I was wondering what the best close combat weapon the space marines have. Weapon plus special rules, rules why its good etc. There is no exact reason behind this post, I would like to know which weapon kicks ass the most.

I think he means the Codex. I may be wrong but maybe not.

Codex Space Marines- For me its a toss between Relic Blades and Thunderhammers. I personally prefer Relic Blades. Strike at Int and Str 6 for me trumps Str 8, Unwieldy.

Space Wolves- Probably Frost Axe. Axes are cool and these are, to me, One handed Relic Blades with AP2 and Unwieldy. Unless you put them on a ThunderWolf, then they are better.

Blood Angels- Have to go with Thunder Hammer. Power Spears come second, with most of the army having a posssibility of Furious Charge, Str 9 is nasty. And can pen AV 14.

Dark Angels- Flail of Unforgiven. Like a Relic Blade, but concussive and AP2 vs CSM.

Black Templers- Black Sword. Because Awesome name.

Grey Knights- Have to go Titansword. Because Str 10 vs Daemons and zpsykers.

Stop tempting me, you and your P&M blog are pushing me to blow money on that goddamn book.

Me i really like the wolf claw, being able to choose what you re-roll can make quite a big difference sometimes and it just feels right watching wolf claw armed terminators tear things apart.

My Captain agrees. He has a double-ended polearm with chainswords on either end, Darth Maul style.

force staff? my terminator librarian(w/ SS) carries it and most of the time I give him Might of the Ancients, so he is str8 and roll 2d6 for armour penetration... I say vehicle killer!
also standard str6 is quite good, so all power/force mauls/staffs are good for me!
as for looks, I'd pick the mighty thunder hammer, great thing it is!
and well, lets not forget our good ol' friend the lightning claw, a group of LC termies can rip up ANYTHING that is no vehicle

Anything except for something with a 2+ save.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Overall, I'm gonna say the Chainsword. Cheap, efficient and strong.

Plasma pistol x2, because then you can shoot people to death instead of hitting them with a sword.

(Yes, it's a CCW.)

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I like the Halberd of Caliban, +2S/AP2/AP1 v. Chaos Marines. That or the Lion's Roar, because it's a combi-plasma-cannon.

That's the black sword and we know you took it

Edit-seriously though, in 5th I would have said the thunder hammer b/c the vehicle result on hit and the reducing to initiative 1 were great, but now that 6th edition made it easier to hit vehicles then I would say that the chainfist is ascendant if you're not too worried about close combat HQs from the enemy

I think a better question is, what CC weapon would you recommend for non-Astartes? IE, Imperial Guard and Sororitas HQ characters? /onatangent/

The best combo would be chainfist / LC I'd say.

As a CSM, I'll always go with an AoBF.

TH/SS.

On a Terminator because you pay as much for the wargear on an MEQ as you'd pay for a CC Term with TH/SS.

I hate to say it, but I think one of the best CC weapons the Space Marine (the generic Space Marine anyhow) is the krak grenade. As long as they aren't in Terminator armor, they all get them, and for many of them (all the ones that only get a single attack, at any rate) the grenade becomes a free +2 Str upgrade in CC.

It may not be flashy or super, but it comes in super handy.

That being said, TH/SS is the business. Dirty, underhanded, murderous business.

Especially for C:SM and their very cheap terminators.

C: SM Either the Relic blade or Power Maul. Both are str 6 and strike at normal initiative. 1 ( the power maul) has worse AP but makes up for it by being able to get an extra attack from an additional CC weapon and reducing wounded enemies to I1

C: BA Probably Blood Talons. 1 of the Best Anti-horde CC weapons there are...

C: CSM Black Mace for Horde-killing goodness (especially on a raging Daemon Prince) or Murder Sword for extreme Assassination...

How about the best CC weapon available to non-imperials?

My vote goes to the Warscythe: S:+2(7) AP:1 Armourbane. Strikes at initiative, just before TH/SS
