Zing. I've always gotten emails from them before when new stock comes in....

Just surprised I didn't get one this time.

Zing indeed

Did anyone get an email about these, or was it just those who happened to be trolling his site at the time who were able to jump on them?

I got an email; they tend to go out very early for an EST based company (mine was Friday July 12 at 5:21AM).

I was able to pick up the Savior at 20 and 40 years, as well as the White Speaker Nico encore, but now I regret not getting the whole Savior cycle...

No issues here either - got the email.

Lacked the funds to buy any.

Waiting until November/December 2013 or later before buying too much more from Adam!

Yeah, good call... most KS companies need to deliver something before getting additional funds from me... another reason not to have such long lead times on things / be more prepared before launching a campaign (not that KD wasn't or anything... assuming they deliver in 2013, which would honestly be shocking given the usual KS delays on big campaigns).

The "Official" ship date is still November 2013.

June Update!
Update #74 · Jun 24, 2013 · 147 comments

Hello!

I hope everyone has been well. The team has been working like crazy and I am pleased to share our developments thus far.

- Schedule Update
We are still aiming to hit our target date to begin shipping rewards in november. At this time the manufacturing partners involved have made it their priority to meet our very aggressive timeline. Things will be close as time is tight. As we work as hard as possible, If I feel the quality of the game or its components will suffer in any way, I will let you know and we can decide if we should delay it or not. While I feel that maintaing our timeline is of the utmost importance, Anna has reminded me several times that actually you, the backers, are the most important and that no one wants anything to be rushed.

- Shipping Update
The current plan is to personally fulfill all of the domestic rewards from our warehouse / studio in brooklyn NY. We are looking into better solutions for the international rewards and have started to contact fulfillment companies for quotes and deals. The fact that USPS shipping rates more then doubled during the course of the KD campaign has not made this task any easier! Currently about 400k of the funds have been budgeted towards shipping and I'd like to reduce that and shift the money towards production & art.

- Plastic Manufacturing Update
This is one point I am super excited about. We have secured a vendor and a process that I am very confident in. I personally flew to china early may to spend time touring the facility and going over the finer points of the project and the team their is quite capable. They are a small operation and due to the size, complexity and timeline of KD have had to expand to take up the job. The majority of engineering and production will take place from now until september. Once I have a good variety of samples to check, I will take loads of photos and divulge all of the details for everyone. Thankfully they see KD as a wonderful portfolio piece and want to give every last miniature the full attention it deserves.

- Cards & Printed Material Update
I've gotten a lot of concerned emails from fans in regards to warped boards and low quality token sheets from many kickstarter games. I have done a fair bit of research into the projects in particular that were named and I am aware of what lead to some of the issues. We are using a US based board game manufacturer that has been in the biz for 35 years. They are capable of standard components and the more premium components that will be used for KD. The game cards will be printed on a thicker greycore card ( used for casino poker cards ) and the token sheets will all be sealed in a climate controlled area to ensure they don't warp. There needs to be a fair bit of lead time for this, as its not a fast process.

- Hit Location Dice
I got em! They are awesome! We might mix in a very small amount of glow in the dark pigment to the white, to give it a more matte off-white feeling. This gives the die more contrast between the gloss black and matte interior and in my opinion, gives it that little extra pinch of handsome.

- Lantern Armor
The lantern armor is the most durable armor that can be crafted in the core game and it is not an easy set to reach. I was never fully satisfied with the original sculpture and thankfully there was enough time for me to slide in a resculpt! So now you can check out the Lantern Armor as was truly envisioned!

- Hunt Board
Lokman and I worked on this one together. He supplied the awesome border artwork and I did the layout. The center of the board is a unique gameplay element. When you reach this space, you trigger the overwhelming darkness story event. This represents the survivors traveling far away from their settlement and deep into the darkness where the atmosphere is its thickest. In this story event only the courageous or insane get by unscathed.

- Font Size
We've decided to try and stick to an 8pt font size as our minimum wherever possible. While personally I have no problem reading a smaller size, I've chatted with Anna and many of the backers and resolved that bigger is better. For reference most magazines use an 8pt font as do magic cards. In picking a font, we agonized for a while and ended up selecting a special type of font that's edges come to a point to make it more readable.

