Mantic has the production models, it's just a matter of showing them. Where does the misinformation that they don't have any come from? Wishful thinking or something?

As soon as we've got the production miniatures in-house, we'll post a picture of them. As far as I'm aware they're not here yet. Unless I'm wrong! Which I might well be. I'll check it in the morning, most people have gone home now.

To be fair, both of these were posted last week. So instead of a couple pages saying "Mantic is dumb I want my moneyz back!!" has anyone actually, y'know, emailed James or anyone, and asked about it?

So, clearly Mantic promised pictures. We can agree on that point. Clearly they have failed to deliver on that promise up to now. We should be able to agree on that. So, should it be the customer's responsibility to beg and pester for something that was promised? Or could part of the recent drop in the Mars Attacks project be a way customers are expressing displeasure?

Wow, this has gotten dark.

Still happily awaiting my terrain. I'll get a view of all of the actual models from another local buddy who kept his Strike pledge. Our local area has already started a Deadzone group because the rules look pretty fun. Time will tell but I'm not gonna get any more up in arms than that. The models will be here in less than 60 days so why sweat it at this point.

So you know that the production minis being flown in have actually arrived, and Mantic is specifically "failing to deliver on that promise"? Well, if you have been to Mantic HQ and seen the box of production minis they've stashed away, why didn't you say something?
Or, if you don't actually know, and you're just assuming... well, maybe it's still en route. Or maybe they just got it.

I don't know about Mars Attacks, I had no interest in backing it, really. (other than terrain)

Man, I'm glad my buddies are looking forward to my birthday arriving, instead of screaming at me that I have failed to deliver on the promise of my birthday up to now. This thread is insane.

Honestly, I've just moved on. No big deal, and plenty of other companies who are willing to show their stuff. Mantic will only notice when their campaigns start to do more poorly, and if people have the money to keep throwing cash at their campaigns with models sight-unseen, more power to them! I don't, however, and I have no interest in discussing it further until they have something to show. I really wish this thread would just go down the front page until there's something real to report, because Mantic isn't worth talking about in the interim imo.

/back to looking at offerings from other companies who will actually show their models.

What I know (not assume) is that if they could approve the production minis and yet not get pictures, they failed at some level. If they could not get a set delivered within a week, they have failed. Those are not assumptions. They are evidence of failures at some level. Perhaps it was failing to correctly prioritize, perhaps it was failure to plan, perhaps it was failure promise only what you could deliver. Frankly I don't don't care which it was. They have indeed failed to deliver on the promise. Anything short of delivering pictures is a failure, the reasons for that failure may be unknown. The failure to deliver is not unknown.

I do so enjoy being characterized as so unintelligent as your comment portrays me to be since I'm the only person to have made the overt request for a refund at this time. Thank you.

And yes, if you actually bother to read the rest of the thread that you have contributed to and to the kickstarter as well, you would see that multiple posts have been made requesting production shots. Certainly, we have been promised pictures "as soon as we have them" but the ship appears to be moving faster than the airplane carrying the samples. This and the unexplained inconsistencies in Mantic staff visiting, the manufacturer and returning relatively empty-handed with the miraculous completion of a manufacturing run of restic models that were not read whence was present a mere two weeks prior. This and the process to fill an order for shipment by, well ship would have taken sufficient time for at least a few models to have reached mantic well in advance of the ship actually having left port; that is unless of course they are truly as incompetent as to have not asked the manufacturer for production models off of the initial runs OR they are up to their old tricks. Yes, I should wear a tinfoil hat, I'm being completely unreasonable.

I have communicated with Mantic staff recently and was assured that the leopard had changed its spots but inconsistencies make me wary.

