Hey gents, this is for my orks/guard table. The idea is a snow table, let me know what you think. Here is pictures of what i have to work with. the idea is some sort of castle type deal with out laying cityish area.
The ork thread that started it all: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/470624.page
This is what i have to work with. This is also my first table, so i will be open to all the tips/tricks and wizard powers you got.

It looks like quite a good start. I would highly recommend adding a think piece of MDF to the bottom of the three "sections" of the base of the board. (they will add some more support to the foam) As for more specific hints/recommendations You will have to be a bit more specific. (regarding what your end look is desired to be.)

Well i am looking into if people feel the terrain placement is fair, how to do good snow, perhaps even snow banks and such. And any other Tips/tricks people got up their selves.

The idea is looking very promising, one thing though make as much of the terrain as possible so that its not attached to the board so you can move it round. This will always give you a different perspective when playing games as no two will be the same.
Also some trees with snow on would help bring out the theme.

i will figure out how to do that then. As for trees, the fluff is its a death ice world, so i dont think trees will cut it.

I second the mobile terrain. I have an urban table that is made from 6 - 2' x 2' squares. The terrain pieces are each glued to heavy clipboard-ish backing. Allows for different configurations. Although I would say on one of the central foam pieces you could carve out a small trench network/ice crater. Just some ideas, but nice use of terrain.

I meant to ask... Is the sction on top intended to be hills, or a 4th section?

i will attempt my best to making it modular.

ah.
I would recommend (as others have mentioned) keeping the buildings as movable as possible. I would also recommend plotting out the general "terrain features" on some graphpaper or in google sketchup to get a feel for the overall layout.

the comment of GiraffeX
about the trees i think is a very good one... even a dead world will still have SOME kind of plant live... even dead ones.... just take a look at all those bombed out trees in the trench war of the WWI... dead trees all over...it really helps to bring along the ice wasteland feel some more!

i was feeling more of trees/plants hate being frozen, but now i am feeling some kind of japanese tree would be cool, perhaps a garden area in the field. We will see i did a sketch here and i dont know how it looks so i will take a picture later, doing a lab report atm.

better dead trees than blooming ones.... tho... some really bright and colorful petals... that certainly would give the whole tabel an eerie feel you possibly couldn´t get by only going dead wastelands...

i was never planning on doing dead wastelands. Just snow covered thick icy stuff. It will give me a chance to make up some wild flora.

Holy hell that's cool!
You could also have somewhat large ice crystal "forrests"
As stated many times before, make all the smaller terrain bits removable, for the reasons mentioned before. In fact, You may even want to make that giant castle top piece unattached, so that way it doesn't have to be in the center of the table all the time. If it's length happens to be the same width as the rest of the table, you could put to one side sometimes to change it up. Or sometimes you just might not want a giant castle for a battleground.
Also a trench/chasm could be pretty sweet somewhere in there
As for snow banks, I'm a huge fan of paper machet. It's as cheap as it gets. Crumple up newspaper very tightly into the appropriate hill size, glue to a base of cardboard, cover the whole thing in paper machet. Then apply whatever effects you do for snow, after a few solid days of drying. OR what would prolly work even better is if you cover it in wood glue instead of paper machet. Would probably make the outer shell harder, and much less likely to get moldy before it dries. I can't help you with snow effects though, never tried that before, but that's how I made my rokks and a few sand dunes for me orkses. Do make sure that it's completely dry though.
It looks epic as hell though. And I love the snowy idea. Can't wait to see your progress.

My long term terrain project is making planet Aurelia from Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising - which is an ice/snow world that has been lost in the warp for 1000 years. Here's what I've picked up.
For snow effects, buy a large shaker of the Woodland Scenics Snow flock. Mix it with about 1:1 white glue. IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE CHEAP GLUE - USE THE GOOD STUFF. Cheap glue will yellow over time and leave you with puss-like, crusty snow. Stir the glue and flakes together and it will make a thick, gooey substance that you can place on window sills or in piles. A little bit of this on all the major edges of a piece of terrain will go a long way toward making the whole table pop.
For snow banks or swallowed terrain/vehicles, build the vast portion of the bank out of stucco patch/wall plaster. Once dry, top it with a layer of the snow discussed above.
For snow/ice covered solid ground simply prime the entire area grey, then, once dry, spary a layer of white from about 1.5x the suggested distance. The idea with the white isn't to make the entire area white, but rather to get a nice uneven white coat. When dry it will look almost bluish white. Then dry brush white paint against and harsh/sharp edges of terrain or craters. -- Using this technique on the lower section of buildings (once painted) will give the look of snow having been blown by the wind against the building.
For ice, use liquid water effects as directed. Once dry, a light layer of spray paint from 1.5-2x distance will make it look like chipped, snow covered ice.
Hope that all helps!

last setup is making it a bit difficult for dynamic/flexible deployment zones... but i like the look of the look of that set up better than the one with the centered castle...
on your sketch you show a sort of cave/bunker entrance that is conected to one road...that is the kind of road you should go for... not many more tho... as for what type of road.... hmmm.... bricks... tideous work mate can´t really come up with other options tho...(you do indeed mean cobblestones?)
