$25 for 10 single pose board game plastic minis? I dunno that I'll be buying any more. Arent the gw IG kits still 30 or 35? With all of the options... but then again nobody is telling me to make an army of the ma models, just seem a bit up there.

$25 for 10 is the standard price for Mantic restic, which is pretty much single pose anyway.

The 10 different minis do have 10 different sculpts though. So yes, they're one-piece, but there's still plenty of variety there.

I've already got all the Mars Attacks I want for now, looks like I got at least $200 worth of retail product for $15.. which is rather nuts. Best Mantic KS ever!

I also have an issue with the price per mini. However, if the material is as fun as I hope, then I'll probably swoop on some MA troops when they hit the deep discounts.

I don't necessarily consider them overpriced so much as not priced to fly off the shelves. People will buy them if they have s specific like/need/want, and I'm sure mantic will deploy sets and army deals that further sweeten the deal.

It seems like having them fly off the shelf might give a lot more mainstream gamers the opportunity to see the joy in an IP they might otherwise have no interest in.

That pricing is pretty OTT for what is essentially army men in boardgame plastic. It's like they want those sales to fail. I only "care" in that it's a bad move for Mantic - I'm hardly personally butthurt about figures I won't ever buy being overpriced at retail...

The IG kits don't give you all the options in fact they give you barely any...

The Cadian kit gives you a grenade launcher, flamer and voxcaster as options.

The catachan one doesn't even bother with the launcher.

I don't particularly see the issue - as it stands, 10 models for $25/£15 actually costs less than the Dreadball equivalent (same price for 8), and these are licensed.

It costs less than other comparable skirmish/wargame squads that I can recall, is comparable with small boardgame expansions, and is also less than a lot of other licensed merchandise/figurines I see around Forbidden Planet and the like! People like to spend money there...

Lastly, this is the RRP - I routinely see Mantic stuff for a fair chunk less than the RRP, either bundled on their own site or on sale at retail. A low RRP gives less room for downwards movement - whether or not it's a good idea, I can easily see the reasons for wanting to start high even if you end up low.

Yeah, its best to see mantic a bit like DVD sales. Sure, you could buy a film at full RRP direct from Warner Brothers website. Or a game at RRP straight from EA Origin, but who honestly would do that?

Nah, most of the time, you'd buy it from elsewhere for varying degrees less(and a lot less in mantics case) except maybe once in a blue moon when there's an awesome sale on, or maybe a bundle deal...

Unlike, say GW, who are trying to make life as difficult as possible to buy stuff anywhere else...

I must have been thinking tactical squad boxes or something. I just have several guardsman bits laying around but you are correct now that I think about it..

I guess I should consider a couple three bucks towards the manticase you'd get with that box too. $4 separately so that's a consideration.

Finally got around to submitting my second survey for DZ. Between myself, my gaming group and a couple chaps who I know who wanted in, the damage is rather substantial.

Oh my, 100 pound box incoming?

I think my final lock-down will be reasonably tame, though probably still a few hundred dollars if I go in for all of the AW goodies. Mostly just want a couple more fortification sets (they're pretty spiffy!) to go with my 2 incoming ruin zones, and maybe one or two bundles of that new sprue they made. Obviously, all of the hard plastic kits in one volume or another, and bogo striders... at least 3 packs of those lol. Maybe the goblin walker, might just get a iron ancestor retail or ebay and upgrade him myself.

I wonder if I should submit another mars attacks survey since I never got a confirmation... I'm pretty sure I moved it around to perfection last time, and I'm not sure if I wrote my final tally down anywhere. I would hate to second guess and mess up what was probably my ideal selections, but I would also hate to get a message from them asking if I *really* wanted to donate 350 dollars to the, or if it would even just get defaulted to the one-click.

Yeah, shipping is going to be a beast on it. I keep looking at the new terrain sprue and just haven't done it yet.

Personally, I'm getting:
Spoiler:

AI Cards
6 Booster Bundles (one of each)
Ast/FF Starter
2 Boxes of Plague Zombies
Collector's Compendium (Free)
Connector Bundle
Corp Strider (just 1)
Female Enforcer on Bike
Boomer, Chovar, Helfather and the named Characters Bundle
Peacekeepers (5)
Plague Enforcer
Sorak with Knives
Landing Pad / Fort
Enforcer with Thermal/Fusion

Then there's everyone else's stuff.

I'm really happy with the terrain - so I got more of that.

The miniatures are really hit or miss for me, but I did pick up some of the "Real" Resin walkers - couldn't resist!

