Simple tactic really. Take a DE or GK list, ally the other. Take both Coteaz and Vect. Go first.
I quite like this tactic in a list with 3 Voidravens, a Stormraven and assault units (Incubi and Wracks in Venoms and Raiders, DCA in Stormraven).
Any ideas on how to best abuse this combination?

The irony is that flyer heavy lists usually want to go second not first, so this strikes me as a strange combo for this build. Going first against another flier army means all your stuff flies on and gets shot up before you get a chance to respond. In general going second seems to be more powerful now due to the objective based nature of the rulebook missions and the nerfing of off board threats (i.e no assault from Outflank).
If you are investing points into going first then you want to back it up with a large amount of firepower which can fire from turn 1, not turn 2. This means plenty of 36-48" range weapons which GK's don't actually do that well. Once you grab 3 Riflemen you are relying on Razorbacks and less optimal stuff like like Jokers, Servitors and Conversion Beamers.

How about taking snooty DE instead. Range 36 is very much their friend.

Firing on turn 2 is still fine - if you shoot them off the table they lose. So you have one turn of shooting, then a turn of flyers shooting to try and wipe off what they have on the table.

massed MSU firepower would be the way to abuse that tag team.
since you are almost always going first, you will have the first chance to deal damage to the other player. You best bet would be to deliver a super strong "Alpha Strike" to the enemy player, before they have the chance to deal much damage back. Therefore, you can load up on non-durable but high damage shooting units.

the good news
or perhaps bad news
is that you are not going first, you are stealing the initive so you set up second but go first.

Or run the baron, vect and coteaz all in one...if you dont go first, it was simply not your day.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Or don't bother. With the exception of First Blood, going second is usually an advantage in the new edition, be that getting the drop on enemy flyers, or because you get the last say on objectives (5 out of 6 missions). Going first usually doesn't help all that much unless you've got one hell of an alpha strike.
