It's probably not as bad as world anchors. I'll check the range on my island one, but I may be able to get away with removing it. Not that another one is in range, but that it's produced a fair bit that could probably last a while.

If it's just a klein star in an energy collector, then there's no entities involved there (it's just a block - or at least it's only one entity that's being tracked). However, if you also have a rabbit warren of pipes full of items flowing about in the same area, then that can cause unnecessary load

darkinnit wrote:I now have found a fairly reliable way to monitor (but not restrict) the amounts of Teleport Tethers, Dimensional Anchors, and World Anchors in the world, as well as their owners. So for now I will continue to allow them, but if lag becomes an issue, I will speak to those who have the most chunks loaded about cutting down or rationalising their layout. (e.g. build stuff on multiple floors within one chunk loader's range rather than using several chunk loaders). However, I think the main issue with chunk loaders is not how many chunks are loaded, but how many entities are bouncing around in those chunks. So if you have a chunk loader sitting next to a machine that's passing hundreds or thousands of items around in pipes when you're not even online, you are a bad person. I am also running long term monitoring of the server load. So far, since Thursday, it's been gradually increasing, but we have just had a weekend and the load may go down again now that people have to go to work/school.
The only necessary chunk loaders I have are the teleporter ones. Without them, the buttons get stuck, even with my delay system. Also the MFSUs don't charge, leading to annoying delays. I am very willing to move the teleporter that goes from the pit to Iustis' island somewhere outside the fortress as well-- perhaps a bridge leading off of the southern wall to a tower, for example. It'd reduce the EU cost anyway. Everything else can go without being force loaded. I set up the Meli LLC HQ to Techhouse Prime teleporter in a place specifically meant to be easy on the server. Still.... usually, Meli LLC's projects don't have many moving entities, aside from the geothermal plant, until you push the button to activate them. If you want, Dark ,come look and see if we should remove any of the chunk loaders?

I'm going to have to investigate each chunk loader this evening, as we're getting the exact same heavy server load whether there's 10 people on or nobody at all on. Somewhere there must be a chunk loader next to something stupidly complex...

That would possibly be the ones inside Meli LLC. I'm fine with removing it if that's causing heavy server load.

Anything that infinitely spawns entities and has them going through pipes is likely to cause issues.
A quarry or array of quarries might have the same effect, but eventually they hit bedrock and stop.
I have no problem with either of these things being built in the world, but keeping a chunk loader near one with an infinite source is not nice on the server (or other players)

My solar panel place was running nonstop with a world anchor. I've removed the world anchor now and shut it down as I reduced to 2fps whenever I went near the damn thing, it has like 7/8 condesors producing things/pipping stuff around.
I guess i'm going to have to work out how to reduce the massive lag but it will stay off until then.

Hmm, I think we need a limit on how many enderchests can be claimed by a single person, as well as a list of who has claimed certain combos of enderchests. Me (IGN ETomb) and iloveserperior have claimed the black-black-* chests. (just stating it again because it was a few pages back) Also, I shouldn't be causing lag at the moment, my batboxes blew up, meaning that I'm no longer macerating blaze rods

Teleports over long distances are a pain in the ass. They get stuck in the on position sometimes, even with a chunk loader block nearby . The best way to "solve" this is by using redstone repeaters to delay the signal for several seconds, but even then the redstone repeaters themselves can get stuck permanently on when using teleporters. Really, the only way to get around this is through having paired one way teleporters, as that way you can correct it (By pushing the button) before stepping on it again, unlike two-way teleporters. If you want me to set up a pair of one way teleporters to your home, you need to make me eight MFSUs and four teleporters. The more MFSUs per teleporter, the better, but two may work, since no one has gone tens of thousands of blocks away from spawn. Yes, teleporters are expensive to make, and use, so to preempt complaints of expense: This is minecraft. If you want everything to be easy, go in to creative mode.

Not sure, but it looks like whether the problem was iLordNoob's solar panel factory, or Melissia's crazy machine thing, (possibly the latter) it seems to have been resolved, for now:
(The "load" in this graph is not a percentage, but a measurement where anything above 1.0 means it has to queue up to be processed)
However, the sudden change in the graph indicates it was only one thing causing the problem (that was then turned off) rather than two (turned off at separate times). Sadly Tekkit/Minecraft doesn't provide any debug features to trace exactly what is causing the problem, without flying around in-game turning things off and on and waiting a bit to see how it responds once the machines start to fill out all the pipes and so on. It certainly seems that pipes are ok, but pipes and complicated automatic crafting setups seem to have an impact (possibly some kind of feedback loop?).
But to reiterate, the Tekkit server still seems to chug along as normal with no noticeable impact to gameplay when this is all going on (it just writes a lot of complaints about "keeping up" in the log). The physical server (as opposed to the Tekkit software) still has plenty of resources free, the limitation appears to be a Java/Minecraft issue - it can only make use of a single core. So I have no problem with these crazy machines being used when you're online. But leaving them on when you're not online is less friendly for those who are online.
