Ah, the main FTB team are away at the Minecraft Expo in Telford, so someone left behind must have accidentally marked 1.1.3 as recommended. It fixes the "unnamed" thing but makes Force sticks uncraftable (and a few other annoying bugs).

They are working on getting 1.1.4 released soon, so I'd hold off on upgrading to 1.1.3 for now.

If you have accidentally updated to 1.1.3, click the drop down, choose 1.1.2, then click the Options tab at the top, and click "Force Update".
That should clear out the 1.1.3 stuff and redownload the 1.1.2 stuff.

Wonder if it's the same guy every time it gets released with a screw up specifically from the team.

Hrmm... So, Dark... I was doing lava removal, and I went to right-click a bucket of lava onto an empty tank. It placed the lava. Predictably, I died.

I lost a few things I'd rather not have lost- namely my fancy hammer and my mining hammer. Any way you could look into a reimbursement? Or even just see if it was legitimately a glitch, and not me being terrible.

Recently downloaded FTB this weekend and started exploring.

Has anyone claimed this spot yet:

http://www.darkinnit.com/ftbmap/?worldname=Unleashed&mapname=surface&zoom=6&x=1689.4380843549618&y=64&z=41.87928419030594

If not, I would like to stay here. I checked it out but didn't see signs of inhabitants in town. No signs or beds either. However, there were a few chests and a bee factory set up.

Pretty sure youre good for stayin there. Chests and the couple apiaries are built into the village spawn. Honestly I think you are one of the first to settle in the East (I've only ever flown through it briefly). Everyone else primarily went south or west.

You'll definitely have room to expand

Apparently my village was too small to include a blacksmith or iron golems. No big loss.

I did find another village a little north of my new town that DID include a blacksmith, but half of the homes are in water. The blacksmith chest was also looted before I got there.

I might eventually expand this far, but that feels a bit greedy. I have a lot of work ahead of me anyways in my own biome.

Here's what you do:

Block off the doors to every house in the village except for 1 of the cubical ones.

When night comes, the villagers (at least 2 are needed) should go in there to hide. Once they're in, seal the top of the house (so they can't get on the roof) and replace the wooden door with an iron one.

Now, surround the walls of the house with wooden doors. Presto, they'll start breeding in a confined space. Once you've got enough resources, you can move them to a full-scale farm.

Just remmber to use regular doors. Eucalyptus doors, for example, don't do anything for the door-fetishers.

Hey Grundz... You're willing to help me with my dreams of incredible cobble compression?

I think an Applied Energistics system could instantly craft octuple compressed stuff (from enough cobble, of course) if you taught it the various compression steps through encoded patterns... Then it'd just be a matter of getting a ton of cobble gens going.

Though I also have a 5 block setup for making the initial compression- which can easily be trickle-down'd into the rest of them- thing is, the Auto Crafting Bench takes time, now, to craft stuff...

Or you could just use quarries to get the cobble instead, it'd get you more resources that way anyway, and tons of cobble.

Trust me. Quarries wouldn't be enough.

I mined out something like a 41 block diameter circle down through 115 layers - probably over 60,000 blocks- (most mining age stuff is gonna be only 64x64) and I got a Single, Quintuple compressed cobble block, and 4 quadruple compressed. Even a max sized quarry's gonna get you maybe a single hextuple compressed. Let's do some Mathammer on this.

One 64x64x64 quarry nets 262144 blocks. Assuming perfect cobblestone (probably gonna get more like 2/3 or 3/4 cobble)...

One Hextuple compressed block requires 531,441 cobble. That's roughly 2 quarries. Considering you need nine of those for a Septuple, nine of those for an Octuple... That's 162 quarries full output for a single Octuple compressed cobblestone block, or 43,046,721 cobble. Even if I utilized all 100 (or 1000?) possible Igneous Extruders Grundz is able to provide (and maybe another dozen or so of my own, so far?- let's say 1000) that's 43,046x3 (takes about 3 sec for an extruder to make a block) seconds or 35 hours per octuple block.

Basically, I'd need to setup a system of hundreds of thousands of igneous extruders to have octuple block production nearing the speed UU matter can be produced. And UU only makes smoothstone. So that's out.

Actually, old-school mining well or 1-block quarry cobble generators might actually be faster than extrusion, and since it takes iron instead of tin or gold... Assuming a block per tick, at maximum power, that's 20 blocks per second per mining well- thought that's actually limited by the speed at which the lava/water interact, so let's just say 1 block per second. That's still about a 3x boost in speed over the extruders...

Now if we were able to get a full-fledged, chunk-wide Direwolf20 style Frame Mining Crawler utilizing mining wells, and just cut a swath through the world... Then we might be able to see a system that could start producing octuple cobble blocks at a fairly rapid rate- again, though, this would require either massive banks of autocrafting tables (just a bunch of wood, really, and hoppers) or an Applied Energistics system with encoded recipes for all the various compression levels of cobblestone, told to keep a large inventory full.

Why exactly are you after so much cobblestone?

Because he wants the compressed cobblestone blocks for decoration?

The Auto Crafting Bench is the worst way to go, don't forget other mods exist, you don't have to go overkill AE.

Here's some methods I saw on the interwebs yesterday:

You normally like to avoid tech, so if you want to keep it simple, less tech, use Factorization packagers, no power required:
http://prntscr.com/1nk9ay
(Plus you can re-use the packagers for other storage blocks like iron, gold, lapis etc)

A step up, use Force Pipes:
http://imgur.com/a/WrZ2h

Overkill AE (may be needed if you really need extreme amounts and are willing to setup the power)
http://imgur.com/a/s63ni

Of course there are other methods too. (You could go nuts with crafty turtles and have them mine and compress it for you.)

So... smaller than your average quarry.

A properly powered quarry will still be faster than your average cobble generator, and it'll give you more resources than cobble, besides. You'd have to move it occasionally, but that's a tiny price to pay, since you'd also be able to move all the stuff that powered it, too.

Of course, I'd also guess that most people don't want all the cobble from their quarries. I'm sure you could set something up with a public tesseract or enderchest for donations.

That'd be a great idea. I'd be fine with donating the cobble from mine!

Also do we need to update to 1.1.4?

That's pretty sensible really. I mean, a chest could be put in the Nexus for Anvil's Cobble, and anyone can just stuff their leftovers in there.

I'll look into creating an Enderchest for it.

Packagers and force pipes... I'll look into those as well. Anything that takes less time than the benches would be good.

Not yet. Stay on 1.1.2 (for now) if you want to play on the server (of course you can update to 1.1.4 for your own worlds or other servers).

1.1.3 does fix a load of bugs in 1.1.2, but then brings in a whole load of new ones (I think they only made it recommended so people would stop complaining about "unnamed" and they could listen to different complaints instead).

1.1.4 fixes the new bugs, but isn't listed as "Recommended" yet (but there's always some persistent minor bugs that we'll just have to live with).

So 1.1.4 is the one I will update the server to, but not until it's listed as "Recommended". I might do some testing of it this weekend to see if it breaks anything.
