I don't know if it counts as a rule but we never ended our games after 7 turns (or roll after 5). We used to just play until there was only one person left.

more in fifth then 6th, but i never took note of not getting an extra attack from pistols when wielding power klaws.
nob squads, already brutal in 5th, were actually obscene with 5 pk attacks on the charge each, 7 for the warboss with an attack squig...

Utterly messed up the way the IG orders work (forgot the range, rolled the wrong leadership, made the order that forces to re-roll cover ignore it instead), still lost, but it was bad.

I played at a local club years ago that ran fifth with some fourth house rule carry overs and some house rules. I had taken all of 4th and some of 3rd off from playing the game. My first Ard Boyz after coming back was a nightmare. After that, I decided the only house rules I would tolerate would deal with list construction, not gameplay. It was a humiliating mess. I done pretty good since though. Read the rules, in detail, with no preconceptions, and started tracking my record from that point on.

I had a pretty bad one. When i was new to guard, i thought that you could issue two orders to one unit. And that lascannons counting as lasguns for first rank second rank fire.... 6 twin linked lascannon shots.......

Played a tourny that was an introduction to 6th edition. Me and an opponent running...um...blood angels? The guys with the death company. Anyways, him versus my orks. I was running some deff koptas. So, I do the first turn scout move, flat out towards his pair of rhinos. I shoot at one, blow it up, then proceed to assault the other. I blow it up, turn goes to him, he moves some guys...
Then I say "wait a second, I don't think I can do that". I remembered a bit lat you can't shoot at something then assault something else. We just moved everything back in time as best we could remember and continued on. He beat me, but man that was a fun match. Best game out of that whole tourny.
Edit - Also because neither of us were veyr familiar with 6th we just played a 5th edition game with overwatch. Thus the scouting shinanigans that got slapped around in 6th.

Don't feel too bad: I've done this too, only with a heavy incinerator. Wasn't as pivotal though, barring that one game.

If i got a rule wrong in a really bad way i've probly forgotten. Those in the store I go to are more or less well versed on the rules (no rules lawyers thank fully), but they will correct you in a good manner. we probly all have gotten things wrong at some point.

When my brother and I were first starting out, we didn't realize you only took one save for a wound. We thought it made sense that you would get a cover save, then an armor save. Suffice to say, those first few 500 point matches lasted wayyy longer than they should of.

Which is funny now the can take the divin primaris power and it essentially does this.
I get things wrong from time to time, but one of the funnier was not realizing FMC's had skyfire while I was playing Daemon Flying Circus. Played against necron airforce, and got a ton of lucky shots cosidering I needed 6s to hit whilst swooping.

Biggest mixup was probably missing the change to AP from Ordnance in 6e, I think. Didn't have too much of an effect on the game, though, the dead Falcon would have been dead anyway given what that Battle Cannon rolled.

Confessor Of Sins

I used to think that Inferno Pistols had a 12" range.
I knew they were like melta weapons, but I figured, being pistols, they had a 12" range.
Then I was like, wait, that can't be right. They'd be exactly like a meltagun in a pistol then! So I looked it up, and boom, 6" range.
So my Inquisitor really shouldn't have vaporized those Space Marine guys.
And if you were wondering, I only took that Inquisitor in order to be able to take a Sister Hospitaller... Hospitaler? Hospitalier? I've seen GW spell it all three ways, so I have no darned clue.
Edit: Another one I forgot is what Jacobus' banner does when the unit he's with charges. I honestly forgot it even did anything at all in that regard. That one didn't matter, cause they massacred those Space Marines anyways.
Edit: Oh, I remembered one that's gotta be my worst EVER.
Back in 5th, we had this kinda homebrewed rule (house rule does not adequately capture the low amount of thought that went into it) regarding a particular building that allowed assaulting into buildings - cause neither I nor my opponent ever brought much anti-tank to the field cause neither of us used much in the way of armored vehicles, so buildings tended to stay up all game with the guys inside being invulnerable but unable to do anything from all the shaken, stunned, weapon destroyed, and immobilized results, which on a building in 5th, merely made the residents unable to shoot out from it.
And this was my first game after the 5e Sisters WD dex came out, so I had my Battle Conclave with a bunch of DCAs and a bunch of Crusaders, led by Jacobus, as well as a unit of Repentia, in my list.
My opponent had gotten to the center building first, and gone into it with a large unit of Honor Guard, their Chapter Master, and a Tactical Squad.
Naturally, I assaulted into the building with my Repentia and my Uriah-bomb, as it was called at the time.
So then a thought occurred. Was my initiative on the DCAs going to be reduced to 1 due to their lack of frag grenades?
So I checked the rulebook, and checked it more thoroughly, and eventually found the part that said that "if the assaulting unit must make a difficult terrain check while charging..."
And no, they did not.
Had I been acting fairly and reasonably and taken the spirit of the rule into account instead of drooling over the chance to murder the crap out of a unit that had brutalized half my army game, after game, after game... I probably would've - and should've - told the RAW to stuff it, because assaulting into a defended building has got to have the same effect as charging through difficult terrain.
But, that was not the case.
And thus, a large unit of Honor Guard were wiped out before they could attack. The Tactical Squad struck feebly and didn't hurt much at all, before being wiped out themselves by a unit of rampaging Repentia.
And the Chapter Master, who had gone unharmed, suddenly poofed out of existence after having to take 19 No Retreat! saves.
