Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone who has purchased some DKOK could tell me if the kits had 'loose' helmets, that is to say, not attached to a head. Forge world's pictures and descriptions weren't much help.

Cheers,

The Orks got to Antiga when my Warboss didn't like the look of the planet floating above his moon, and thought he should teach it 'Not ta stare at da Orkz!'

The Antigan 15th has survived on the simple but effective battle plan that every enemy can be beaten with enough foot soldiers and lasguns.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. Is there some sort of tool I could use to cut away the head underneath the helmet? The only thing I can think of is a dremel and that seems a bit too big for such fine work.

There's really no good way you could get the helmets off in the way you're thinking, they aren't like say, Cadian officer caps you could do that with, they encompasse far too much of the head, it'd take quite a while to get just the helmet off without destroying it, most likely annihilating the rest of the head/neck/coat collar of the model in the process.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Yeah DKoK are pretty well insulated against the outside world. I dont think they have a single model with any skin exsposed.

Hmmm.... well, in that case, does anyone know of something similar to DKOK out there? Really I'm just looking for WWII german-esque helmets to throw on some guard I'm experimenting with.

If all you need is the helmet, that'll be difficult. Pig Iron Productions has some really good Stahlhelm heads with their Kolony Militia if you're looking at that, as does Wargames Factory's Shock Troops.

@Vaktathi: I don't need the helmet alone necessarily, but I don't want the face covered with a gas mask. That seems to be the real problem I'm running into.

Yeah, Pig Iron has some gorgeous products. I used those heads for some veterans a while back.

You could always use something like this http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=126_149 and try to chop the helmets off or just stick them on the IG bodies. Not sure how the scale matches up but it says they are 28mm.

these guys have got 4 different gas mask heads; no helmet, pan helmet(like WWII), rolled helmet(like DKOK), officer hat(kinda like a commissar)

If your attack is going too well, you have walked into an ambush

The easy way is always mined

Lol, I guess I'm stuck with gas masks

Well, this has been very informative. Thanks all for the help.

I promise, only another month or so before I start putting up my work here on Dakka Dakka. Just waiting for Christmas to roll around and Santa to drop off all the supplies I need.

Wait, all you want is the ww2 helmets, with bare faces on them?

Then go for ww2 heads, not sci-fi ww2 heads. Derp. There's plenty of 28mm historical miniatures you can just do headswaps with.
Warlord games, and Wargames Factory have pretty good and cheap plastic kits and bits.

Here's 33 german heads for 5 dollars.

Well maybe I should explain what I'm after. The DKOK helmets work particularily well because A)I'm very fond of rivets for some reason, and B) They have that raised ridge on the top. I plan to add Roman-esque crests, and the ridge on the DKOK would make it look like the helmet was actually made to accomodate such a modification, rather than the slap dash look I get when I try it on regular german helmets.

The DKOK also look more future oriented than regular German helmets, and since I'm building a tech-savvy guard, steel pot helmets wouldn't exactly fit.

Though those helmets look cool. If I can't find a different approach, I'll probably use those.

Thanks!

Warlord games has a decent french infantry line that are essentially Dkok without the masks. Unfortunately, I think these are metal, unlike their newer plastic kits.

Man, I totally forgot about the French helmets!

Anyone know of plastic minis like these? They would work perfect.
