Subject: Mierce Miniatures - News & Rumors Thread - METAL AGE (Metal Infantry Miniatures) on Pg. 181!
Good to hear you're on the mend, great to hear about the metal!
Also nice to have some advance notice, I can swing a bit of cash at it now.
One question, if I can catch you before bed, any idea what the fulfilment time will be, as I assume there isn't any sculpting to be done?

Yes, I had a double hernia op recently (small umbilical and a large-ish inguinal hernia).
The procedure was set for Aug/Sept but I got 5 days notice that the op would be in June! I was happy though as I was in a fair amount of pain/discomfort at times (I've had the small one for 12 years and the large one for 2 so I was ready!) and my wife had booked a trip to Paris for our anniversary in Aug so that had been looking doubtful if the op was around that time.
Anyway, the procedure went well (though all sorts of un-imaginables changed colour, swelled up and became very painful for a while!) and I'm now back at work. I had two weeks off to recover from the surgery (it hurts when I sneeze too, Azrael and hayfever doesn't help lol!) and I need to take it easy for a few weeks so I'm not a full speed yet but getting there - and I'm getting the lads to do the heavy lifting whilst I concentrate on the slicing!
Anyways there you go - there's been a delay which I apologise for (these are the first non-vacation days off I've had working for Mierce...ever!) but I'll be caning the overtime once I'm fully healed and I'll catch up best I can. I did try to come back early, but boy was that a mistake!
In the meantime hmmm shiny metal! I do recall planning something metal before I went away......all that morphine I was on for a while though...I forget! :0P
Nah, the Metal Age KS is indeed to give people the option of our luvverly infantry (inc some characters) minis in metal. It will allow us to bring the entry level cost down as well. Starter sets for kindreds with a good deal for all, that sort of thing.
And of course we will still cast our minis in resin for those that prefer it! But the aim of this KS is to get those people that have been a little hesitant because of the higher cost of resin to dip their toes in. And even resin junkies probably don't own as many Darklands infantry as they'd like........ Some monstrous infantry too will be produced in metal (hopefully!) - though there comes a point where resin makes more sense with those guys - Sronax for example, are probably a no go in metal!
We'll be outsourcing the metal casting so me and the resin casters can crack on with the other stuff. It won't slow us down on current wave fulfillment either so kills two (well a few really!) birds with one stone.
Anyways bed awaits! I don't come on forums much (I was reading the AoS rumours!) so see you on the KS page!
Tim
P.S I wanted to call it Metallica or Heavy Metal but got overuled. Bah! :0P
Thank you very much for the update, and all the best in your recovery!
I like the sound of where this is headed and if it is mostly converting sculpts to metal rather than adding more I will definitely consider backing

...and if you guys don't end up making some sort of Krokodar hand to hand brawler, I think I'm going to have to get a spare and just do it myself. The results will be knowhere near as awesome as if you guys do it though!
It would be perfect for the Banebeasts line.... hint hint, nudge nudge.
Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
What do you think about converting Frenzied Srok, highlord? I'm betting the hands will be separate bits attached to the weapons. Since he has "cuffs" on his arms, you could just glue on different hands, if you could find a suitable mini to steal then from. Thoughts?
And thanks for the answers, Mierce! I wasn't clear if the price you mention is what we'll see in the campaign here (sounds lower than before, which would be great - the savrar were £10 per mini at the KS price previously and more at retail). Cheaper metal small models would be extremely tempting.

Crikey, £2 a mini is almost begging to start another kindred. I've always fancied a beast man army (looking for alternatives to GW was how I found Mierce to begin with). This might be the time.

I really like the crocs and savrar from the Khthones, but couldn't justify the investment when my Fomoroaic are still in bits.
This is probably gonna break my resistance, if the metal goes as big as the crocs at least (they're 60mm or less aren't they?)

Savrar would be rad. They have a chunk of the unit already don't they?
You could probably snip the weapons off Srok and sculpt some brass knuckles on him easily to hide the handles in his claws.

20 pounds for a 10 man infantry unit? This thing is going to explode! I cannot wait!
I picked up 10 starter hosts in New Kindreds over the course of the pledge manager, but am definitely in for some more Byzanti, Gabrax and Atalantes!
Well, they won't be that unless inside of a Starter Host:
Mierce Miniatures wrote:@Azreal - you'd be looking at October for fulfilment... @Henry - the infantry within the starter hosts work out at around £2 a miniature on the project, £3 if you purchase them outside of a starter host...
So you'll be spending more than that £20 to get those 10 infantry.
If you're like me you're looking at closer to £30 for 10 infantry, as at this point, I've already got a LOT of Darklands stuff already - not sure if I need more Hosts in metal!
Still, Mierce is smart about this - I can see there being 'blocks' of just Infantry available too, without the big beasties - maybe?
£2/3

I'd guess maybe a bit more than that even £3.50-4 outside of the host,
as I suspect the biggest generators of the discount in the hosts will be the big things,
where the humans are going cheaper but require more be more spinning, handling and checking so there will be less margin for offering discounts on them
(still less than half the resin price though)

Doesn't line infantry average ~£5 a model currently? Ironically, still much cheaper than a lot of GW kits, but a cut down to £3.50 would be a significant saving.

They were £5ish in the kickstarters, but go for £10ish in the store. I can imagine it's very difficult to convince people to be interested in your game when a unit of 10 regular foot soldiers is just shy of £100.
The big stuff probably sells well by itself, but I wonder how many of the little guys they've sold post kickstarter prices.

what sort of price difference is there between metal and resin units for normal infantry types? Is a 10 man metal unit say 75% of the cost of a resin one?
10 resin Duguth w cmd, say, is £70 RRP. 10 metal Duguth w cmd will be £30 at RRP. They'd be £5 individually.

I'm quite fond of metal, ok, it can be a bitch to assemble, but there's a reassuring weight to it you just don't get with plastic or resin.

Did someone mentioned metal? Some of the elements on infantry like spears and banners will be a lot more sturdy now. Something to check out next Salute I guess.

That sounds promising! Very interested in this now, as previously the awesome human sized models were mostly off limits to me due to the cost per model. Definitely pledging if only to have the option to buy more later.
Also love that you'll include an a la carte price, even at £5 that is much better.

...but this is still significantly cheaper, so all around this is a very good thing.
Remember, that he's saying that those are RRP (recommended retail price). 5 duguth RRP is £35. The £50 price for 10 duguth (RRP £70 approx) was the kickstarter price which is typically 20% cheaper. I'd hazard a guess that for 10 metal Duguth Kickstarter price, it will be around £25.
