Softcover is fine for me. If it starts falling apart, I'll take it to one of those copy places where they can cut and spiral bind it for me.

I like the quality of FFG-style hardbacks, but something tells me that GW's are not going to be at that standard of craftsmanship.

Besides, a hardcover is just that much more weight when you are packing your army to go somewhere. I don't own an Ipad, so I don't have the option of buying a copy for my ipad to take on the road. They need to release a Nook or Kindle version

Hardcover and color is GW's way to squeeze more money out of you for an already overpriced product. Really the original codex's should not have been any more then $10-$14, while these new ones shouldn't be anymore then $25

Too bad, no soft cover, that's disappointing.

The new models were surely designed for ''fluffy'' cineastic moments: Helldrake and Forgefiend/Maulerfiend (and to squeeze out more money of us).

It's not even the codex that gets my goat... its the battleforce. But that topic threatens to derail the thread so I won't go into it...

So what is the 50 dollar codex then? I thought that was softcover, and the collectors' edition was the hardcover?

I dont get the battle force either . I mean it should be a good way for people to start a new army . That doesnt even have to mean a good army . But puting in models that remember 4th ed , why did they do that ? bikes that no one will use , possessed that no one will use [unless for conversions] and 10 old csm . I hope that they make a new one in a year or two. .

Considering we've only seen a smattering of the new rules, how do we know that the battleforce will be useless? And I don't remember this kind of wailing and gnashing of teeth when Fantasy army books were coming out in full color hardback.

And don't buy off of online discounters, especially if you have a local game store. Even more if that local store is where you play. Nothing is more frustrating to a store owner than to see people coming in to play with hundreds of dollars of someone else's profits. The complaints threads over Wayland and the others proves they aren't the awesomeness everyone touts.

If you want something, and can't afford it, save up. If you want it bad enough, a couple of Starbucks coffees (or whatever) can wait.

because possessed are old models as are bikes , there are no new HQs or unit attachments to make them better ?
Possessed are hth units in a shoty edition and they have to fight against chosen [probably same cost] , raptors/talons[new models , new rules , faster ] and zerkers[troops with a khorn lord] . ah and technicly the maulers they are hth too.

it is the same in the hvy slot . there is the 2 fiends, defilers, oblits and all the tanks . LR will still make a rush army , but everything else will come down to what is the most optimal .And if havocks get skyfire rockets it is going to be RL havocks in every slot , under 2k pts.

You can report them to a mod using the yellow triangle, but it is probably best just to delete the post content rather than bothering the mods.

It's not the fact that it's fermented that's the problem, it's that it's caught in the Baltic, which despite all improvements to the environment the last decade still looks as if it's dedicated to Nurgle. Smoking is also way more dangerous than eating fermented herring.

That said, fermented herring tastes like gak and anyone who likes it should be shunned from society IMO.

Some people have a tough way of handling stuff...I still have my Necron 3rd codex and it's in almost perfect shape. The first page is slightly bent, but that's it. No scratches, no cuts, nothing.

So, americans are complaining that $50 is too much for a codex... We australians pay $55 for the current soft cover codex's, and $83 for the new one. Your lives must be so difficult...

Even the new battleforce is $65 more expensive here...

As someone said, for something that you're going to use for years if you're a codex player, even $83 is nothing. 4 years of use is $20 a year.

Sometimes there is just bad bindings. First time I opened up the big 3rd edition rule book, half the pages fell out.

Hard cover books, things are less likely to go wrong.

Soft cover is good enough for me.

I own all codexes and NONE of them have loose pages or anything.
I think this is a case of the codexes printed in the US are shoddy quality or the players mistreating their books.

Yes, friend. Surprise, surprise! If you insist on opening your codex and press it so much that it stays open on the table next to you....you will ruin your codex.
This isn't a case of bad quality. It is a case of idiocy on the end users part.

I will not be getting the over-prized hard-cover codexes. Not in any way that profits GW anyway.

try to start the game then as a non 25+year old then . core book , the codex +tax and your looking at 150$ before even buying any models/paints etc. and with entry games being pushed higher and higher up on points , the new people become fewer then in the 5th . With 1500 being the smallest games and nids cant even start to play properly without the second FoC. I see this as a problem and a lot of people dont play more then a year or two , so telling them that the book is X per 5 years isnt much of a help .

Agreed. 50$ is a half of Warma starter set FFS! All the rules you need, the dice, the ruler and some miniatures. And it's not even the cheapest out there.

Right now here, the chaos codex will be twice the price plus a little bit than the d&d books for little less than half the pages. Nearly four times the price of one with the same page count :(
All hardback and full color so if a codex comes out I realy want :0 I honestly don't think I would go for it.

Well, GW will dictate the policy to release hard-cover/ full-colour codices if we want it or not. I'd be satisfied with a soft-cover/black-white codex as it has always been.

I understand hardcover dex . Am not against it . there always are people who want limited edition sets . They are cool , am not saying that they arent . But the limited edition format [high cost/hardcover] becomes the normal format , then the starting point gets pushed back a lot .
Lets say someone starts with a group of friends .He picks chaos because its new and cool [taste is a personal thing].
Most wont start with a 2k pts double FoC army with possible different combination of units , because it costs too much . Probably everywhere , not just here. Am assuming he is not of the ozz/kiwi kind , because GW hates them like it hates 1ksons.
So he goes for 1k pts starter points[unbalanced , not something that should or will be played in 6th] .
codex 50$ . battle force 120$ . vengance to get models and rulebook 100$ .
what does he have now 10 csm 20 cultists 5 possessed 5 chosen 1 sword lord 1 rhino 1 dread 3 bikers. 270$ and he doesnt even have a 1k pts army . worse he has 1 good unit[csm] and the rest is rather bad. he has the cool possesed[which he will never use as possesed. techicly the maul dude is an instant dark apostol] and that is it . He still has to buy 2 box of termis 2-3 box of marines and somehow get his hands on 12 launchers .before he can start to paint and learn how to play the whole thing .

Now I hate PP , they showed the middle finger to eastern europe [no idea how it looks in the rest of europe] , but their starter sets are cheaper[even if they are totaly impossible to get here] . 300$+ as an entry point of a game start to hit the mark when a young dude spends 100-200 $ more and gets a consol or PC .

I am realy happy that I started my IG 4 years ago . I wouldnt be playing the game , if I had to buy the codex and army now.

I'd prefer a paperback option, but I'm happy about the purty color pictures in the hardback. I field CSM and am getting the new codex at my FLGS if only to support them because I'm sure as heck not buying any of the new models. Sorry, FLGS.
