be unbelievable!
Space Corsair is currently working on the Galactic Legions range torsos and legs. I don't know about arms, but I believe IIRC he had mentioned that he might do some short sleeve arms to go with them. Galactic Legions and Galactic Chevaliers are mostly Space Corsair's ranges, so upcoming product information can most readily be found in his blog here on dakka I linked to in the Original Post. Pith helmet heads are something I personally want as well, and I have inquired with a certain madman in a pith helmet about a possible commission - but I don't have the capitol for it yet... and he was too busy at the time anyway.
Mathieu Raymond wrote:Man, it really sucks. We have, what, 3000 km of border with the US and it costs 4 times more to ship? I agree, I personally think that what the USPS (and the Canadian postal service for that matter... I've had to pay high international shipping from Canada to the US on EBay numerous times) shipping to Canada is really high. Unfortunately, they charge what they charge. The problem isn't so much the time investment as it is the lack of seller protection and the fact that the post office's hours of operation conflict with my work schedule (as well as my wife's). I can use paypal to ship Priority International mail, print the forms, tape the printed postage to the box, and drop it in any outgoing mailbox, shipping First Class mail requires me to go to the post office in person to sign paperwork and have the parcel weighed. Neither my wife or I get lunch breaks at our work (We both work in the emergency services field, so we have to eat on the job... if we happen to have time), so we can't go to the post office while at work. We work all weekdays and every other saturday in addition... so the bottom line is that shipping First Class mail means I can only ship orders out once every other week. Shipping Priority International, I can ship them the morning after the night I cast them by just putting the parcel in my home's mailbox and putting the flag up on my way out the door to go to work.
I don't have the capitol yet to pay a professional to paint any bits or minis, and I'm not much more capable than doing the 'Dip' method myself, so painted pictures will have to wait until we've made enough sales to after expenses pay a commission artist.
Empchild wrote:pgmason wrote:I imagine that the issue is that they both work and this is a second job for them, as mentioned in the OP. It may not be possible for them to reliably get to the post office during opening hours.

I'm sorry, but perhaps you have had an idea I haven't had? Could you please elaborate for me a few of the tons of ways in which I can get around the work schedule conflict? I would be extremely grateful. If it works without major flaw, I can even see about getting you a discount code as a thank you. I am sincerely sorry that you believe only offering Priority Mail at the cost of what the packing materials and postage cost me is bad customer service. It had never occurred to me that that was the case. I will do my best to give a cheaper option.
Whew... ok... caught up.
So, my wife had an idea that I thought I would share with all of you whom want cheaper international shipping. I had initially thought that giving this option would sound shady, but if it is popular demand then I will gladly do it. Anyone whom would prefer slow, cheaper shipping, doesn't mind waiting perhaps several months for their product, and is willing to trust me enough to forgo buyer protection, may make a purchase without going through the cart system by e-mailing me with a list of what they want, waiting for me to confirm the total and give them my paypal e-mail addy, and then sending money via paypal to my paypal e-mail address as a Personal -> Payment Owed transaction (IE: not as a purchase of goods). In that case, international shipping would only be $5 to anywhere in the world, would be shipped in a bubble wrap envelope, and would not be shipped until the first saturday I have off work following the date I complete the casting. That is the best I can do for you all until I am more established and able to assume more risk. If you don't feel comfortable making a purchase outside of the cart system and then waiting perhaps several months, I can't at this time offer cheap international shipping. I'm sorry if that's not good enough, but for the time being its the best I can do for you all. At some point in the future I'll try to add a cheap international shipping option to the shopping cart system - but that will be only after we are more established and more able to assume risk.

Nice sculpts. Have you thought about selling the parts in leg/torso/head sets at a slight discount, in the same way that Anvil Industries does?
