Hey dakka
As the title says has anyone else tried using mephiston rolling on the biomancy table ?
I have tried it twice so far and it worked great in one game, he killed a daemon prince with Black mace, a mualerfeind and 15 cultists before my opponent conceded (in a 1k point game)
The other time i tried it was against eldar and tau with Eldrad (was a team game and my teammate was playing GK) we won overall but mephy perils'ed twice then lost 2 wounds in combat due to poor rolling on my behalf.. but he survived !
So what are your experiences or opinions on this topic ?

If he can get Iron Arm from Biomancy, then he's pretty hard to kill. You're potentially looking at a S9/T9 Eternal Warrior Mesphiston who can easily get a 5+ cover from shooting.
However, the trade-off is that you need a transport to get him into combat. Preferably a stormraven. That makes this combo really expensive.

Mephiston with Iron Arm and Warp Speed on at once would be brutal against anything without a 2+ save. But yeah, only do it if you are planning on dropping him out from a Stormraven.

Too bad biomancy can't fix the fact that he can't penetrate 2+ armor. I can't justify ever bringing him anymore with the utility that the simple divination libby brings. I can get two jump back divination libbys for the same price, or for 50 points more, two jump back epistolaries. That's four divinations spells a turn!

Still less wounds and a model that can be cancelled out by str 8 weapons, meph cant.
I have used him all of three times, all three using biomancy first time I got warp speed and iron arm but he didnt see combat AT ALL!, everything run away (wasnt in transport...), second time in a LR redeemer, that combo was brutal, took out huron stright away and then half a CSM squad. Last time was last friday, nothing of note on the biomancy table (enfeeable was one, smite was the other, think I rolled a 6 on the table and swapped it out).
Was against nids, insta death'ed a tyranid prime and about 5 tyranid warriors the turn after then 5 gaunts and 3 hive guards it helped facing nids as they had to come to me (kill point game).

You act like Meph isn't already brutal against anything without a 2+ save. Unfortunately, it's his whole problem.

This. Mephiston's powers aren't worth trading out, because without them he has no mobility. Just keep his existing powers and go for things he can kill with ease.

The problem is that I will net far more kills/victory points by casting divination on my actual squads. If Mephiston could join a squad and be a super divination monkey, I'd still use him. But I can get more done by casting divination than bringing a 250 pt flawed beat stick.
Actually, now that I think about it, Mephiston sums up in a single model what plagues the whole codex in 6th: looks cool, but just comes up short for the points. Repeat that over and over and you have a BA army.

Then dont assault things with 2+ armour with him ? problem ?
And he actually can penetrate 2+ armour... plasma pistol, and biomancy powers that are AP2...

If you dont like that then dont use the codex ? I for one find it a fun and enjoyable codex

I heard on a podcast that Mephiston could be joined by another IC. I know he can't join a unit, but the guy made it seem like you treated Mephiston as a unit that you could then attach IC to.
Is this in fact legal?

This was from the Heroic 28's correct? I don't think they were right because I don't think IC's can join single model units.

Even in last edition, sending him up against a squad of TEQ is a terrible idea. Without invul you risk losing your expensive character too much.

It wasn't heroic 28, maybe the independent character podcast. Anyway, IF it is legal how could we abuse it? If you can attach one IC then you can attach multiple ICs. So of instance you could take HQ Mephiston and a librarian, then in you elite slots take a chaplain or two and up to 3 Sanguinary priests in one slot. It would be expensive and something you might only want to try at an Apoc game, but really what I want to know is if in fact we CAN do this?

in 5th that was the case. So no Archon joining a Talos and becoming majority T7 with the 2++

Well another reason I liked him in 5th that he was a hard-to-remove psychic hood. Don't need those anymore! Psychic hoods suck, as they can't stop buffs of any kind.
And in 5th, he could munch oblits, broadsides, sanguinary guard, etc. All those are off the table now.

yes he really was too good in 5th. The nerf bat swingouth and hath hit him hard. He really isnt competitive anymore.

That's an awful argument. For one if he as biomancy his mobility is reduced. You also make the assumption that people with 2+ saves will never assault him...ridiculous. Are you going to hide him away from terminators?
A single 250pt model can't deal with 2+ saves. Pretty pathetic.

Okay glad we got confirmation on that. It's not like he can't hang out next to a sanguinary priest. That's not his problem, imo. Griddlelol pretty much summed it up. It's not just terminators. It's any 2+ save. And this guy costs more than a stormraven.

ICs can always join other ICs.
Seriously, the IC rules spell this out explicitly - it's not some arcane interpretation. Reading the rules is a good thing.

It's not that Mephiston is bad; it's that he is the single most unbalanced character in the game. He either is a complete face-wrecker for some armies, or else he is almost completely useless against others. Mephiston is never just "alright".

He is bad for me, because I like to build all comers lists. He has no place when he has to cower from any random squad with a 2+, and offers no really pskyer support at 250 pts.
