Hi guys,
I'm coming back to my 40k minis after a 2 year hiatus, now that i have finally some time, disposable income and space to tackle my hobby.
All that time ago, i started building a chaos guard army. Two years later, I realised that the last actual game of 40k that i played was still under 4th edition rules, so the minis are not so much built with a definitive army list or codex in mind, they are more of a creative outlet.
I decided early on that i wanted to convert each infantryman after a couple of guidelines:
- nonstandard weapons
- robe/trenchcoat for that cult look
- rebreather/gasmask.

so far i have (re)assembled two squads, tentatively conforming to veterans, penal legionnaires and battle psykers:

Vets

Rabble

Weirds

so far, i used the few assembled minis for my rpg group, which is why this little guy here already has a little paint on him

since most of them suffer from a bad case of frankenmini syndrome, i gave them all a light basecoat of german grey to unify them visually.
I hope i'll be able to post some PIP pics and/or vehicles tomorrow or until friday. I know the picture quality is below average, i am (once again) in the process of acquiring a working digicam.

Cheers, and thanks for reading

the brave cyclop warwalker section faces a mighty felinesque xeno monster. the monster ignores them, mostly.

a tutorial it is, then. although it's really short.
the basic components are (evidently) an ork deff dread body and valkyrie missile pods or an aegis quad gun. i didnt use anything fancy, as that makes the chance of repeating a build really small.

the flamer is a guard flamer nozzle on a chimera ball mount the searchlight is from the new chimera, i guess. not sure though, but i had a couple of them lying around.
the deff dread really has slim legs, especially since the leg armour was not included in the bitz package. :/ that's why my trusty chimaera left-overs donated that angled armour plate that you need for building the basilisk to make the samurai pants style leg armour.

to fill out the legs some more and to angle the plates precisely, i used half of a tank shell. vindicator or baneblade, not sure on that one either.
the heat sinks are old tank wheels with the nub removed. the original smokestacks looked way too orky for my taste, i prefer this more beefy/diesel looking solution.
Later today, i might get to finally post the colour scheme tester, or alternatively another walker, which would ruleswise become a contemptor dread.
cheers

apart from finally seeing skyfall, today i managed to put some finishing touches on this bad boy:

contemptor dread/iron warriors daemon prince aka the taskmaster.

i really like the dreadknight kit and the concept, but not for grey knights. at half the size and as something like the new IG sentinel, it would have been awesome. as it is, it looks like the big frame brought little termi for bring-your-kids-to-work-day. yo dawg, i herd you liek armor, so we put this armor on that armor, so you can wear armor while wearing armor.

yes, he is. as i said, not really a codex in mind. this guy and his bros might be
- plague ogryns
- chaos spawn
- grotesques.

i remember now why i have about twenty times more converted unpainted models than painted models: that painting thing is really hard. still, here are the five guys who drew the short straw and became the official militia 2.0 colour scheme testers.
i was going for dirty white robes here, but it came out kind of weird in the pictures.

i really need to get a decent camera and build a lightbox again...
