I'm pretty sure that there's a new definition for Azazelx'ing now.

It used to just be about threatening to pull your pledge, multiple times, during a campaign, and it might have actually resulted in you pulling your pledge.

Now, it is more about being really sure about something, and if you're not, you drop down to the minimum so you can get the pledge manager invite.

Then, IF things look better after the campaign is over, when there's been time to make 'production' minis and take pictures of them, you're good to go.

If not, you've only lost a little bit of money.

Usually.

I think.

Nah, Azazelx'ing a campaign is the negotiation tactic of threatening to pull your pledge. As it was, so it is and always shall be...or something.

The concept you mention is a solid one though; perhaps we could find some other notable KS savant who does that? Hulksmash perhaps? Bobbing the Inquisitor on them? Wait...that just sounds dirty, which...given the poster involved....

Hopefully! The Warpath universe is about as unappealing as sci-fi settings get for me. However, decent hard plastic enforcers would at least get me to take a look at the game.

I've personally never been too concerned about background to games, but I have enjoyed the beta 2.0 rules and I'm looking forward to getting Mantic Hard Plastic style deals. The hard plastic Enforcers ship in October for us Deadzone backers, the space zombies look good, and the hard plastic Forge Father dudes should be showing up shortly.

Wrong.

Azazelx'ing means...

OK, it means many things to many people - so you're not wrong!

Many times, just staying in for a dollar is the smart play...

Well currently Warpath has neither a background or miniatures that interest me. The space zombies do look fine, and I am definitely looking forward to seeing the hard plastic Enforcers.

You realise that's exactly what I've meant whenever I've said "pull my pledge"?

I've only ever completely pulled out from one - that was Prodos' AVP.

I find it a bit bland, personally. Then again, I don't have the energy or inclination to immerse or invest myself in yet another new sci-fi universe. I just hope they have as many easy 40k-analogues as possible, so I can use my existing toy soldiers with a less cluster fethed set of rules, a la KoW.

At this point I wish I had dropped that one.

Why? I haven't followed it at all since they pissed me off for whatever reason that it was.

I just had a read. Big delays, miscommunication and the first tiles came back looking like donkey. Minis look great though.

(I pulled my AvP pledge too)

There's a significant delay, they've changed a few things about the cardboard components (no grid now) after the fact, and the quality of the board tiles shown thus far looks... disappointing.

Communications are also less than awesome. Prodos are claiming that that is due to Fox licensing conditions.
I consider that pretty plausible (I've seen some ridiculously restrictive conditions w.r.t. products where image and perception of quality, as well as consistency, weren't half as important) but nevertheless, it's not the prettiest KS to be in on atm.
I have about 200 quid in on it now and I'd sort of like to slap down 140 quid more for the terrain when they reopen the PM, but the way it's going now I'm kind of reticent to.

Thing with the delay is that this was a KS where the creators claimed a pretty 'set' delivery date. The pricing kind of makes a lot of us less inclined to cut them some slack on that. I mean, the value is there, but it's not an insane steal in any way, shape or form. Take that together with the way communications, as mentioned, haven't been optimal, and I can understand why people are regretting getting in on it.

My Wave 2 delivery just arrived, very happy with the plague zombies and the ruins battlezones. The Resin Rebs Commander is rather spiffy also.

My buddy uses his 40k Rogue Trader / 2nd edition era Orks in Warpath and they work just fine

I've go so many armies that while I do pine for giant piles of cheap excellent sci fi plastics, I'm more concerned with Warpath doing incredibly well and having market penetration so I'll have more than a handful of players in my local group.

Not really sci-fi specific but are many others having issues with the "new" offiicial Mantic forums? Seems a bit knackered to me.

As others have mentioned, big delays (I can kind of accept though they annoy me), piss poor comms (which sets me off) and now the move away from a grid for the board game coupled with their poor comms makes me very much wonder how they are going to clearly and concisely handle things like LOS and cover in the board game. When they say that during a play test it took over an hour for the two sides to even make contact and then blame that on use of a grid I start to suspect their ability to design rules and scenarios. When they decide to make figures with even the smallest base bigger than the size of the grid they chose to use, and then blame the grid for issues (and the solution being ditch the grid), I suspect their ability to design a good boardgame is not what I was hoping it would be.

