I think you get much more out of warhammer when you can think clearly and implement the most effective plan of battle.
40k Is serious and tactical if you let it become so, by becoming another game altogether!
I have played drunk, Bloodbowl was a go to game for tabletop drunken escapades, but that become serious business so 40k became a staple of table flipping, model crushing, beer spilling and general insanity. Dice were swallowed to prevent results being seen, nurglings spawned from ass cracks. new off table artillery strikes were improvised by throwing pizza slices onto the board....
I think tourneys should operate this way.....
Completely forgot about blood bowl...that must be the best game to play hammered, no pun intended (well maybe).
It can be fun downing shots everytime there is a fumble, intercepted pass. touchdown, successful blitz......
Mostly it gets super competitive.
40k and beer are made for each other. Automatically Appended Next Post: Bluetau wrote:Not hammered but I deal with severe anxiety and I find playing while im on my klonopin helps as I am ultra relaxed and less stressed.

I reckon it helps you even ask for a game... Is Klonopin an SSRI?

Beerhammer, drunk or not, is honestly the best way to play. A long time ago, back at the tail end of 4th, I was at the home of one of the guys from my game club. We were using bottlecaps for wound counters, which led to someone saying "My Carnifex took another wound, somebody get a beer!" and it was a ton of fun. Narrative scenarios with a couple drinks rule.

Man look out that crap is dangerous, it is worse than Heroin by far. You do too much or too long, prepare for 3+ months withdrawals from hell and believe me, your current anxiety is nothing compared to artificial one you have when your relax hormones are depleted and not producing. I know people destroyed by benzos before their age of 30. Try to withstand on your own, don't learn to count on fast reliefs - it never works in the long run.
Dundas wrote:
If you're having a few beers whilst playing I can recommend Apocalypse games as better than normal 40k, given that you'll probably have more players around the table and Apoc is fundementally a bit silly anyway
I'd also agree 40K is much more fun if you approach it as a 'beer and pretzels' game (regardless of whether you drink or not) rather than a hard core strategy game which personally I don't think it's very well designed as.
Yeh 4 hours long beer and pretzels game with 100 + pages rulebook, sounds like a drastic waste of time. If you don't use tactics or strategy then it hardly makes any sense, having everything prepared for a tactical turn based battle but playing a game of cinematics and chance instead.
Btw since when being laid back and using your brain are exclusive?

You can't be serious. Are you drunk right now?
What's wrong with his aproach? "Nah beer pretzels"? Beer and pretzels are fast, easy and cheap games not 40k, this argument serves mainly for excusing GW doing a poor job at balancing the game or providing tactical possibilities within their rules.

so how you play is you get your beer of choice.
sit down with 3 of tour friends and a copy of mario cart. any one will do N64 or wii what ever.
so when the race starts each lap you need to finish a beer, but heres the catch, you need to pull over to the side of the track and stop and drink, you know because you dont want to drink and drive. now you can chug it all at once or do a little bit at a time, but remember you can drink and drive.

Pounding back some brewskis while you play Warhammer is a must. Not enough to send you falling down stairs that don't exist, but just enough to talk smack about your friends pink Termis being a sign he isn't manly enough to walk them toward your Dark Lances.
Then gobbling down sick amounts of chinese food and reflecting on how awesome the game was!

Me and the guys often dedicate 2 Saturdays out of the month when we are all together and undeployed to warhammer and we drink beer and eat pizza and hang out. Its nice because we are casual so we can agree to take a break and play halo or something and hang out. While thuroughly gakfaced I've never tried I've been pretty drunk. I just worry about peoples clumsyness

Especially if you're a Space Wolves player, what better way to get into character for a narrative then pound a few ales back. Hell half the SW are drunk by the time they get into combat anyway

I drink so seldom as to be almost a non-drinker. I can usually count the number of drinks I have in a years time on one hand and have fingers left over. I can't honestly recall the last time I was remotely intoxicated. So no, I have never done this and would never play in a game were one or more of the participants was drunk enough to effect their behavior/judgement.
I used to play in a D&D group were the DM permitted the players to drink if they liked. (it was his house and he was the host, so his rules...) It was fine for the first hour or two, but invaribly one or two of the players (the same two or three offenders) would eventually get so sh-- faced falling down drunk that they could barely roll dice. It brought the entire game to a stand still. Needless to say I eventually had to quit that group.
Thus the rule s now "if you are at Trenchie's house for a wargame or RPG, no drinking at the table.".

Heheh, might I just say... Great post, original poster. Also .... Shroomhammer??? OMG that sounds like the most terrifyingly confusing game ever imagined. Hell, I can barely remember my new CSM codex changes at the best of times. And in my younger years under that influence, it's been known for me to take an hour to put a Kinder Egg together :S
But yes, have to say Beerhammer is the bomb. Now the rest of my mates have all got kids, Beerhammer is probably the best way to catch up with my friends. 1 in particular. But be warned.... Doesn't always go well. depending on how much beer you have in the house and how crazy it gets. Uncharacteristic arguments have been known to sprout from nothing.
Mostly we have an Apocalypse Saturday, when he can get away from the family and crash over at mines. But a full on Saturday of apocalypse action and beer & smokes, is awesome! Waaay better than hitting the pubs and throwing all your money at a pub landlord. (Same reason why we started having poker nights for my less Nerdy mates. Way more fun, cheaper and one of you walks home with all the cash).
Planning on visiting the GW Mecca in a fortnight for the Battle Brothers event, where... allegedly they serve beer!! However it has been known apparently for some of my more Tournament Knowledgable friends to throw games once they knew they were losing so they could hit up the bar.
Strangely though my alcohol intollerant friend pointed out that my rolling seems to exponentially improve after a few beers. "Needs me spinach" I believe his words were. Go figure.

Brilliant topic mate.
I'd say 80% of my games are imbibed with a little tipple.
Whether that tipple becomes a torrent is entirle on who I'm playing and what mood we might be in. Some games are serious as hell even with a few on, others descend into "grab that unit and hurl it at that landraider" type stuff.
As long as you and your co-players know its gonna be alcohol fueled and easy going - who gives a flying?

Only played while i was baked out of my mind; although it was fun, coming down and getting really tired afterwards while the game was only half over wasn't.

This man knows what he's talking about. This sounds like a great way to play Mariokart. A game I don't normally enjoy. On Beerhammer though, I have played once: we quit partway through once the first model became damaged (it wasn't bad, just didn't want to take chances). A beer or two during would be okay though: just no gulps of beer for each dead model/shot for each destroyed unit.
