Legendary Master of the Chapter

Oh man, this thread is like coming home.
After Ragin Shiroz started delivering I felt lost. I was sure I would never experience the banter, the comeraderie, the shameful ness, never again. Dreamforge has made Dakka great again.
Thank you, Dreamforge.

Hmmm, let me go check it out...
Pain! Anger! Rage! So much rage! Make it stop!
I think I'll stay here, thanks. In this thread, like RH, I think we're just all out to have fun and blow off our frustrations with humor. The Robotech thread is (justifiably) out for blood.
Or was last time I went. Automatically Appended Next Post: To clarify, while I might make light of this KS, I feel very positive about Dreamforge, WGF and Mark in particular. However, the $140 I flushed on RrpgT would have been better spent ordering prank pizzas.

It's easy to understand why the shamefulness isn't in here. Mark hasn't made this KS his personal pedestal where we come to worship him and bask in his glory. He's always had a much more common man than ubermensch vibe.
And he gets riled by delays, not like they are part of the grand scheme of his perfection coming to fruition.

Delays are okay, I think, when the guy's already delivered such pure quality.

Not much- I think they're quite eager to have this finished. They finally got the Secret Weapon campaign millstone off their neck, and I think it will be this then Kingdom Death to finish. And then hopefully some normal, non-Kickstarter-based business!

Mark has relayed as much, as has Justin of Secret Weapon... so, no, I don't think I am.
It's also been stated that WGF isn't taking any more Kickstarter jobs... there can only be one reason for that, they've been a bit insane in terms of the headaches they've caused due to the rushed timelines / unprepared creators, and their name is out there so much now that they don't need to take that business anymore. Getting it done and moving on is of course something they're pushing for, from all indications we've seen.
Edit: Also, I haven't timed the updates but it seems to me that we've had a bit of a rush of progress on this campaign from the chart Mark has shown. Personally, I think it would be bad for their reputation for WGF to finish Kingdom Death before Dreamforge, given how much earlier this one started, and Kingdom Death is getting impatient as their latest update shows. So, Dreamforge needs to get done! And it looks like it is going to be on a boat sometime this fall, which is much more than I had expected given the rate of progress earlier this year!

I simply don't believe anything they say at this point, or anything attributed to them. We've heard an endless stream of bs from WGF for several years now through Justin and Mark, etc.
It's also been stated that WGF isn't taking any more Kickstarter jobs... there can only be one reason for that, they've been a bit insane in terms of the headaches they've caused due to the rushed timelines / unprepared creators, and their name is out there so much now that they don't need to take that business anymore. Their name is indeed "out there". Their reputation for quality is already there, and their reputation for timeliness is already gak, and I don't know they'd much care what you or I think of it whether they finish DFG or KD first. I'll also believe that it'll ship when it's on the boats. Mark talking about "Late October fulfilment" just makes me yet again and assume that he badly mistyped "after CNY".

Not to mention starting to get money from multiple new orders because of the models hotness. More kits out there means more not guard and not marine armies being seen. Which in turn means more people buying items and more runs of production. Now if there were only rules and an opposing force........

You seem to be in the know, so thank you for that interesting tidbit. That seems curious to me because it would imply that they are seeing more sales of AWI and Dark Future kits then of the Dreamforge stuff (or they would be more enthusiastic about additional DFG production). At least we may see more Dark Futures stuff which would be great. Their current tack seems to be "all boring historicals with limited convertability all the time."
I am pretty sad that Wargames Factory seems to have interpreted "Orcs didn't sell well" as "fantasy doesn't sell well" rather than "our Orcs have shallow detail, weird arm poses, insufficient numbers of left arms and equipment options, so they didn't sell well."
I had great hopes there for a bit that WGF would put out some more fantasy stuff.

I haven't seen any sales figures comparing Dreamforge to the in house WGF kits, but I know the WGF people I've talked to really like the Dreamforge line. The factory just bit off more than they could handle with the Kickstarter. In hindsight that really is a LOT of plastic kits.
It would make sense to continue developing Dark Futures because the Vixens and Survivors were WGF's best selling kits and there's a lot of room to grow that genre without being derivative of another company's IP. Fantasy is tough I think, in terms of trying to differentiate the look from other companies, especially if you don't have your own world and rules set. The orcs are Reidy era and I agree are tough models to utilize without some serious work. I believe they were derived from MERP artwork without permission too, which current WGF won't do. I know people liked that aesthetic as an alternative to GW or Mantic's approach, but the execution fell short. It's hard to say if they redid the orcs, would people buy them?
As nice as I think they are to build and paint, I would be surprised if the AWI surpassed the Survivors or Vixens- I haven't heard anything on sales comparisons there either.
I personally want a few things added to Rising Suns but I'm not holding my breath

It is good to hear that the vixens and survivors are selling well. Hopefully that will convince them to add more interesting kits to their line up. The historical plastics market is already pretty crowded. Sci-fi is pretty much WGF and GW, and in the fantasy market just GW and Mantic (Not counting one off producers like Shieldwolf and AoW), and Mantic hasn't made a nice plastic kit since their orc release three or four years ago, and they were tiny sprues.
I think they could make a bunch with some sort of generic big plastic monster kit. Big muscley monster bodies in plastic could be converted into soooo many useful things by soooo many people.

I think limited interchangeability is the new modus operandi for WGF going forward. I don't think any of the post Reidy releases have been designed for easy interchangeability. All of the shoulder angles are different and clearly only intended for specific arm/weapon combos. I think it is a silly decision, and misses the point of why so many people enjoy HIPS kits.