Other than the two Mantic kickstarters, I've backed one other miniature kickstarter, Dreamforge Games. Though marred by delays, the founder and one man operator, Mark, has been with backers every step of the way throughout the process and his primary goal from day one has been delivering a quality product. He's done that in spades and in plastic, not restic. In my opinion Dreamforge should be the poster child for how a miniature kickstarter is run. Pick up a box of eisenkern infantry or a leviathan and prepare to be impressed (the darn thing uses screws to be assembled for goodness sake!).

I've backed Dreamforge as well but only wave 3 stuff. Going to be honest here, it's a year later and I still have no idea of when my stuff will be produced or shipped or even more renders of the assault troopers/heavy weapons. As it is, it's not going out this year, probably won't be out in Q1 of 2014 either because if it should have been produced before Chinese new year, there should have been news by now. Not a great feeling. You may like it because maybe you got something in wave 1 or 2 and the delay's not as great for you. But for someone who's only BACKED wave 3, this sucks

I can certainly see you having an issue there. I just had items in waves 1 and 2. If you already haven't done so, I recommend that you communicate with Mark; I've found him to be very responsive.

If a substantial number of your backers for Mars Attacks want to see unboxing photos of deadzone, then you figure out how to have your factory overnight a box to HQ and take photos. You make it happen.

I can't believe a production sample was not in the hands of mantic the second it came out of the mold.

Many of us can't suspend disbelief on this whole 'no time to photo the greens before the go to china' and 'no time to take photos of the production casts before they hit retail.' It may be 'legitimate' but it doesn't make sense and confuses people. And on a business model which relies on faith and consistent track records, that is not a good thing.

I ordered some mecha kit parts from China. Paid for them last... Thursday night I think it was - so effectively Friday. Paid all of $16 for DHL. They've already left the PRC and are moving through HK. I expect they'll be here by the end of the week.

Just sayin'...

This is a fair point. While Mark/DFG has done very well on the quality of the finished product and ongoing communication, the delays are rather over the top at this stage, and I find no fault in any backers who have grown disheartened with that campaign at this point.

Right guys, production miniatures. Sorry to let the conspiracies build up again - as I'm sure you can imagine I've been crazy busy!

These components are just straight out of the bag, no work done.

These miniatures have been assembled, with mould lines removed, and the five on the left have been primed with grey spray to matt them down and show the detail better. The ones on the right are bare plastic, for comparison purposes.

Thoughts?

Glorious first gen! The Marauder looks amazing... the enforcer captain... so good. The new material looks as good as it did in the pics of the season 3 dreadball stuff, seems to be really crisp detail. All reservations gone now.

Also don't forget the mats with the rebel model:

So all Deadzone plastics will be cast of this newer mix with none being done in the older material?

All deadzone "restics" will be cast with this new restic formula - the bulk of the models. The "Plastics" such as the terrain and some of the kits coming in wave 2 will be "Hard Plastic".

James, no complaints here and I've been a very vocal naysayer. Thank you for sharing the pictures of the production miniatures. If all of the models are the same quality, I'll be extremely satisfied and can put the whole KoW experience behind me. The final proof will be in next month's "pudding" but I feel very much more comfortable now having seen some of the product before it lands on my doorstep.

Thanks again.

That's six of our 2'x2' Deadzone mats, modelled by the lovely Andrew. The joy of them is that due to their non-slip construction, they won't shift around during gameplay, and you don't need to use any clips or anything.

I'm afraid that due to health and safety concerns, we can't include pudding in orders. Sad times.

Thanks James, this thread was starting to give me a migraine. Or at least a bigger one than usual.

Btw guys there are reasonably sci-fi ish looking truck minis in the Mars Attacks Ks for $12.50 / £7.77 (once the stacked discount and bundles are added up). And they're bigger than GW Rhinos by 25mm.

I'll be using some for general deadzone scatter terrain as civilian vehicles.

Well I like those, the big Plague model is the thing that attracted me to this game and it looks great.

I'm almost tempted to buy the box direct from mantic in this pre release thingy, but I would prefer to give my local shop the business if possible, so I guess I'll be getting it next year.
