Best way to start off your army is to get boyz. a lot of boyz.

Ork Battleforce actually is great starting point. Lots of useful stuff for a good bargain compared to buying it all individually.

You're probably going to want an HQ after getting something like the Battleforce. Like a Big Mek or a warboss w/ a power klaw.

Depends on what type of Orc army you want to run.

A battle force is always a good way to go. First, you need to decide what kind of army you are going to start:
1. speed freak - lots of trukks and warbikes
2. kan wall - killa kanz in a wall with deff dreadz
3. dakka - lootaz and dakkajets
4. lotsa boyz - (name gives it away)

These are the four best working kinds of ork armyies IMO.

Clans doesnt really dictate the army playstyle. Only army paint/colour scheme.
Are you gonna want to run all-bikers? Battlewagon brigade? Foot-horde of green tide? All Trukks? Deffwing? Shooty with Big Gunz and SAG Mek?

He meant more army type - as in Mekanized (Trukk/Wagon Boyz), Horde, Kans, Bikers, shooty, etc.

Hordes, bikes, and mechanized are all hugely different army types. Ya kinda have to pick.

Well, IG has the same problem; Aircav, Gunline, and Mech are all very cool, but you have to do one.

So I made two armies

My first was Aircav, and when I was all done with it, I made Gunline next.

So really, you only have to choose one for now; focus all your time and money on it, and when its all grown up and done, you can move on to another.

How does each work

Bikes:

Fast, big groups of bikes that cross the board in a turn or two and assault/shoot stuff.

Horde:

Hundreds of ork boys swarm the opponent shooting/chopping at them until they grind them down.

Mek:

Ork boys in vehicles and tanks blow stuff up and drive all over the place.

You could do a trukk horde, where all the boyz are in as many trukks as you can fit. The best way to play with orks is to go all out in one particular style though.

a Big Mek with a Kustom Force Field. And what do you mean by cheapest? Points wise? $$ wise? You need to be more specific with your questions if you want us to be able to answer you decently.

Give this a look through.

Ailaros is doing a bike army for about 150-180 dollars. Much cheaper than most armies out there.

He gives a great guide on how to do it.

If you want a cheap army, you have to be willing to read some tricks to do it. There's very few shortcuts in 40k; that thread right there is a great shortcut to an army at half the price of what you would normally spend.

So you can either read it; or figure out how to afford a full-price army. Sorry.

Heh, true. Also orks can be expensive though, just to let you know, and I'm not just talking about the boyz. Boyz are cheap if you know where to find them (AOBR). Its the vehicles that get you imo. I built my second Battlewagon and a couple Trukks from scratch. And the good part is, no one cares, because its orks!

My suggestion to you is convert ork boys / nobs to any special units its saved me a lot of $ and you get to build them as you imagine them .
So far ive made 5 flash gits from nob and boys 2 weird boys a few tank bustas and made a ton of extra vehicles including a crap yard looking tank from jusy spar stuff in my bit boxes.
o and my 10 man commando squad with nob.

Orks are incredibly expensive... I spent about $300 on my bikes alone (buying on ebay from america, would be twice as expensive in AU)

Boyz, in the numbers you need them for a horde army are again, incredibly expensive. If you wanted a full horde army of boyz, 180 of them costs $520..

The best, and probably only good, value for money orks have is their loota box. 4 Lootas, 4 burnas and one mek for $25

But yes, orks is not an army to play if you have very limited money... But we've said this already in your other thread.
