I'm sure its an intentional throwback.

Can't wait for the next HH book. Or any of the books from Forgeworld, for that matter. Need to see more Monstrous Arcanum goodness!

They do indeed!

Wow, I was thinking of making a Deathwatch force for my Grey Knights using SM allies; guess I won't hav to be converting a scout squad anymore...those recon legionnaires are awesome!

I've said it before, but there's something about these mark IV squads I just love.

I love the Thallax, and the breacher squads look wonderful .The recon guys just feel like they have dishcloths as capes, surely you'd need more coverage than that for camoflage?

The Admech grew out of the Mechanicum, but is far different, just like the Imperium of Mankind is far different in the "present" era than pre-couch potato Emperor era. If the various styles of pre-heresy and heresy Imperial equipment can look quite different from "modern" tech, why not Mars-tech?

They are still referred to as the Mechanicum in 'modern' times. They certainly changed as time went by, but the names are not something that changed.

Are there more Mechanicum units in Betrayal, or are the Thallax the only ones to feature?

I thought the rumour was that FW wouldn't be doing regular Skitarii units, and that we wouldn't be seeing a FW-HH book set on Mars for years if at all, rather that they would get odd(in both senses of the word) units here and there in the other books?

Anyway, I think they fit the Mechanicus aesthetic just fine, although I do intend to fix the head facing forward and integrate it into the torso more on mine. I'll also probably get rid of the daft mini-Saturn V rocket-bell bits on them.

EDIT: Medium, they also get a modest variation on the Land Raider and a Special Character, but the scope of the book didn't really allow for them to feature heavily. Hopefully "Massacre", with the inclusion of the Iron Hands and the portable fortifications described in the HH novels about the dropsite massacre, will feature more of the Ordo Reductor at least, although it would be nice to see some Legio Cybernetica forces as well. If only so we could finally get a definitive answer on how big the various types of Robot are supposed to be.

Ran across this image the other day and I have no idea if it has been shown yet. Guessing it is an EC upgrade pack going by the aquillas and pads. What else are we expecting from FW space marine wise? I think all the kits they previewed (besides this one have been released right?)

They really need to give Thallaxii rules for 40K. Simple PDF for using them in an IG army would suffice for now. I have no interest in playing HH, but I've great interest in HH models to be used in 40K. I am probably not the only person feeling this way.

Good call! More helmets coming out? Part of a squad, maybe?

EDIT: I just flipped through the HH and Space Marine infantry kits and didn't see any helmet that looks like that one.

I'm fairly sure that infantry helmet features on some EC in the Collected Visions book, I'll check in a few mins.

EDIT: Yep, it or something similar shows up in several places, best example is page 147.

I'll just be using the rules as-is as an Elite choice for IG, I only get a few games a year with mates anyway so there won't be any objections, and frankly anyone who would object to house ruling it that way isn't someone I;d be interested in playing against. It would be nice if they did a proper "40K Approved" entry though I agree, to help out those gamers who're stuck playing against the sorts who consider the rulebook an inviolate Holy Bible.

I'm sure my friends be cool with house ruling it too, but I'd still rather have actual rules for it. And of course in any tournament you'd need real, official rules.

To clear any confusion from my post, I meant I flipped through the Space Marine and HH infantry products on the Forge World site and didn't see this helmet.

Like you, I'm nearly 100% positive I've seen that helmet in artwork before. Specifically, one of the color plates in the Forge World Horus Heresy:Betrayal book.

I think that the Thallaxii are an awesome way to retcon the Imperial Robots of the Rogue Trader era. Back then they were controlled by actual AI cortexes, and with AI after the Iron Men period not being a part of the 40K fluff anymore, having the Adeptus Mechanicus building smaller, rougher versions of Dreadnoughts (or like said before, essentially Imperial 'Wraithguard') is a perfect way of bringing Robot Maniples back.

I only wish it wasn't so expensive for three models (especially after shipping to the US), but that's the luxury of FW for you..

Hell, FW seem to have normalized high prices for "special" resin minis, look at Kingdom Death and that fantasy gladiator game kickstarter; I need to learn to sculpt faces(my Achilles Heel) so I can put out sculpts with "boutique" slapped on them and charge £10+ a pop for about 50p of resin

I think the Thallax look awesome; great models as ever by Forge World. I love the idea behind them too: very dark and efficient.
I do to an extent share the sentiments expressed by some about them looking a bit too non-Imperial, but for me I feel that's only at a distance. Once you look at the individual pictures I feel it looks very man-made and unlike that produced by any of the Xenos. So overall a big thumbs-up from me!

How are those expensive? It's three rather large resin models. Its' about 9 pounds per a Thallax. I think these are surprisingly cheap, actually.

I agree, they are signifigantly cheaper than regular Imperial Guard Ogryns for example, and would make for amazing standins if you had a heavily mechanized army, with a techpriest too perhaps.

The only Marine kits still missing from Betrayal are the Palatine Guard for the Emperor's Children, at least I think that's what their name is.

Basically 5 "Honour Guard" style units, master swordsmen of the legion with Charnabal Sabres by default, upgradable to power weapons, power lances, jump packs and sonic shreakers. They're distinct enough to warrant their own kit, especially since the sabre doesn't exist yet as far as I know, or an infantry lance.

They're one of the units that most appealed to me in the book when I read it, and probably the only "legion" specific unit I'd have an interest in getting purely for a modeling standpoint, if they're a decent sculpt, as there's zero interest in doing HH armies, even from myself, locally.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.
