Sweet stuff. I still don't know how you do the weathering. For example, the tech marine's servo arm... Is it brush work?

All marines utilize some form of camoflague... the hands of alpharius and omegon are everywhere.

Things I've gotten other players to admit...

Thanks mate , yes I use a fine brush and a really dark grey paint , this is applied to the edges of plates / raised areas and places where it would naturally get knocked or rubbed .

It helps to highlight the edges of the chips with a light mix of the original colour you are applying it to.

Or on really fine chips highlight the base colour first then apply the chipping or you will do your head in !

I have tried stippling brushes and sponge techniques , but never felt they looked as good as doing it with a really pointed brush , tho on large vehicles such as LandRaiders a bit of sponge work with additional brush work saves a lot of time !

Does that make sense ? Hope that helps !

Thanks Nem , I'm in a good position where I have a large , well stocked workshop and can fill a couple of large coffee jars or an ice cream tub with brake fluid and strip paint off of pretty much anything !

Oh and a well stocked bitz box is handy too !

Nice camo work. The vehicles are impressive and while the marines are not quite as camo'd I like them too.

Ahhhh , thanks for the Info , and the comment , I'm going to try some sprayed cam on marines when the finer needle I ordered turns up for my single action air brush , I know single actions are SOOOOO yesterday , but I get on with it well enough . I might buy a double action if I can find a good , cheap one on ebay !

Just got these two finished after a long work delay , fairly pleased with how they've turned out tho would still like to improve my airbrush shading and the chipping effect. However , I reckon they're good enough for the table top.

The short barrel option. I ordered some gatling type barrels from Machinatus and they'll look fricking awesome if I ever get them done.

Awesome, really intimidating looking tanks! Definitely above TTQ I'd say.

The problem you're having looks like focus, I think you're too far away to use a macro function, but too close to focus the normal lens.

If you do them individually it will probably be easier to get that sweet spot.

I also like to use a photo editor to bring the background back up to the white that it looks like to your eye. That's my hackney colour correction but I think it's effective.

The vehicles look really neat. One of the better camo jobs I have seen. The only thing that stand out to me (and just my preference) is the stark yellows, reds, and whites. Military vehicles usually have a subdued look on the logs/flash etc. Meaning that instead of the bold colors on the drab colors, they would use different color browns/tans/greens etc. Might make those parts stick out less.

While I agree about the military vehicles would use less bright colors for icon, I think the weathered yellows works quite well on these. It may not be real world functional but it does add just the right splash of contrast/character to the vehicles. It all comes down to personal preference I suppose.

I like the camo design, and I absolutely love how you've used the weathering to conceal the wear and tear to the secondhand models. Very clever!

That being said, I don't like camo on Space Marines. (Except scouts.) I think that camouflage runs counter to the heraldric feel of the Space Marines. Like your knights of old, the bold colors are purposeful. The complaint I hear from realists is that being in such bright colors would make you a target, but that's kind of the point. Space Marines are supposed to be the knights with banners flying, ribbons streaming from their armored steeds. The guys in brownish clothing, maybe with some dirt on their faces to blend in with the hills, those are the archers. (Or the Imperial Guard, in this case.) And yes, I understand that this dynamic is unrealistic, but so is every other aspect of the 40k setting.

That's just my personal preference though, and I don't think it's one that most people share. (At least not openly.) I think you'll probably get some good reception for this army, since it's different at the very least, and it's very, very well done. Awesome paint job, and awesome conversion work. I hope that when my son gets old enough, he and I have a project like this, too!
I counter this with the fact that chapters these days (in the current known fluff) seem to be losing many of their marines. Maybe this chapter has suffered such losses that it needs to use this to its advantage.

Also note that not all chapters are bright some use dark colors to hide in darkness (a form of camo at work) and to infiltrate easier.

I love this. The fact that you are doing something that somany shy away from is something I love seeing and you sir have done a WONDERFUL job!

Nice job on the camo painting, although got to wonder about camo on the dread, that thing makes enough sound to wake the dead just by moving

Love the army so far.

As far as anyone telling you that space marines can't wear camo, tell them to go back to First Edition. Yes I'm talking about Rogue Trader, I still have books with Space Wolves marines in camo hiding on a ridge to ambush orks, Mantis Warriors, etc.

They're looking great. keep it up!

HaHa, Yeah I remember queuing outside a GW store for a slowed amount of hours so I could buy a copy of the 1st Edition. It's full of camo pics !!

I'm of the opinion that its my hobby and I can do as I like ( within certain , sensible guidlines ) and if I fancy a drop of camo paint then the rest can shove it !

Those Anvil Industry lads looks awesome! Do you paint them using airbrush or only a conventionnal brush? Also, could you share the painting recipe for the infantry?

Thanks mate , I'm definitely getting some more , they look really cool mixed up with GW parts.

I will be trying to paint the next lot as much as possible with my airbrush , I only applied the base coat on these guys then did the rest with normal brushes.
The recipe is fairly simple , after a white primer I airbrushed on some thin Tamiya Desert Yellow. Then a bit of a shading pin wash of Argrax Earthshade with some German Grey in it thinned down alittle , then 2 or 3 progressively lighter shades of the Desert Yellow , then some edge chips in German Grey and a final light Desert Yellow to tidy up and highlight some of the chips.

The weapons were the same as the armour and washed in Tamiya NATO Brown, then chipped , and the equipment was a mix of Olive Green and Light Grey to make a Sage green type colour.

Simples !
