Oh, So you mean, that like, I get to pay 50 dollars for this new codex, and its just going to rehash the same fluff thats in my 4th edition codex? Oh boy, I hope they talk about how Horus totally owned Sanguinus!
I think this sorta touches on something important, at least to me. I think paying a premium for the books would be a little easier if it advanced the plot, instead of being the same story AGAIN and AGAIN. Oh wait, there's a new character from some corner of the galaxy that suddenly got plot armor! Yawn.

This entire edition and this new chaos codex are blantant money grabs by GW. I'm not usually one to complain about a company trying to make money but...
Take a look at these prices. $50us for a codex, $70+us for a new flyer (which looks like half a model) $66us for a big monster.
That's almost $200us for 2 models and a book. There are more than enough suckers out there who "have" to buy enough to fill every FoC/ continue their collection/ ect.
To me that's absurd. I'm seriously, for the first time ever, actually thinking about leaving GW for another game system or something. I know that's just a typical responce to these kind of things.
I'm not trying to sound like I'm whining but no matter how you try to say something in text it just seems monotone and arrogant.
My problem is that I fear the future. Rumors have it that Orks will be getting a bunch of new things late next year (Cybork Nobz, terrain, Buggies). If that's true I can't wait...
Or do I really even want to? They'll be a typical annual price hike before then, bringing my $25us Nob box up to something like $33us.
The fact that these newer kits will have upgradable Nobz means GW will make them "pricey-er" (Death Company compared to Assault Squad) so they end up being around $35us - $45us.
I wouldn't doubt GW is going to screw us over with a kit that requires each box to have one model built as Painboy (Like the Mek in each box of Lootas/Burnas).
I could be completely wrong. Either way I think I'm kinda getting off topic so I'll stop here.
Agreed. I'm not trying to sound like a whiny chicken little either. I still haven't moved on to sixth edition yet. And have no need to buy it until I feel like it's worth it.
What I think is a let down is that I wanted to start a Chaos army and was waiting for the new models.
Firstly, I think that they are awful for the price. I mean look at the DV stuff, repeated heads in a batch of ten models GW, for 100$. really? My AOBR Orks look nice and unique or more unique.
But the dragon looks like bad anime. I guess it knocks other fliers out of the sky simply by the other pilots crashing in fits of laughter.
I have NO problem paying prices for quality items and books.
But here's the thing, I don't pay $50+ dollars for IT books why would I pay that for 100+ page gaming book? I think I top out at $35 being the highest I'll go for that, even then , I'll wait.
I also fully understand a company having to make money and there is inflation, but I don't see these models as being worth it. Especially when I pay a third or fourth of the price for some of my SM and ork boxes.
It just makes it really hard to collect a new army.

So people whine when they re-hash well-established fuff and they whine when someone changes the fluff... makes sense...

Wow, really? Everyone in our club owns legal copies of their primary and usually secondary forces. No one has ever pulled out a digital copy and no one is allowed to field an army without said 'dex in front if them. But if someone wants to try out a new army or run allies, you think there's something wrong with sharing a book? And you then think having club copies of popular codices is on par with piracy? Silly man.

Silly man. I do not think that there's anything wrong with sharing a book, I fail to see the difference between sharing it with ten or so friends and sharing it with hundreds of people. Either way the IP is being used without payment. Let's not derail this thread though. I'd also like to point out that the idea of paying $50 for a book, then models on top of that to start and army is going to be incredibly off-putting to new players. This is why GWs sales are decreasing, the second-hand market is increasing because it's better value for money. The more they tighten their grip, the more people will slip through their fingers.

One physical copy = 1 physical copy.
1 digital copy = infinite digital copies.
Anyway, don't discuss piracy here. Everyone knows about it, everyone knows GW provokes it, everyone knows it's still wrong, everyone knows it doesn't belong on Dakka*

I think I'll go back to the original comment about this: One is illegal and one is not. Dakka does not allow the promotion of illegal acts.
The day sharing books becomes illegal, or sharing armies, or loaning dice becomes illegal I am sure that Dakka will clamp down on anyone suggesting doing such things.

Since I have an army I'm happy with right now and don't plan on buying any new models (1 - because I'm already as heavily invested as I care to be, and 2 - I don't care for the looks of the new models), I'm buying the new codex to support my FLGS.

I think it all goes to what something should be worth. I mean, once again I have paid over $50 for a book, but those were text books. This is a damned game. A game. A hobby. I make a decent living and I am not going to spend that much on a rule book. I mean, for crying out loud, a titan kit is less than $100.
Yeah that's right a Stompa is 26 dollars more than a tiny cartoon dragon, or 50 more than the new chaos rulebook.
I look at other companies giving away rule sets, or really nice sci-fi miniatures 80 for $99 and I think, why would I continue to pay into this.
Now that is really sad to say since I love the Universe and have been involved in this hobby/game for over twenty years. But I can't justify paying these new prices. I can wait for models that I like to come down and find them online, but these new chaos models are just terrible.