And sadly I haven't got a game of Deadzone in yet, so no idea if I like the game or not.

But that terrain!

Very nice!

Really? Omg, that's horrible.

I really like the rules and the game. Fast paced and fun. If you were any nearer, I'd offer to demo for you.

Runnin up on ya.

The rules are fine as long as you agree to nerf massive frag and frag down to sane levels. The way they stand in the book, you can hit a 1/6 of the board with one mortar and just lock everything down each turn.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Has there been any word on whether they are going to change that? We haven't had any lists with frag / massive frag other than grenades/teratons so far (models are pending second wave).

That's good, he was asked about it before and just replied with a terse, "I'll change it if it needs to be changed." This probably means that the cards we have now will have to be tossed or we can write the additional rules on them as long as it's defined who gets them.

Yeah, looks like that was around January (same page) and then he said about a month later that he was going to change it (after he had played a couple games against those lists).

Glad frag is getting nerfed. Haven't even played yet, and it read as highly overpowered. It was interfering with my making grenade launchers useful for Deadzone 40k ; p

I just realized that the only good deal on the second survey is the walkers, everything else will be cheaper through discounted retail.

Witness, $19.99 deluxe mats:
http://www.miniaturemarket.com/mgdzm05-1.html

With the regular price being a penny cheaper than the survey.

This just made 2nd survey choice(s) really simple.

^ That's not even close to being accurate. The savings on stuff like the booster bundles are huge.

Yeah, the Booster Bundles are freakin' ridiculously good savings. They wind up being like $25 each (if you buy two), I think the Marauder one is something like $80-$90 MSRP.

and zombies. Going by current zombie pricing you can get 60 zombies for $60 MSRP (or 30 for $34.99 MSRP), space zombies on the survey are 80 for $45.

Even the mat example posted you save via quantity (like I did, I bought three extras for $55 on first survey, still cheaper than Mini Market)

characters/heros/mercs may not be much of a discount, but random stuff like the Resin Crates are $10 on survey, MSRP is $20 (so $16 at Mini Market)

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke

The boosters on Miniature Market are $15.99 for Corporation, $15.99 for little plague guys and $19.99 for the big plague guys. So, same price as the survey but the bundles on the survey would be a better value if you need all of them.

I didn't consider the zombies because I have a ton of generic zombies if I every need to use any from my VC army; sure they're not necessarily sci-fi but it's hard to justify painting another zombie horde....

The BOGOs were a great deal on the 1st survey but there's nothing that I really need on the second that I can't pick up at discount retail later on (i.e. mercs, vehicles).

Faction starters are $27.99 @ MM; and they're $35 on the survey.

I just can't see buying all that more, it's a board game/ skirmish game, not a grand table-top huge army game...at least not to me anyway.

With the crates, getting some more accessory sprues instead works well... gives you 2 crates per sprue, plus a bunch of other stuff.

That's the route I'm taking anyway, accessory sprue crates then just paint the icons underneath... the resin ones are pretty good, but can also be a bit light and fiddly.

Great idea.

Still a great deal on the survey, the Scenery packs are $31.99 @MM.
That's 4 core-world sprues, an accessory sprue and a connector sprue. That's a battlezone, right? So, $25 for battlezones on the survey and $31.99 at discounted retail.

They've got Nexus Psi up for preorder at $15.99.

Acrylic counters for $15.99 vs. survey @ $20.
Acrylic Plague counters for $6.39 not on survey
Resin Equipment crates for $15.99 not on survey
Rulebook for $15.99 vs. $10 on survey.

If recon unt N32 is any indicator, discount retail will be quite a bit cheaper than the survey. $8 on survey and $6.39 at MM. With a $7.99 MSRP, so the survey is MSRP. for mercs and I'm going to assume big stuff too.

An odd thing I noticed. The marauder vehicle is a separate item at MM for $15.99 and the other faction boosters don't match the survey. I wonder if this is a KS thing or what we can expect later. I can't imagine needing more than the 2 that I have from the booster bundle but thought I'd point that out if people are fence sitting. The bundles are probably the best deal on the survey at BOGO.

^ The DZ set of acrylics is both the regular counters and the plague counters.

If you buy 2 marauder booster bundles in the survey that's $174 RRP of stuff for $50.

Booster bundles, striders and hard plastics are the thing to go for, and that alt sculpt survivor if you want.

Get Chovar from DBX rather than tearing your hair out trying to assemble the metal one.