I know the figures will be nice (though wonder at how well they will handle QC on such a large run of resin figures), but I was very much wanting the cool AVP boardgame.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Also, some of the 'updates' have actually been more damaging than had they said nothing at all!

The first notice about the grid was not being used was something like "we've decided to print the terrain pieces without a grid", without anything else in way of explanation. Leading you to wonder whether you were meant to use the length of your forearm instead?!

As CptJake says, leaves you with absolutely no confidence in their ability to design a good set of rules for a boardgame, and in fact an information blackout might have been preferable in that at least we would have been blissful in our ignorance. The taste of Sedition Wars is still fresh in the mouth..

@judgedoug, funny you should say that - the first Mantic Orks reminded me a lot of the early Rogue Trader design, although the latest Deadzone minis have definitely taken things in a different direction.

Please explain what you mean. I don't understand.

Pledging a single dollar is how I've participated in Deadzone, Mars Attacks, DBX and now DS. But I tend to add money on the pledge manager, so Stewart still talks to me.

I am not interested in a game with space orcs, space dwarves, space elves, and space ratmen. Having the humans be the "bad buys" is mildly interesting, but the setting is just fantasy in space, and I am much more interested in settings in which technology feels like it plays a big part in the world. I want a setting where space faring races aren't still using rivets to hold stuff together and wearing tunics.

I don't get a chance to play very often, so while I could (maybe?) make up some sort of warpath list for my AT43 Karmans (Oh my word do I love those guys), I am still left with no one to play, and nothing interesting to read about the universe to inspire me, so I am basically back at the same spot I started. So interesting fluff and interesting models weigh a little bit more heavily into my enjoyment of any given system than others that can get in a regular game.

Typing all of this out just made me sad for AT43. Never played the game, but that was an interesting universe with interesting races and interesting miniatures (actually some very decent prepaints on some of the line with very solid sculpts).

AT-43 is one of my favorite games of all time. Started buying it when it first came out and there's still about a half dozen of us in my gaming group that have armies/play occasionally. We did the Damocles campaign in 2012, it was a blast. AT-43 has some of the tightest rules, best fiction, and by the second wave of releases, nicest models. I've got like 6000 points of UNA and the same of Therians, my brother has at least that much in Red Blok and about 3000-4000 in Oni, and we have two Karman, another UNA, another Therian, and a Cog player. If Mantic's Warpath KS is super ridiculous and cements it as a viable option to 40k and WM:H, I'd love to bust out my AT-43 dudes just to get them on the table more than they currently do.

This, all of this. Alas, alas for AT43!

Sorry for sidetracking all of this, I'm off to go mope in a corner.

It's worth picking up the Deadzone: Containment Protocols short story novel (I think you can get it for an ebook quite cheaply). It gives you a far better feel for the games universe and where Mantic wants to go with the games universe, than a quick glance at the model range would show you.

Basically, think more Alien/Wayland-Yutani meets Firefly, than say, a game set in the 41st Millennium.

I may take a look, but unless the book ends with a giant cataclysm wiping out the space Orks, space dwarves, space elves, and space ratmen, I will likely be disappointed. Actually a book in which four races got wiped from the four corners of the universe would likely be a very interesting read. My expectations aside, I do appreciate the recommendation.

And yet we get smiling dancing orks and goblins using riveted tech items to populate our table top representation of this universe. Sorry, in my opinion, if the figures are what people see, on store shelves and in web stores, THAT ends up providing the tone for the game universe, not some fan fiction that Mantic decides to publish as an E-book.

We agree! Background aside, I'm just hoping for a widely played generic sci fi ruleset that allows the use of alternate manufacturers so I can bring an army of Urban Mammoth's Viridians into a store to play a game against someone and not have it be a problem.

So I just realized that I've spent ~$800 on the Deadzone kickstarter between my initial pledge and the two surveys...

So much money for a game I've only played three times :/

I spent quite a bit myself, though with a huge chunk of it being on the scenery, I'm good with it.

Now if they'd only send me my stuff sometime...
