A small dark place

I admit I have not read the new rules but based off the lists I'm seeing posted, there are absurd combinations being allowed. I'm sure alot of people disagree but It has really killed it for me.

Then don't use allies.

It is really not all that powerful. It just gives you some extra options.

Wargamers tend to be really resistant to change and are just really capable of complaining about change.

For me, I find it an interesting new part of the game where I get to come up with new combinations and whatever.

Every ally you take removes points from your primary forces - generally, I can't justify losing those points for what the allies will bring...
Some things of course do seem worth it, crazy little combos here and there.
Then of course, some things, like Chaos and Daemons make sense to have together.

I would start by reading the new rules and maybe trying some games before deciding you hate it, a knee-jerk reaction with no info is a bad way to make the choice.

Plus, what some people do when they game doesn't have to have an effect on your games. If it matters that much, you can always limit yourself to only playing people who have allies that meet your standards.

It's such an insignificant change.

If that kills the game for you, then you're probably not into 40k in the first place.

I think it's a cool idea, a couple of my friends play IG and Space Marines. It's fun and interesting to play those types of armies.

Like others have said, it gives people more options. Moreover, it presents more opportunity for some fun combinations. Remember, most conflicts in the fluff include multiple parties on both sides. It's rarely X chapter vs Y enemy or whatever.

Maybe he plays nids . For nid players ally or fortification rules kind of a suck . When your opponents or friends can mix and match and tailor against you [IG army puts in a SW rune priest with jaws and GH as counter unit] . My friend played nids whole 5th , wasnt happy , but when I started to jaws his MC while playing IG and then others started to do the same , he quit .

Tyranids don't really need allies in 6th edition. Sure, it would be nice to be able to jump on the 'everyone brings a Manticore' wagon, but Tyranids got plenty stronger in 6th edition. My bugs - the same list I used in 5th edition, mind you - went from being lucky to draw to being lucky to not table my opponents. My BA playing brother was tabled twice by turn 3. Like Ovion, I can't find any spare points I'd prefer to lose in order to take any allies.

Really? What list do you run, because our local Nid player is having serious issues keeping up.

There's so much more wrong with 40k atm (the prices, the mean-spirited and stupid company policies, the horribly written new fluff, making everything broken space marines) then the allies concept, which actually isn't a bad idea imo. So yeah...

Allies for me is like fw, it's a yes or no kinda thing. I usually prefer no allies outside of a game with more than one opponent. I tend to find for every cool or interesting combination you see, there's about 10 abortions of imagination that are just completely stupid. That's the problem of allies from my perspective, I'd rather people at least attempt a count as conversion rather than some of the god awful s**t you see. What you really have to worry about is the really horrible crap in 6th like about half the scenarios, random objectives or the biggest elephant in the room, fortifications.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

I honestly also stuck my nose up at it at first also.

It just had "power gamer" all over..But if you read the rules and look at all the lists out there...It actually is not used all that much. If it is..It is nothing over powered about it.

Not quite sure what everyone is on about bad combos on the field...Since with the allies matrix in the BRB it limits what you can and cant do...and most things on the list make total sense.

Just losing No Retreat! was a huge boon to Nids.

In 5th edition, I won a good number of games, but once 6th rolled around, it was like someone flipped a switch and just let the army run wild.

I agree losing No Retreat! was a huge boon, but not just to nids, to my Blood Angels as well.

I run over them every time I fight them.

Maybe it is just bad tactics on my opponents part.

That's your meta, and does not mean anything.

Every meta is different.

Some are full of great players with great lists. Some are not. Every case is different.

Nowhere did the OP make clear that he dislikes the allies listing due to the overpoweredness or brokenness of certain ally-related lists.

Yet that seems to be the most common assumption here. He could take issue with the accuracy to fluff, or rather his perception, depending.

I hope the OP realizes that the allies rules is completely optional. and if he didn't want a discussion about it, he should 't have posted it.

A "boon" is something *GOOD* that happens. If you boss gives you a raise, he has granted you a boon.

Boon (Noun)
1. something to be thankful for; blessing; benefit.
2. something that is asked; a favor sought.

I just find it funny people complain about allies, when that was how the game worked before 5th edition removed it..
