So I mostly play for fun, and that normally means we agree on a point total and then I build my list with my favorite units and we play. Sounds simple right? Well, I haven't been keeping track of winning or losing lists, its just for fun. I want to try and remember more of my more epic lists for future games of similar points totals and since I'm forgetful I figured I'd try to get one of these programs (rather than put together an excel spreadsheet). Any suggestions?

I use 'Army Builder' by Lonewolf. It's the best program I've found so far if you don't want to mess with excel and don't mind spending a bit of money.

There are also some free list creators for iOS/Android but they aren't as comprehensive.

I believe Army Builder is more or less the default software people use. BattleScribe is an alternative, free, but I'm not sure how good it is (I'll probably give it a glance one of these days, but I haven't been motivated enough yet.)

BattleScribe rocks

"Listen closely Brothers, for my life's breath is all but spent. There shall come a time far from now when our Chapter itself is dying, even as I am now dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then my children, I shall listen for your call in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime."Leman Russ

Yeah battlescribe is amazing, and with the updates, you can include allies in the same roster etc etc. Its so fun and easy to use. The only nag is finding the files to start of with but after that its great.

Honestly save your money and dont buy armybuilder. Battlescibe is just as good, if not better. And its free!!!

Battlescribe is great. I have it on my phone and it lets me just sit and tinker with lists whenever. And you can download all the data straight from the website.

I use/really like BattleScribe, and it is customizable. There is a catalogue editor where you can input new books that come out.

There is this nice program called Word. It tends to come on Computers. You have full creative abilty.

It will even store the document in a digital medium for easy future reference that you can share with others.

And no database whatsoever!

Word tends to be found with a program called Excel. You can build your own Database

I cant see any reason as to how Word is better than something like Battlescribe though.

To each there own I guess, everyone has their preferred way of doing army lists

Thanks for the great recommendations from everyone, except Grey Templar. Thank you for the sarcastic and unhelpful response.

And Quite the time waster if you do build your own database!

I tried Battlescribe, Armybuilder 2.2 and Armybuilder 3. I then bought Armybuilder 3 - I found it far nicer to use.

Can't hurt to try battlescribe and armybuilder 3 demo. See which you prefer, and if you think the difference is worth the $40 for AB3.

Word is actually a something you buy. It also costs quite a bit of money for just a home license, as long as we're not getting into... you know.

You might be referring to Notepad or Wordpad, which does, you know, come on computers with an MS operating system.

And Excel is a thousand times better than word for list building.

And Battlescribe is a thousand times better than Excel.

Making Battlescribe a million times better than Word.

My numbers are quite accurate as well.

Depends how much effort goes into it. If I played someone with a scribbled down list on the back of a pack of smokes or a napkin, I'd be more than a little miffed.

It's not hard to come across a smartphone these days, and Battlescribe is 100% free on them. The only hard part is finding your first repositories, but it only takes a little effort.

I guess I'm a moron, but I don't think the version of Battlescribe I have works with those links. I found a video on youtube that has a tutorial on how to load the info etc, but the interface for the program (even the File dropdown menu) is completely different. Not sure if anyone else has had this issue but if you can help I need it

If you have an iOS device (ie iPhone, iPad, whatever) there is a nifty program called Quartermaster that is pretty great and intuitive.

Nothing more irritating, if not downright rude, than watching someone fiddle around with their phone/laptop mid-battle.

Just use a pen and paper damnit.

Quartermaster is really cheap and really good for a mobile phones or a mac. AB is what I have on my PC and QM on my phone.

!Who would be making a list in the middle of a battle? Sounds like you have a problem with jerks, not technology. Still, its no reason to be some sort of luddite.

And while finding reliable catalogues isn't especially easy, it is quite easy to put together your own. A few hours work and a bit of thought and you can have a basic catalogue with correct points whipped up. It probably won't enforce all the various restrictions in your army or have the special rules, etc, but that's what you have a codex for.
