Which bit, that the Lightning was already that expensive or Kan defending it?

Defending what? I posted a correction. The price is going to be a 3 GBP or so difference, not "twice as expensive".

I was going to say that if Kan played WFB, he'd definitely play Bretonnians, but now, with Dark Angels getting Knights too.... I don't know!

Of course, I don't picture Kan as a Black Knight...

I would not play Bretonnians good sir!

I would not get to have as many Peasant Bowmen as I would want.

My Dark Angels, pending a decision regarding my existing crop of Terminators, might get sold off.

My mistake on the price, though I am miffed that they just dropped the old model with no warning. What about their existing stock, what happens to that? At the very least, make it known that production has ceased, and the product will only be sold while quantities last.

Though I can definitely see the resemblance to the Avenger; the wing design and general layout is extremely similar.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

When the model was originally shown at GD UK they mentioned that it would replace the old Lightning, and the entire stock of the old model sold out within hours.

Why do all the flyers look so similar? I know planes today all use very similar patterns but this is a game and it isnt real. GET CREATIVE..... jeez

Yeah, why could anyone want each army to have a distinct and immediately recognizable look instead of making everything completely new and creative?

I disagree with that. Some of the older resin superheavies are superior to today's plastic ones. The Lucius Baneblade for instance looks more like a proper tank rather than the church on treads that is the new plastic Baneblade.

that would make sense, if GW replaces a model with a new plastic version I'd suspect they would want you to buy the new plastic one vs the old resin one

Well I am a big fan of the style that FW are going with the flyers, having them all tie together more cohesively was a great idea.

Why are its wings on backwards? I mean, even the flaps got placed wrong. Oh well, maybe a square edge counts as a aerofoil in the 41st millennium. Skulls would be more aerodynamic....

I find it funny how often FW uses the Annihilator Leman Russ in its promotional materiel.

Granted, it's kind of cool looking, and makes sense from a fluff perspective, but boy is it useless rule-wise.

As for the new lightning; looks alright fully painted, but can't say I dig it enough to spend $130 bucks on it. If I'm going to spend that money on a flier, I'd get a thunderbolt. In fact, I slightly prefer the Avenger; the compact form and gatling-style weapon reminds me of the A-10, and I loved that plane as a kid.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

I can appreciate the new version, but I have to say that the old version was very attractive, too. The new one fits more of a design aesthetic with the other Imperial Navy fliers, though.

As for the lander being discontinued, the only time it hit my table was as the crashed version from the Macragge set, lol. I didn't ever buy that starter set, but I bought the lander sprue separately because it was such cool scenery.

Well.... yeah!

But that's a Forgeworld thing. I can buy two plastic Dark Eldar flyers and use them as Nightwing Interceptors for the price of a single one from Forgeworld. But then again, FW is a luxury, so you can hardly complain, lol.

Aye, but sometimes it seems a little gratuitous.

For instance, all the DKoK tank kits come with loads of stuff, and are a pretty sizeable chunk of resin, but they're only somewhat more expensive than the standard kits.

If you buy their normal conversion kits; FW turret and normal body, it's actually slightly cheaper, and you get a spare plastic turret out of the deal.

Though, as a rule it seems, FW charges about 30% more than normal kits, and since flier are so expensive to begin with in plastic, they in turn are that much more expensive from FW.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

That's actually not true. You're paying (at current exchange rates) $85 for a DKoK tank vs. $50 for a plastic one, and the DKoK tank isn't even all-resin. And the "only slightly more expensive" (not cheaper) conversion kits are only so cheap relative to plastic because the only FW part is the turret and that's a fairly small part.

Anyway, if the new Lightning is the same size as the old one it's a fairly reasonable price. These are not small models, and they're solid resin.

Was the old Lightning done away with because the moulds got old, or just because it didn't really fit the aesthetic of the rest of the flyers. I never really liked it - the Thunderbolt was always the really cool one to me - but then again I'm not such a huge fan of this new one (or its price).

Any clue on what happened to the Aquila? That thing was awesome!

I think it's a great idea. I really like the Annihilator, and got one as soon as it went on sale. Yes, it's useless - we all know that - but I'm just glad that it's sticking around. I'd hate for these things to be written out of the fluff, so its appearance here (and along with the Conqueror in IA1/2E) is a good thing.

Comments by FW at GD UK and on facebook suggest that it was an aesthetic thing. It was one of their oldest models and they (specifically the sculptor responsible for the original?) wanted to re-do it to match the current style of the IG flyers. It's just annoying that it's a complete replacement instead of keeping it as an alternate pattern just like all the countless alternate patterns of every space marine item.

As for the price, I can't see what the problem is. It's almost exactly the same price as the old Lightning and has a reasonable cost to size ratio compared to the other aircraft models.

From the statement made on Facebook, the moulds got old and the sculptor wanted to redo it anyways.

I've got a question in for them about that; we'll see what the answer is.

Please do, Kan. I like a lot of their 'non-combat' vehicles that are fun-if-not-all-that-useful to 40K players but 100% gold to 40K RPG players (why else would I have bought an Arvus Lighter?).

One interesting thing to note is that the Aquila has been rumored off/on to be the Sisters' version of the Valkyrie.
