LOL , thanks mate . Do it ! I'm gonna make up about 15 or 20 as reinforcements for my boys GW figures.

If Anvil expand the Black Ops range to include separate torso's , vehicles etc we might switch over entirely !

I love this, You have made me want to buy some of the BLACK OPS Exo-Lords. So did you just do leg and head swaps and add a few GW bits?

I think they turn out pretty good too !

I bought the Black Ops fire team and the "suppressor" squad with auto cannon. Then just added a few GW bits , backpacks for no other reason than to tie them with our other figures and the Catachan heads , cos I like them !

I'd really like to refine my airbrush technique so that I can spray on camo stripes , I'm not keen on brush painted cam , but getting the stripes believably fine enough is proving hard !!!

Anyhow , thanks for looking and especially to those who posted !

Hopefully have a Jump pack Assault squad up soon !

With that in mind , I leave it to you people , ref. Assault Squad , Desert yellow armour like the Black Ops guys , desert yellow with German Grey stripes (brushed not sprayed, I'm away from my airbrush) or desert yellow with olive green 'pea dot' pattern like the Heavy Bolter guy ?

Thanks again !!!

As a former army grunt, this makes me happy. Love the camo and the effects. Makes me want to do a new SM chapter in my old desert camo scheme or the newer ACU pattern. Oh, the possibilities. The yellow shield, is that from a real unit? Looks almost like a cav patch.

Also, check out my history blog: Minimum Wage Historian, a fun place to check out history that often falls between the couch cushions.

Hey fella , same dust different army !

Do it mate , far too many bright things wondering around. ACU might be tricky in this scale tho , random pea dot type cam is all I can manage.

I made the shield up after a few glasses of good red wine !!!

What do you reckon for the Assault Squad ? Plain Desert yellow , with grey stripes similar to the vehicles or green pea dots ?

Holy hell that is excellent painting. I love the scratches down to the "primer" and the weathering in general, as well as the cohesive camo patterning.

Damn fine work.

Thanks mate , the chipping is a little tedious but it looks ok at the end !
Hardest part is getting the colour shades consistent , I shade the vehicles with my airbrush but after a couple of glass's it sometimes goes slightly "off" !

Anyone want to state a preference for camo scheme on the Assault marines ?

did you do the camo differently? It looks like you've got the grey over a black basecoat. It didn't seem like the previous ones did that and that might be why they're standing out a bit more. I think they look good though and I'm sure your son is going to have a blast with them.

Hi mate , yes the camo was all brush painted right from the beginning , 4 with white primer 4 on black primer that had been hanging around from when my eldest son played ( he used black primer )
Usually I prefer white primer and start with my airbrush , but as I'm currently away from home working I couldn't .
The 'Grey" is actually my usual Panzer grey , it seemed ALOT darker when brush painted instead of airbrushed so I added a very simple highlight to it.

Painting semantics aside, yes , I think the boy will find a use for them !

I really like those, some of the marine heads have inspired me as well!

The weathering and damage on the vehicles is just fantastic if you ask me.

Keep up the great work.

fantastic stuff, love it! Would dearly love to see you do an IG army tho!

What paints and airbrush are you using? I'd like to give this a go and happen to have a new airbrush waiting in my garage! :-)

Thanks mate !

After a few zombie experiments I'm thinking of getting some Nurgle Traitor Guard together ( I've started a Nurgle WIP tho its been slow), I'm doing
them worn and haggard rather than tentacles and slime , I'm ALMOST positive!

Also fairly interested in doing some of those plastic Eisenkern Stormtroopers as I.G stormtroopers , but again , lots of marines to do first !

Paint wise its really simple , all the colours on the vehicles or power armour are mainly just shades of Tamiya desert yellow or Vallejo Panzer Grey. Details are picked out in whatever seems suitable. Simples !
I tend to use white primer and really dark colours thinned a lot to help start the shading process.

My airbrush is nothing fancy , its a Badger 200 , its single action but i find its ok for vehicles and big colours on troops , haven't really got the skills for the finer stuff or big pieces of freehand (yet). Keep you paint thin and watch for lumps and bits in your paint ( which block the nozzle and will drive you crazy) and you'll be fine.

The only way to get good is to practise like crazy buddy ! Use it to prime stuff until you get the feel of it then give it a go !

To be honest I didn't actually expect to like the results of opening this thread as the SM I've seen done with camo have usually been way over done, sometimes using 4-5 different colors or doing them with digital camo all over, but these are something ver different.

They look very good, and I look forward to seeing more!

I think what throws the assault marines off a bit is the lines of gray. It didn't look to me like that was a really common theme on anything else except for the vehicles. The grays and blacks were more in the nature of shadows and wear rather than camo design. Or so I thought, anyway.

By the way, I'm left torn over the take on what looks to be the "chocolate chip" camo scheme that I thought I saw. I kinda like it, but I think that's because of the uniforms from Desert Storm.

Over all, though, I have to say I really like the scheme. Your Marines have the look of men who have been hammered on the crucible of warfare, are worn in body and soul, but are still full of the righteous fury of their fight. These actually look like Marines that have been on the sharp end for a long campaign, and, while I have seen a lot of beautiful parade-ground color schemes on this site, yours win in my book.

Bonecrusher 6, out.
