I think they should make a rule that allows the land speeder typhoon to carry flak missiles, so that SM chapters that do not have access to flyers have an option for air cover of some sort instead of just an aegis defense line.

It is the way of Fenris. We stay as long as we can. Fight as hard as we can. Kill as much as we can. Only when we can do no more do we move on.

Sometimes you gotta roll the hard six!

For the record, you can get a Whirlwind-variant with Skyfire/Interceptor krak missiles, a Land Raider variant with Skyfire/Interceptor krak missiles instead of a heavy bolter, and a specialized BS5 Dreadnaught with Skyfire/Interceptor when stationary out of Imperial Armor Aeronautica. The Aegis line is far from their only means of defense.

This would still be cool, though. How would you price it? Flakk on CSM Havocs is +10pts, so it should be at least +20pts since you've got two shots...

Yea I think 20 points would be about right for 2 shots would be about right. It would give an army a good cheap way to protect against air threats.

Niiai are you referring to the different types of land speeder because in my codex i get the regular land speeder, the tornado, and the typhoon, and after some net research I found the forge world rules that allow me to use the tempest. (but I don't think the boss will allow me to shell out 50 bucks for one model)

Just updated rules for all your flyers and super-heavy flyers. Barracuda (really cheap BS3 light flyer with an ion cannon and a missile pod), Tiger Shark (2-SP superheavy that transports fourteen Gun Drones around for some reason), Tiger Shark AX-1-0 (2-SP superheavy with a giant Apocalypse-scale twin-linked railgun (S D solid shot and S7/AP3/10" blast submunitions)), Orca (3-SP superheavy transport that can carry four Fire Warrior squads and six Battlesuits and have them all disembark via one access point in one turn), Manta (10-SP superheavy giant lump of killy death), and Remora drones (squadrons of 1-5 cheap light flyers with twin-linked 36"-range burst cannons).

It makes no sense. The very means by which the Land Speeder operates makes it unable to shoot correctly at the sky. Also traditionally anti-air is either carried out by other air vehicles or ground support capable of staying rather stationary, which a Land Speeder wouldn't work well doing. They are all about fast recon and scouting.

That's what the Whirlwind Hyperios is for, in terms of generalist air cover. I can tell you that it's a Whirlwind that replaces its normal blast-artillery with a Skyfire/Intercept krak missile, I suspect that I'm forbidden by forum rules to go into more detail.

I'm grateful for the responses. It will help me flesh out my SW army. I was just trying to find a cheap semi flyer for my army. Maybe put in the rules that if a land-speeder uses flak missiles it fired at minus 1 of the BS, if they are moving, or something like that.

Keeping the upgrade cost, that'd actually be reasonably balanced. I'd play against it.