- Sculpted Slender Man
When the Slender Man concept art was revealed, Jacques-Alexandre Gillois instantly sent me a message the simply said. Let me sculpt this one! We finished up the sculpting on schedule and here are the photos of Jacques inspired sculpt.

- Aya Origin Comic
At this time I am not sure we will make the print deadline for this to be included in the game manual. If that is the case, I will release it online for everyone to enjoy.

And the art continues to be arted!

But yeah, odds are it will slip, and if it does, 2014 will be it's new home!

If KD:M arrived this November it'd totally catch me by surprise. Honestly, how many of us are actually expecting it to deliver on time?

I personally expect Feb-Mar 2014 lol. I also have no issues with that time frame. The only one so far that kinda hurt is Relic Knight's massive delay. It was delayed so hard that most people have lost all energy/excitement for the game around here.

I have to be honest. The fact that they were able to get new product out WHILE working on the Monster campaign is going to potentially speak incredibly well for Adam.

Would you still feel that way if the campaign is late, though? Presumably, these figures that are getting released now are in the same resin that the resin KS rewards needs to be cast in... and perhaps by the same caster?

That would be unfortunate... but Adam has A LOT of spare customer loyalty with me. So no, it would make no difference, the man has to eat (and as long as he is not releasing the KS starters to people before we start getting mailed I have no issue here)

If the game and components are of the quality that Adam has been talking about I could forgive the project sliding a little (the fact that it might then coincide with my paternity leave has nothing to do with it honest guv )

Ofc being a Sedition Wars and Mantic backer I have become quite willing to wait if it means I don't get a half-arsed job at the end of the process

It might also be that production of Monster has entered a phase that has freed up modelling resources enough to create some intermediate releases.

Oh, I don't think he'll starve somehow

Fafnir- Entirely possible, I'm just saying it seems likely the resin KS rewards are cast by this same person... and I'm wondering if they're cast yet.

They may be, or at least, the ones that have been finalized so far. Might as well keep your caster busy inbetween the kickstarter work.

Or it could be that, aside from prototypes, he's kept from ordering resins for Monster in order to do it all at once.

Either way, I can't imagine Poots shooting himself in the foot, especially after the trials and tribulations of running the KS campaign itself. He seems to learn pretty quickly.

One thing you can set your clocks by - RiTides rainin' on Kingdom Death parades!

I don't feel like RiTides is raining on the parade. I feel like he is asking geniune and reasonable questions.

Personally for me, this project was pretty much just for cool mini's to paint over time to increase my skill level and give me a break from 40k mini's. So when it arrives doesn't really matter to me.

Fine, Alph, I'll own the label if you'll own that it's a reasonable question, like Hulk says. I give a little you give a little, right

It's just the more I see of these kind of long lead time, huge campaigns... the more tempted I am, if my own project ever comes to fruition, to get private financing and be able to release it all in one go.

Then I wouldn't have to deal with people like me asking about the huge campaign when I release something while it's in the pipeline

See, we're actually on the opposite end of the spectrum RTides. And maybe it's because I have too much faith in people, but I see him releasing some models in the intermediary as a good thing. It indicates to me that he's confident enough that they have their ducks in a row that he can.

RiTides does bring up some interesting points.

But they tend to drift into that always dangerous "Should" category.

I guess I'm OK with waiting until November 2013 before getting too upset.

Funny thing is, I'm guessing almost everyone went into this one expecting it to be late, especially with where it ended up, and how it got there!

I guess Adam and company have more built in goodwill than most other companies' Kickstarters?

It could be that the people who post on this topic at dakkadakka have more experience with kickstarters, and have gotten accustomed to delays.

"What if RiTides is right and I can't make the deadline? What if I let the backers down?"

I can see how it might be upsetting for people to imagine - correctly or incorrectly - that effort is being diverted elsewhere when Adam's already made a commitment to the KD:M backers. Personally it doesn't bother me since I'm assuming he's got some downtime from the production of things and devotes that to continuing the boutique side of Kingdom Death. i.e. It's not directly interfering with KD:M.

What does bother me is constantly missing out when these danged models come out!
