Would 87 missile launchers be too much for most armies to handle?

No. I usually like to include at least 93 missile launchers in all my armies so that if my opponent gets first turn I can still fire at least 5 which probably won;t have been blasted off the table.

I have to say if you play deathwing you soon realise that some armies are virtually unaffected by missile launcher fire power.
BT can bring about 40 missile shots in 2000 points.
I fear he is referring to hunter seeker missiles.

Haven't you seen the new Codex: Ultraultramarines? Any marine may replace her pistol with a missile launcher which counts as a power ultrafist in close combat. So if anything I think the 87 missile launcher army is a very fluffy and balanced representation of the battle where a single squad of ultraultramarines stood their ground against an entire traitor legion and killed them all with precise missile shots until they ran out of missiles then carved the ultraultramarines chapter symbol into the demon primarch's face with their ultrafists.

Probably 4000+ point apoc games. Double foc long fangs is only 30 so it should be easy to squeeze in 87 to the 4k/5k range.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Maybe it's guard, with max guardsmen squads and max heavy teams, and each squad, team, and command squad has one.
I don't know how many points that would be, but I think it's possible to get 92.

I used the land speeders as 1 speeder with typhoon is cheaper than 2 scout units.

3 elite terminators with 2 cyclons each
2 honor guard terminators with 2 cyclons each
6-9 cylcon armed land speeders.
2-4x5 man mini max las/plas
that is basic BT army .
SW can do double FoC LF with double FoC speeders, but then they run only 2x5 GH as troops.

Responding purely to follow the result of the thread, the only thing I can to say is that it depends on the points limit. 87 missile launchers wouldn't stand up to a 10000 point army of grots.
So the question is, what point level are you playing, and whats your army list?

I remember when a squad of 5 chaos marine veterans could field two missile launchers each.
So you could have 2 lords with 2 veteran squad retinues, 3 elite veteran squads, and 6 troops veteran squads. Then 3 heavy support missile havoc squads. 31 in a force org chart. I still have a whole case full of missile launcher dudes that I haven't been able to field for two editions.

This. PCS 1 ML 5x Infantry Squad 5 ML (1 per squad) 5x Heavy Weapon Squad 15 (3 per squad) Total 21 ML 6 Platoons per Army=126 Missile Launchers I mean it is point heavy, but getting 96 should be slightly easier.

It entirely depends on the point level.
At 2k, yeah. that would be alot of missile launchers, except any terminator force would just laugh at you.
At 5k, not so much.

for S&G i wanted to see if it was posible...here is the best i got.
option A constsiat shots per turn
1x captain/chaplin/lib/MoF with only free upgrades. no ml
2x scouts with ml 2 shots
3x dev 15 shots
3x LS with missels 6 shots
10 points shy of 100o so double acourding to mister poster
total MLs 46
1x captain/chaplin/lib/MoF with only free upgrades. no ml
3x scouts with ml 3 shots
with riho and HK missle 3
3x dev 15 shots
total shots 42
conclusion with the cheepest units it is imposible to get that many MLs in a 2K point game
So since your results can not be repeated your hypothises is flawed. so provied prove please

You can get there at 2000 points if Rokkits count as Missile Launchers:
HQ: 2 Big Meks 70
EL: 6 squads of 15 Tankbustas 1350
TR: 4 squads of 10 Boyz 240
Total: 1660
Pretty awful, and only has the firepower of 45 Space Marine Missile Launchers, but kind of has 90 Missile Launchers in it, with room for more.

Current Record: 5 Wins, 6 Draws, 3 Losses 2000 points

IG can't get missile launchers cheaper than 30 points each (3 for 90 in heavy weapon squads)
Marines pay at least 28 points a shot (5 in long fangs for 140)
Eldar pay 35 points a shot (2 on a 70 point warwalker)
So even if you toss force org out the window, and just field lowest points per shots, you're looking at:
IG: 2610 points
Marines: 2436 points
Eldar: 3045 points.
So 87 is not a good idea. 55 plasma guns is a great idea though.

As an answer to the OP, it depends how many units you have the missle launchers in. I've seen a ton of ML spam and the basic problem is they only shoot at 3 units a turn. My Nid horde list would pretty much laugh off 80 ML.
