Daemons are getting an update.
From what I understand, they're going to be WD updates and then digital releases that consolidate it all into one e-file.
There's a potential that maulerfiends and forgefiends are going to see a fantasy adaptation version.
Tau and Eldar are coming early next year.
Unit profiles are being finalized.
The Tau model is looking more and more like it will utilize and potentially modify the allies feature.
Both races have unique fortifications.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm gonna go all salt on this one. Daemons getting another WD update right after their last one?

Will it potentially sell more models?
Will it take a minimum of effort?
Thats a yes to both and therefore I'd call it plausible.

Reasonable enough assumption, but what are the new units that would be released? Aren't Daemons pretty filled out with the most recent releases?
Me, I'm pretty excited about the new WoC stuff. We've heard the word that they're coming around Nov. for a while, so I'm hoping this is true.

WoC ( WD only), Daemons, Tau and Eldar getting Updates is what Hastings predicted for some time (with Dark Angels before Daemons). No need for salt for these. Tau tidbit is discussed in detail in the Tau thread.
Leaves us with Daemons being a possible WD update, Mauler Fiends for Fantasy (who would doubt that after making Soul Grinders a Fantasy Unit) and Eldar terrain (also practically confirmed by Jes Goodwin).
Anyway, here what Stickmonkey predicts:
If Hastings is right, and Harry is accurate, which those guys normally are, then we have 3 wfb army releases, a LOTR release or two, a wfb wave release, and 2 40k codexes that are all pretty much what I've heard...ALL before Tau or Eldar. That's 8 months and eight things pretty solidly rumored ahead of tau. My sources tell me early next year, I assume that's the first half of the year. But logic tells me not with the stack of items ahead of tau. So that's why I say q2/3. I figure the lot of you are reasonably smart and can deduce the same from all the other rumors out there, so I didn't feel a need to explain it in detail.
But I will put my stick in the sand.
Nov - rumored WoC model wave (Harry, somewhat confirmed by Hastings)
Nov/Dec - DA. ( me, Hastings, others, pretty much looks like it will be a rare codex release in Dec to me despite historical precedent, however if WoC is only a wave release maybe, just maybe they will be in Nov.)
Dec - Hobbit (LOTR, pretty much a shoe in based on the shareholders meeting)
Dec - bloodbowl ( I don't have anything on this, but there has been a lot of speculation and hinting of something else special and signs point to a BB set. My take - I think this will be GDUK2013 surprise release and we won't see it this year)
Jan - Daemons ( me, Harry somewhat, Hastings, all have Jan as a double dipping of wfb and 40k daemons following up on the August wd update)
Feb - WoC wfb (I think Harry, others, full army book for WoC)
Mar - LOTR ( I don't follow the LOTR dev much, but things I have heard lead me to believe there is a big release slotted either here or April)
April - 40k supplemental wave ( this is where the chatter I hear has a bunch of wave releases for 40k, could be the delayed 2nd wave of flyers, or possibly the ork wave I've heard of...)
May - wfb High Elves (Harry I think, others)
June - assuming I'm close with my above. Then the first slot Tau could occupy is June. I have nothing penciled in here.
July - 40k expansion book (allies? Terrain?) and supporting models (me. This should firm up in the spring for sure, but my info all points to a book expansion for 40k in July)
August on - your guess is as good as mine, but I expect a big box release with GDUK which I have pencilled in as Blood bowl as mentioned above. August is likely a fantasy release based on my info, could be Dwarves or more Men. And then my info points to another marine dex before year end and eldar...but logic seems to dictate two codexes between September and year end is unlikely...but so it w this year and most rumormongers are expecting a second codex before year end. So there you have it. That's pretty much the logic I have behind the release schedule. Feel free to pick it apart, it just my best guesses based on how and who I have heard things from.

I rarely take the time to read other blogs about gaming, but in his last week wrap-up post, faeit mentions the dire need to fix the Hydra. Why? It was very powerful in 5th ed, it has been brought in line with its price with the addition of the skyfire rule, and my meta has not been crawling with flyers but they are going to come. Wrong thread to ask this, I guess?

One possible scenario:
November:
1st week Dark Angels Codex
3rd week: WoC wave
December:
1st week ? (Flyers, Bloodbowl? no idea)
3rd week (15th): The Hobbit (2 days after movie release).

That is interesting. So there is potential for DA to arrive within the next month.
This actually makes more sense to me, since GW have typically stayed away from Codex/Army releases in December, favoring terrain and figure cases and other gift type items.

Games Workshop: Ruining Chaos Space Marines since 2007
First they raised prices on the Eldar, and I did not speak out because I did not play Eldar.
Then, they raised prices on the Orks, and I did not speak out because I did not play Orks.
Then, they raised prices on the Nids, and I did not speak out because I did not play Nids.
Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me. |

And what does the boxart say?! Are the Daemon Engines listed as "Chaos Space Marine", or are they simply "Chaos"?
I think it's pretty clear that the new engine are solely for CSM's, since every single Daemons box very clearly says "Chaos Daemons". GW is hardly likely to go back to that whole awful 'scavenger hunt' set-up in their stores with bitz and pieces of the Daemon range scattered about multiple army ranges...

Because a hulking walker with plasma cannons would work so well in Fantasy. Before your knee jerks firmly off your leg, you should think about what you're saying first.

Also, I apologize if the answer to my question has been stated somewhere but... is there any confirmation as to who is writing the DA Codex?

Another mini-update for Daemons would be strange. And I thought Hastings said CD/DoC would be full army book/codex releases. But I guess anything is possible in this crazy, hyperadvanced digital age.

Actually I think a White Dwarf based "mini" update fot daemons would be totally appropriate. For years people have been down talking WD. A mini update would be the type of material I'd expect if they want to keep WD relevant.

While WD has gone down hill since they took out the rules, I agree with their basic principle of why they took them out in the first place: you shouldn't have to buy White Dwarf just to be able to play an army. I liked the little optional rules like Kroot Mercenaries, but I disagree with them doing things like the SoB update and the Storm Talon/Ork Bomma issue. In other words, chalk me up as one of those that hopes they don't start doing more mini-updates in WD.
