Ok 6th has been around for a wile now and I am going to try this Poll Once more.
What is your Favorite Close Combat Weapon(s)?

I am not going to list them, there is way to many to do that sanely, but just list like your favorite Close Combat Weapons(s) and why. This can be form the point of view of Functionality, Ascetics or has just worked best for you. I would also like some reason for this other than “It Kills Terminators!” I would like some insight to you choice(s). You could also just post your top 5 list.

Currently for me is actually the Power Lance/Spear. I don’t know exactly why, but it has become my favorite, not my go to, but my favorite. I think my main reason was because everyone immediately looked at it and went “It looks useless.” My responses to things like that are to immediately give it a try and see if it is. So I gave one to my Blood Angels Blood Champion and one to one of my Thunderlords using leftover Grey Knight Halberds.

The Blood Angels Honor Guard Blood Champion: Well for one it looks cool. Then I got to use it a few times. First was against Orks, here the opening S5 Attacks did me well on the Challenge [wounding on a 3+] vs. the Ork Was bosses turned out to be vicious, the only weapon that works better are Power Mauls. They have been very useful vs. Marines, that opening AP3 S5 Attacks have made him a real Sergeant Killer.

Thunderlord: I gave my Wolf Lord Hammond a Power Lance and a Frost Axe. I know it’s a lot of points, but my waist has been with the Power Axe. The opening 7 S6 AP3 I5 attacks have been brutal vs. almost everything. I have killed of Tanks, Dreadnaughts, and even Hive Tyrants on the opening Charge with him. It has gotten to the point that I have thought of dropping the Power Axe for just a normal Chain Sword.

Now with both of them I have some basic “Rules of Engagement”:
1. Don’t Assault Terminators or other 2+ Save Units
2. Always carry Melta-Bombs, just in case.
3. Always have a second Character with AP3 or AP2 Weapons, just incase.

I am thinking of making me a “Vanguard” Force with a “300” Theme. All with jump Packs, Power Spears and Storm Shields because of how the Power Lance/Spear has been working for me. I am hoping that I can also take the Power Lance/Spear with the Dark Angels Deathwing Knights just for the Ascetic Value alone.

Now I would like to hear/read what you have to say.

I have given up of close combat for my army, I realised that it was just not worth it. Even my termies would dye fast.
My entire army is built around killing you from afar with giant guns.
But i had tooo choose, Force Staff, I have done some funky stuff with it.

I love the idea and look of the power fist. A giant, servo mechanical robot hand with an energy field that enables you to tear tank armor apart. Cool!

They're pretty overpriced in the game, and not very good IMO.

Well... I play nids and my Close Combat Nidzilla list is kinda stuck with 2x Talons...

But the combination of those 2 pairs of talons and a Trygon makes him a mean sob!

I love them to, but with challenges Sergeants with Power Fist or Thunder Hammers have become Death Traps. Most of my current Sergeants have usually a Combi-Plasmas and a Power Fist, but I am slowly going to change them to other Power Weapons. Most likely Power Mauls or Power Swords, I would like to go to Power Mauls [for the S6 Attacks], but I lack the bits.
Now with my Grey Hunters I am going to stick to the Power Fist as they are “Immune” to Challenges.

Oh yeah, I second the force staff. I racked up many kills with my Sorcerer in fifth, and in Sixth it's gotten even more hilarious, what with the challenges and all. My all time favorite was when my sorcerer beat Sly Marbo to death with his staff. Lucky rolls are awesome!

I just took off the teeth on chainswords and added a piece of sprue (shaped, of course) to the top - looks like a small hammer.

This isn't a "balanced comparative debate". This is the OP asking people what their Favourite Close Combat weapon is.

God, some people will argue anything won't they?

Talking about favorite this or that, and the reasons why without the context of which system is akin to me answering what my favorite fruit is with 'beef'

The Black Mace is awesome. The volume of attacks you can get from it alone makes it super deadly, but then the whole toughness test thing makes it even more deadly.

Neva leave 'ome without my choppa. Or a good ol' fashioned power klaw.

That said, watching a guardsman kill something with what amounts to a sharpened toothpick stuck to the end of a flashlight never gets old.

Mind Shackle Scarabs...nothing more satisfying than making an enemy kill themselves with their own weapon.

As for a true CC Weapon I'd go with the Warscythe....goes through both vehicle and body armor like a hot knife through butter. And it's only 10 points for this wonderful tool of melee mayhem, a true bargain.

Chainaxe. It's existence is proof that at some point, someone said "My axe isn't chopping through people fast enough. It needs to do it faster."

In a related note, most of my 40k group also played together with our wives in a Dark Heresy campaign. We found a poor quality chain axe which was misheard as "Pork Welder" by someone. So forever and always, Chainaxes are Pork Welders.
