Posted in response when I asked if the DF kits would be at Williamsburg Muster gaming con (Feb 1-3)

"I have 5 boxes of DreamForge kits for display only. When manufacture and shipment to our warehouse is completed ALL Kickstarter supporters will be sent their kits. After that process is completed the DreamForge kits will then be posted on our web store for purchase. Then shipments to Wargames Factory customers will begin. As soon as the kits are available on our web store I will be able to share additional information with our forum members.
To answer the unasked question; soon, very soon shipments will begin to Kickstarter supporters. I love being able to show everyone at conventions the kits! They are great!"

Jim Goss @ Wargames Factory. So this weekend I'll take a bunch of pics of the 5 kits on display at Williamsburg Muster and post them for everyone to see.

In a van down by the river

New update from Mark on the KS:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dreamforge-games/something-wicked-this-way-comes-crusader-plastic-m/posts/395637

A very interesting tidbit for some people:

A note to our backers down under (Australia as well as the Pacific Rim, Asia):
We found that we could ship to this zone direct from Hong Kong at nearly the same cost of shipping from the US Your orders were sent Hong Kong Post direct to help speed your delivery. Customers in those regions will receive a tracking number next week, sent by Wargames Factory and should receive your kits at about the same time that the US customers receive theirs. The UK and EU backers could not be shipped this method due to the postal costs.

While I derive no benefit from it, I think that's really cool of them to look out for people who are historically, ahem, overlooked by other companies in this market.

10 inches of snow can paralyse a city. It took Montreal 10 days to clear that much snow, and you'd think we'd be used to it.

It's a good move on their part to take care of Australian/New Zealanders (are they same people?) in such a way.

Say what you will about our Chinese overlords, our lives are comfortable...

Australian/New Zealanders English/Scottish=four nationalities is is best not to lump together Although I must admit, I would love to go to a pub with the entire group at once...heh

Any resemblance of this post to written English is purely coincidental.

You could throw the Irish in there for a real party. Joking aside, it's nice when "saving money" and "customer service" align that nicely.

Now, about some WIP Black Widows...

Special shipping for Aus is sweet and a nice contrast to folks down there usually paying out the nose and waiting longer for stuff to boot.

Almost sounds like the start of a joke

Less kidding aside, anyone here on dakka that can drive an eighteen wheeler living in Utah? If it doesn't move quick I may have found something to do with my three day weekend this week.

A Scotsman, an Englishman, and an Irishman meet in a bar while traveling."Y'know" said the Scotsman, "I still prefer the pubs back home. In Glasgow, there's a wonderful little bar called McTavish's. The landlord there goes out of his way for the locals, so much that when you buy 4 drinks he'll buy the 5th drink for you.""Well," said the Englishman, "at my local, the Red Lion, the barman there will buy your 3rd drink after you buy the first 2.""Ahhhhh, that's nothing, laddies," said the Irishman."Back home in me own Dublin, there's Ryan's Bar. Now, the moment you set foot in the place they'll buy you a drink, then another, all the drinks you like. Then, when, when you've had enough drinks, they'll take you upstairs and see that you get laid All on the house."The Englishman and Scotsman immediately scorn the Irishman's claims. But he swears every word is true."Well," said the Englishman, "did this actually happen to you?""Not to me meself, personally, no," said the Irishman... "but it did happen to me sister."

Yes, it was all in jest. I couldn't resist.

My brother can drive one of those beasts, if he were in the area, I'm sure he'd welcome a little bit of extra cash. He ain't, though.

When we first looked at it, it was just a few dollars more to ship from HK but we decided it was a nice gesture for a country that usually gets over charged and overlooked. Soon after we found out about the USPS increase and we actually saved a few dollars... nice when it comes together like that. Just so you know, we did run the numbers again for everywhere but the US to make sure that we could not add more countries to the list. I think that we had one order from Dubai that was added but the EU/UK still was not within reach.

We do what we can

Not only a Ren and Stimpy fan but a top bloke/company that goes the extra mile. Glad it worked out well for you too with the postage price increase, though that'll still be a problem for other areas I imagine.

Does the GW comparison need to be made? I'll just assume people know it. If we cringe away from you Mark, it's only because we've been treated so harshly by our former master. Whipped dog syndrome and all that.

edit: Do you have an ETA for when they'll arrive for us, and will they be signed for? Not sure if HK post offers that... everything I've had from them has been door drops.

The update mentionned same time as the backers in the US, so since it should start shipping next week, you can estimate how fast joey-mail gets it to ya.

I certainly think he's beholden to them, but not in a "you have to design this for us by next week" kinda way.

I imagine his relationship with WGF is one mutual convenience. Mark doesn't have to worry about tooling/production which is beyond his ability as a one-man show, and WGF doesn't have to worry about designs which is a very tricky thing to get "just right." WGF doesn't ream Mark to create the tooling (a non-trivial expense), but likely retains the rights to those tools so Mark basically has to give them their cut of their process which figures to be fairly substantial given that they're also using their distribution chain. However, Mark can offer a very compelling product, and WGF has things in production on their machines making them money. A very good partnership on paper.

While it has the potential for WGF to be abusive to Mark and essentially make him an employee, doing so would essentially be cutting their own throats as being "borged" would likely not improve the quality of DFG's designs. Lower quality designs turns into lower sales figures, which would defeat the point of acquiring the brand. The bad blood such a scenario would create among the (comparatively small) miniatures community wouldn't be good either, especially combined with the how WGF became essentially a Chinese company in the first place.

Some companies might not operate like dfG-Wgf do and make very bone-headed business decisions for short-term gains, but with both of these entities being privately-owned (I believe) there's a much greater chance for "enlightened self-interest" to do it's work.

We are culturally similar, but "the same people" only inasmuch as Canadians and those from the US can be said to be the same people.

The next closest would probably be Canadians and British.

I've had plenty of signed-for packages from HK. None that will be this large, though... They could already be on their way as the update says they "were sent" (not "will be" sent). HK post is the usual 10 days to 3 weeks (most 2 weeks) so if they could arrive at the same time as US shipments, it could me mid-late next week (probably at the absolute earliest).

It only takes a few days in the southern or western US to realize how British we really are... even those of us who flaunt our uniqueness because we are francophone.

*sigh* I wish I could see for myself though. New Zealand sounds great at this time of the year. Is Australia still under an intense heat wave?

I must confess it is far from my area of expertse. No need to say it like it is a personal fault, however.
