My ex did not make fun of my gaming, and neither does my current girlfriend. I respect their choices as they respect (or respected) mine.

If your wife makes fun of your hobby, you should either divorce her or sleep with her sister to teach her a lesson.

My girlfriend helps me paint my models, so I have no complaints

Then how could women, who splashes paint in there faces each day be making fun of anyone who paints and play with miniatures?

Yeah I'm pretty much screwed. My girl plays too so we spend double on WH40k. It's not like we need to eat or anything....>.>()

Seriously though, I don't think there are any hobbies that we have that we would make fun of each other for as most of the time we share the hobby. Although she will sometimes laugh at me when I buy a new airsoft gun.( don't hate, it's easier than owning real guns and can be JUST as fun if done right.)

Someone once told me this about Porsche Panameras:
"There are two Panamera's in my hood. Visual pepper spray. When Jesus was on the cross and cried out "Father, why have you forsaken me?" it wasn't because of the whole crucifixion, it was because he foresaw the design of the Porsche Panamera."
You learn something new everyday.

And if she has no sister?

It appears that most of the wives or girlfriends have some reservation when it comes to 40k. You (and she) has to live with it.

My wife may not understand my interest in the hobby but she does not make fun of me for it and she does support it, as every time we go into a GW store she ends up making sure I pick up an item or two.

She has also surprised me with the occasional Forgeworld gift, and proabably knows more about Orks and Space Marines than she would ever care to.

We will be married 30 years in October and she is probably happy I have this hobby rather than some others.

In fact, its a long-term hobby, and it keeps you away from some others (I'm thinking here of worse ones).

Oha, maybe she will dislike it even more.

Everyone's wife/partner should make fun of them. This hobby is hella geeky.

My girlfriend and I refer to my trips to the store to play 40k as "going nerding".

There's a joke here about penis size, but I'm too refined to make it.

My girlfriend is not really against the hobby. She has painted a couple of miniatures herself too. She doesn't mind when I convert and paint (or play) but she does not like the cost or the fact that I want to get more and more of the plastic toy soldiers and she does not like it when I cover all possible tables with the models

I shall rule the world someday utilizing my cuteness. And I already have one minion to help me do it!

Of course it makes sense. When there are a bunch of BDSM clowns doing Olympic gymnast routines throughout your unit, while also cutting off heads, you tend to get a bit distracted.

Also when I go to my gaming club she refers to it as 'geek club'

This is the same as my wife. She does not dislike the hobby... but the prices of the models and the need to buy them to flesh out an army is the irritating part.

I was just discussing the new Chaos army items (Codex, minis.. etc) and her first response was.. "That's disgusting!!"

I play 40K with my 9y/o son and it is great father/son time... I just don't think that I will buying much more.

My wife supports my hobby. She got me Dark Vengeance for my birthday (even found me a venue to play at). She knows I am a super dork... We have had worse arguments about WOW and Eve online in the past (dont play either anymore, my decision). She plays TF2 with me now every night, once we have put our kid to sleep.

There are a lot worse things a husband could have for a hobby ie (bars, strip clubs), some women are never happy though and see ANYTHING that you pour your attention into as a challenge to their authorita! My wife did used to complain about how much I read... (game of thrones series is super long winded). I just said "Hey! its not my fault you dont read books!" that shut her up pretty quick. We've been together for 11 years and married for 3. Fully embrace your dorkdom, if your wife doesnt like it, its not meant to be! She should love you as you are, not for what she thinks you should do with your time.

I think the key is, to not IGNORE your wife / gf. Trust me, they count every minute you spend hobbying/gaming. You need to pre-emptively strike. Flowers and pressies work wonders. I call it Wife Aggro Tanking. Flowers reduce wife aggro by 50 points. One hour of gaming is causes 4 points of aggro. Cook her dinner one night and give her a foot rub. The next day when you are painting up your little men and she complains just say "ok, no foot rub tonight!" works wonders.

I don't have a wife, a husband, a girlfriend, or a boyfriend.

The closest thing I have to any of those is very interested in WH40k himself. He even bought the Black Reach set, but hasn't done much with it yet - mainly because his brother lost his only paintbrush, and he hasn't gotten a replacement yet.
