Title says it all really. If they come out anything like this they will be stunning IMO!!

Aside from the shield, a nice overall design indeed.

Yeah, that shield needs a fix. Plenty of those on separate sprues from other manufacturers, though.

another good thing - these will be a joy to look at even when speedpainted.
(...yeah, I didn't anticipate these going hard-plastic so when I thought I was getting 75, I really was getting 150 of them )

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Looks promising, and perhaps a little bit fantastical to separate it from the number of high-quality historically based minis that are already out there!

Will be interesting to see what the first sculpts look like.

I've been waiting for somebody to come out with reasonably priced armored fantasy humans. Hopefully these turn out okay.

I still think it's a waste. The one hard plastic kit they're making, and it's something the Perrys are already selling for cheaper.

I prefer to have non historic human troopers in my games of fantasy wargames though... (nothing wrong with the historic stuff of course, just not my cup of tea)

What Perry miniatures kit would that be? I believe they have 2 WoTR era kits - neither of those really fills the niche this kit would for many light-hearted fantasy players IMO... Nice minis but without a fantasy twist, as mentioned.

I was going to get some extras of these, but pulled out around PM time and so am just getting the default number of free ones. Why? Because these were already available, and I decided to get more ogres/trolls/etc instead.

Lovely minis.

In theory if these Mantic kits turn out well and are a close scale match, you'd be able to mix in either the figures or even the parts (arms, helms, shields, etc) with the Perry's figures to make a really big horde of them.

True. different weapons though, right? basically those Perry models are either armoured and equipped with pikes etc. or armed with missile weapons, but clad in a gambeson and a surcoat - these models are clad in a lot of plate with some chainmail with a tabard over that. Where I come from, it's two totally different minis. Might be more of an argument aimed at AlexHolker, though

And yes, if they scale up well it might be nice to combine the kits if only for variation. (gah, that'll be 200+ of them then... poor brushes )

I've bought the Perry's historicals, both WOTR and Napoleonic, and I have been far from impressed. I plan on buying at least one box from Mantic to judge the quality, and more if I like what I see. Honestly, I think Fireforge and Gripping Beast are Mantic's biggest competitors here, and I don't see them costing too many Mantic sales without busting out the dragon or eagle motifs. When Gripping Beast comes out with Dire Wolf emblazoned Thegns wielding dragonswords then I'll agree it's an uh-oh for Mantic.

If Mantic's figures have a nice fantasy feel and exciting sculpts for about the same price as their dwarfs or even a little more, they will easily dominate the market. If price was the only thing that mattered, everyone would be using EM4 orcs and dwarves against Bag O' Zombies undead.

I've just checked out my unassembled Perry WOTR Mercenaries box after reading your post, and I'll bed to differ. The figures in it are in fact very, very good. They're also slightly smaller than their GW-Perry-Empire counterparts and so I believe will fit in well with Mantic's slightly-smaller scale.

Checking my wife and I's KoW pledges, I see that we'll either be getting 10 of the men-at-arms between us, or 20 (if all the numbers are doubled, not just BOGOF ones). Too bad it's toolate to add more stuff to the pledges!

If they have sword/spear/crossbow options on the sprue, that'll be great.

I'll definitely get an army of these, I like the "Solar Cult" background and theme they're going with.

The concepts look suitably "fantasy" to me so I think they'll stand out.

They look like they'd make great House Arryn soldiers from GoT with all those wing and crescent motifs.

I don't mean that Perry miniatures are poor sculpts in terms of proportions or details. I just mean that they're not impressive because they're just barely almost as exciting as spaghetti. (Without Meatballs.) I've seen marching bands with more aggressive posture.

I love those shields, as they are mounts for the spears to rest upon. I'm wondering if they'll be the only other De 5+ Phalanx in the game? (Bulwarkers being the only one I can think of currently)

It also wouldn't surprise me if Mantic hired the Perry bros to sculpt them. These hard plastic soldiers have the potential to be the 'flagship' Mantic fantasy release; generic fantasy soldiers to use for any games from wargames to rpg's, etc.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Hmm, looking at it again, while it could be a spear bouche, it could also be a stylized pavise. Also 'broad spear' leads me to believe it might be like a phalanx with CS1, which would be pretty awesome.

Most people DON'T want the Old Glory style "Hey Steve" poses. Perry figures have an exceptional track record for producing the finest historicals. Though I am totally in love with my Warlord ECW plastics.

There's a balance to be found between the two, though. I know they're good. Technically, I love them. for a mass battles game, I'd have no problems using them (only reason I don't have a pile already is that massive to-be-painted stack staring right at me ) but they're not all that exciting. I'm kind of hoping mantic might strike that balance a bit better (if there's one thing they've gotten right in every fantasy army so far IMO, it's posing. not too crazy but still sufficiently dynamic - something the perry stuff lacks a little.)

See, I find this to be a little over the top. Fine for individual models or skirmish games, but...

argh, my eyes! I HATE those Empire figures (and most new ones). My giant Empire army is 4th-6th models. I'm happy to report their Elector Count could afford shoes for all of them.
