I like the build on this guy. Even the Cadian head works for me since he is an Intel Officer (presumably) recruited from one of the Imperial armed forces.
The GS looks a bit rough, like it wasn't fully mixed. Are you using the strip type GS? If so, and you don't already do so, remember to take out the center 1mm or so where the two halves meet.

This is the leader for my inquisitor warband. He is slightly taller than the rest of the warband. The "skirt" was quite hard to sculpt so have covered it up in parchments etc. Have ordered some additional bits including a head for him.
Love this guy. Lookig forward to seeing him progress.
Love this guy too, especially now that he has paint on him. His skin and eyes are very creepy looking. Good work!

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah the green stuff on him got quite messy, there were "lumps" of yellow clumps all over it. It's fixed now though

I agree with Tarnaak, the head works well on the intel officer. It's evidence that the cadians are really out of proportion because that head looks too large usually. With the fixed height it looks correctly scaled.
I get quite good results by sanding my GS work, and for a smooth finish you can then use liquid gs over it and then sand it again. There are lots of other methods though but this works OK for me.
For the walker - I think he looks cool, especially the skin tone and his face. I think you could use some soot residue or heat discolouration on the smokestacks as they look a bit clean at the moment. And maybe a few splashes of sepia/brown ink on the parchment for some tonal variation there. Then again I am just a big fan of heavily weathered/aged looking things.

Was just talking about it in my thread, I use these now: http://www.masq-mini.com/aid-239-Profischleifset.html and Taarnak recommends Mr Clean erasers. Also Taarnak is a better sculptor than me so I think we should heed his advice.

Don't know that I would go that far Bruticus. Also, the Magic Erasers are more for the final finishing sanding. The others that B mentions would be better if you have material that needs removing in larger quantities.

Here's a little update for today. I've made a second character for the mutant gang. I really like using orc parts for them and the nob weapons l think look very suitable. Now I didn't just want to put a zombie head on an orc nob. I added some tubing and a "gas mask" from a cut up renegade. I also changed the static pose in to something more dynamic.

Yeah very happy with the eyes
Anyway, here is a small update for today. I'm still waiting for my tubing-tool and some parts for the inquisitors so decided to do another mutant. I tried using a comb for the tubing and it turned out ok but still want the tubing-tool for tube's with smaller "gaps".

Still waiting for some bits and the tubing tool. Was down to my local GW shop and bought some plastic kits the other day, the plastic necromancer and the plastic empire wizard. Planning on converting a "priest" type character for my mutants and a sinister medic for my inquisitors. Also bought the John Blanche artwork book for inspiration
Posting a little painting update. This is by far the most hated model I ever painted and it isnt even the models fault. First when I washed the armour with agrax earthshade I got grey residue in the deep parts. So basically had to redo the armour. Last night the miniature was almost finished so planned on finishing it today. I had some final highlights on the flesh and some minor details left to fix, 30 minutes work at the worst. However, I totally messed up the skin by chosing a too light color for the highlight and it looked terrible and I couldnt paint it over with something darker. After this I had to redo the skin and fix details, took me 3 hours since it was so messy. So basically I hate this model and can barely look at it right now. I realise however that every mdoel can't be your best one. Anyway here are the photos!

Liking the flamer, has a very mutie feel going on. The second dude looks alright to me, although I will say that the facial expression made me think of Forever Alone Guy's Laugh. You're right about not every mini being able to be your absolute best work ever, but overall I think you did a good job on him so try not to let it get to you I guess. Look forward to seeing what comes of the recent plastic kits purchase.
Edit: Almost forgot. I'm trying to get behind the guy with the Ork bits, but I have to say I feel like he's still a bit too Orky. I think it's the lower body that's making him seem less 'mutie' more 'xenos'. Have you considered perhaps mixing proportions on him so that the upper half is a bit more over sized and out of proportion in contrast to his less mutated legs? Just a thought that occurred to me when scrolling through the thread.

Hehe thanks for the feedback I agree that my mutant leaders facial expression looks quite odd but on the other hand he is a mutant and can't be held accountable for his poor face. On the orky guy I actually tried with some other legs but it just didn't work with the big power claws. I'll try to make him not looks as orky by painting him differently instead.

Here's an update for today. Finished painting "Subject A7" today. He got a barcode tattoo on his left arm and on his right arm it says A7. He is a member of the mutant gang.
Here's the next Inquisitor I'm working on he is some kind of medic type of guy. He got syringes on his fingers and various robotic arms.

Nice work on painting up A7- the barcode in particular is really good. I think you managed to set him apart from his orkish base quite nicely indeed post-paint.
Medic guy seems interesting. What head are you using for him, if I may ask? It reminds me somewhat of Gollum, but I wasn't certain.

I found the head in my "bits-box". I think it's from the zombie set but not 100% sure. Automatically Appended Next Post: Bruticus wrote:very nice painting, I really like the rich brown you have going on there.
The cool part is that the brown is super easy to make. Base with mournfang brown. Drybrush with jokaero orange. 1-2 layers of agrax earthshade depending on how dark you want it, the first mutant I painted got 2 layers and this one 1 layer.

I used a zombie hand and glued sharpened plasticard rods to the finger tips. Then I added thin wires that went from the fingers to the back of the hand. I think I will redo it however as it isn't as good as I'd like it to

Nicely done.
Really like the armour on the nurgle lord.
The other muties bionic eye makes me laugh in an uncomfortable way. The blades on his claws are very nice.

Yes the artbook is amazing for inspiration. I like to look at the small details and they instantly gives me ideas for whole new characters.
Anyway, todays update. Finally got some bits today including the head for my inquisitor leader! The shield will get a better fit after I've painted it, now it just stuck there with blue- tac. How do you think I should paint him? I'm thinking dark red robes(matching the rest of my warband) and black armour.
Also, I wasn't 100% happy with the warrior priest I posted earlier in this thread and I thought that I would just regret it if I painted it knowing I wasn't 100% happy with the conversion so I cut it up and remade it completely. Here's the end result:

Much bigger fan of your warrior priest now! He really reminds me of a Savlar Chem Dog, or a Drookian Fen Guard now, some kind of veteran in tartan at any rate! I'm fairly excited to see some work on your ex-marine, with his muscley bare torso and gigantic axe. I've been meaning to make myself a marine for a while now, if only just to explore the possibilities of renegade marines.
The shield on your Inquisitor seems a little short. I'll reserve my opinion however, until it's completely finished!
Your paintjobs are class, I really like your flesh tones.

Pretty classic look for Inquisitors IMO, so I'd say go for it. That particular mini might look interesting with a Grey Knight 'esque theme as well, but then he wouldn't fit as well I guess. Agree with Ghosty that the shield is a tad short.
I like aspects of both warrior priests, but I think you're onto something with that second one. What type of gun is that by the way? I was thinking archaic pistol but wasn't certain.

I will probably have updates of the ex-marine this weekend. I ordered a new axe for him(The orc nob one was too big imo, don't like oversized weapons for my miniatures) and actually tried on some terminator legs. However the terminator legs were to bulky and I instead enlongated the marine legs slightly. Got some sanding and gs work on him before he is finished!

The gun is from the Empire Pistoliers.

Brilliant! Damn wish I had thought of this! This model screams Inquisitor at me. I think that some more purity seals and reliquary type eclectic boxes and bits round his waste would help blend in the scroll hanging at the front. It looks a little tacked on at the moment. Brilliant use of the priest totally transformed the model into something else.
Oh and a tiny bit more filing above his right foot - I can still make out a Sigmarite comet. Is there a mold line running along the rebreather pipe?
Oh any chance of a rear shot?
