Ok, so I've been thinking how best to handle to migration to Ultimate. I've been warning you all from the start that the server is temporary and the world will be reset for Ultimate and I certainly won't be copying across any structures at all. However, there are some things in these mods (Thaumcraft Research, Quantum Armor/Gravisuits, Bees, etc) that can be very tedious to start completely from scratch.

However, I don't just want to set up a "free crap" area in the new world (although there will of course still be a shared facilities area). I also think there should still be at least a small (albeit shorter) period where you're still starting out from nothing again.

So I've come to the following idea - I'll copy across Thaumcraft research data for each player. However, I will erase all items from your inventories. If you want to keep items, you have to put some effort in. The more stuff you want to keep, the more effort it takes.

Basically, start making Ender Chests (or Ender Pouches) and make them private by right clicking the lock with a diamond. If you fill up one chest and still have more stuff you want to keep, make another with another colour combination (and make it private with another diamond). The more stuff you want to keep, the more diamonds and resources it costs you. Start working towards or making chests now, because I don't know when FTB Ultimate will be out, but it does look to be coming real-soon-nowTM. Make sure to note down which colour combinations you use!

Some quick tips for making this easier, the Minium Stone is key. Blaze powder can be obtained from the flowers in the mining age's surface (or from deserts in the overworld) and two blaze powder can be turned into a blaze rod with the minium stone. The minium stone can turn four iron ingots into ender pearls, alternatively the new cave world seems a good source of endermen. Obsidian is trivial to obtain using an Igneous Extruder (there is one at spawn). Diamonds can be obtained various ways, but gold is aplenty from various sources (Twilight Forest, the xp grinder at spawn, regular mining in the overworld) and the minium stone will also convert gold to diamond rather inexpensively. The minium stone will also convert dyes from one colour to another.

Bear in mind that in the new Ultimate world, you will be starting with a blank inventory, so you will have to gather the resources above again to make your ender chests to regain your items. I think this is a reasonable amount of effort for people to go through (rather than just having everything immediately, nor having to completely start from scratch).

For now I would just start working towards and making the ender chests you need, but don't start packing up all your items until we have a more definite release date for the Ultimate pack.

Those of you working in groups, please communicate to each other in this period, make sure you all know who's putting what into which chests. Don't start accusing each other of stealing!

Later on tonight I'll add something in-game to make this warning too (as I think there are some who don't read this thread). Maybe another notice board at spawn with a periodic server announcement to notice the notice.

ALSO: Don't bother storing any Mystcraft linking books, because they won't work (the ages will have different ids and although they'll be the same themes, there'll probably be different world gen).

Seems like a solid idea, I know I was dreading redoing all my research lol.

Is anyone having trouble with the FTB launcher, when I try and download the mods, it basically ends up shutting down my internet connection and I have to restart my computer. I'm using AVG, but have tried it with AVG disabled.

Honestly, I think a full reset would be more fun, but I guess that's just me. Also, seems like people who weren't into thaumcraft get a bit shafted by comparison.

I haven't noticed any issues with the launcher so far.

when Ultimate comes out, would it be possible to post the map for the new world with some of it already explored?

i thought we did something similar after the vanilla reset, it would be nice to be able to find a spot on the map than to wander around looking for a suitible spot.

All the Thaumcraft Research is useless without the tools to use it. Thaumcraft users will have to make Enderchests for their items (Tables, Crucibles, Alembics, wands) too. If you put your Engines, Recyclers, Mass Fabricators, MFSUs, etc in your Enderchests, it's rather similar to Thaumcraft people getting their research.

I probably will, as people exploring generating chunks does create a bit of lag,so it will be better to have some of the world pre-generated before hand. However, you won't be allowed to claim land just by looking at the map, you'll have to go there in-game to claim it. It got a bit silly with the Tekkit map with people arguing over volcanoes etc.

I don't know about you lot, but I think that I'll just start again from scratch, as that's a lot of the fun.

I only just started playing, so i'll definitely be starting from scratch It does mean i cant really be arsed to play on the test map any more though.

Just keeping my Wands, Goggles and my research. And my Soul Shards. Maybe some of my aspects, a bit of soul sand/netherwart, but that's not really necessary, I think.

Also, remember Bags. They allow you to essentially 'stack' inventories- so you could have a canvas bag full of stuff, inside your Ender Chest- might be a good way to save space.

Phew, I can save my quantum armour and gravichestplate! I was beginning to get flashbacks of making it all...

Time to completely disassemble everything and shove it in some canvas bags!

Just start making as many canvas bags & ender chests as you'll need for now.

Also want to add that I'll be making some snapshot of the world available for download when it goes offline, so if you start disassembling right now before any release date for Ultimate has been announced, it'll be disassembled in the download too :/

Just to tell everyone to avoid confusion.

If you read my post, you make the chests private by right clicking the lock with a diamond. Then everyone could have the same colour combination and they only get their stuff.

Please don't start "reserving" colour combinations. Just make the chest private.

wait should i start moving everything i own into my ender chests now? or should i do that later?

im not bothered about anything in particular, im just going to hang around until the Thaumcraft Tower is complete, walk up and claim my room, and go from there.

i can almost guarantee i will make some sort of escape tunnel to a separtatre Science Lab, because I just like sciency stuff. (No, apostle, no tech will enter the Tower)

Also Dark, would it require a different diamond every time you open a personalised Enderchest to re-personalise it?

Just to let everyone know, the Red Tower probably isn't going to be finished before the server swap. I'll keep working on it, and try to get it all planned out, but it'll be almost all testing and outsides and cosmetic stuff.

So yeah i have 14 canvas bags with basically everything i own in them. (all the important stuff that took me a while to get to, enchants research documents, journals, my really good gear, and also my ores, seeing as i am only on the server to kill bosses, i hate mining D: so yeah, would be interesting to restart with nothing but a yellow flower.) But yeah i have every thing i need i might mop up the rest of my stuff.

I have named items so hopefully those don't get lost over the transfer.

I'll probably only put my salamander's eye and gravity gun, and maybe a few emeralds in my enderchest...

Those of you asking when? I don't know. I said so in the post. The reason I'm telling you now is because it might take time for you to gather resources to make ender chests (not everyone has massive UU-generators and auto-crafting systems). I'm giving you time to prepare.

I said don't pack up everything just yet because we don't know when it'll come out. If you pack up everything right now you'll have nothing to play with until Ultimate comes out.

As for the question about a diamond for each chest, probably, but there may be a way for scrupulous players to use only one diamond... Further testing is needed...

Well i did put everything away. no problem to me. Just i will grab my armor and sword and go on an adventure.

Yes, those of you wanting to save diamonds can do so by filling one chest at a time. Break the chest and you get the diamond back. Set the chest to a different colour combo and add the diamond again. Rinse and repeat.
