I used ones from a different mod, but perhaps Backpacks just hate me in general. Maybe I need to try things with a different name. Knapsacks, or Ender Pouches. Maybe if I rename my Backpacks in an anvil they will like me.
I have another suggestion as well?

Make an automatic cutoff or deadman's switch. There are various cheap ways to do this, whether it's a comparator on a quarry's output chest with a redstone signal to disable engines when the chest starts to get full or just a simple "you have to stand on the pressure plate for the system to run" configuration.

Not sure if it was because of this, but something was creating a lot of lag on the vanilla server as well the other night.

If you're gonna breed a ton of villagers, you might as well make a Tinker's Construct smeltery that you can channel/dump them all into. They melt down into Emeralds.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

I have a village on top of my base and a smeltery I'm not using.

You've just given me a cunning plan.

The point of breeding them was to sacrifice them. Melting them for emeralds does sound handy though.

I just left them breeding and forgot about them which is why they got a bit out of hand, Ill just have to add a few things to the breeder and itl work out fine.

This is a situation where an auto-breeder, some Railcraft auto-loading/unloading (and sorting!) rails, and a Smeltery come in handy.

Also- couldn't you used to make Smelteries any size, as long as they were square? I can't seem to make a 4x4 smeltery in my singleplayer world- also, are Casting Channels wonky for anyone else? they're not working for me when I have them attached directly to a drain.

Smelteries have to be 3*3 but can be any height, though I swear they used to be any size.

Using fluiducts works way better for removing fluids from the smeltery.

My singleplayer only has Railcraft and Tinkers. No fluiducts.

Also, fluiducts can't be use to automatically put molten metal into the ingots or casting basins.

Also, I got a badass system set up for making Brownstone.

You can check out my vids on my YouTube channel.

YouTube name is Earthenfist- not sure if I have a link in my sig or not...

I use fluiducts to pump various liquids out of my smeltery drain right into a casting basin, I did it on this very server to automate clear glass.

Really? Does it require a pulse, or is it automatic?

Personally, I dislike using transfer systems that cost metal. I'd rather use the metal for other things- blocks, or tools or whatnot. Casting channels are nice in that they cost nothing more than sand, gravel and clay.

Also, call me crazy, but having a transfer system that's 'effected' by gravity is nice- not being able to push fluids upwards without a pump or powered system suits my tastes. Just wish they weren't so bugged up.

You have to make sure the fluiducts are set to export and you may need to install a servo, I can't recall. Opaque fluiducts are only 2 copper and 1 lead, both of which are quite common.

Yeah sure, its a pretty simple setup, just uses vanilla minecraft stuff. Ill probably fix it up sometime in the next few hours.

I was thinking of using an auto-spawner like I did on the last server, but I cant be stuffed setting up a power system and mob essence collection etc.

The Tinkers smeltery might be like the Railcraft tanks where they have to be an odd size, like 3x3 or 5x5, not 4x4. I haven't tried this though. I definitely saw it in one of DIrewolf's server play series videos, but that is a testing server so it might not have made it into the released version of the mod.

they can't be different sizes , only the default 5x5 outer 3x3 inner as the anysized ones were causing many crashes

Yeah, that I've had no problem with.

Stinks about the sizing thing, though.

But on the bright side! You can melt down Cobblestone into Seared Stone which you can use to build more/bigger smelters! And you can chisel the seared stone into the bricks if you don't want the smooth sides.

Aye, at a rate of about half a stack of cobble to one seared stone.

@Melissa- They can be taller than one block. I typically make mine three layers tall, excluding the base.

Hey, when you're taking out mountains, it comes in handy.

Also, if you have Misc Peripherals, you can actually melt down the compressed cobble into the equivalent.

I think it's 9 cobble per seared stone, actually? So a stack of basic compressed will give a stack of seared.

Just wondering, has anyone had a look at rotarycraft? looks cool, if maybe a bit confusing (though it uses real life science so I should be able to figure it out)

I have a test setup at about 300,-50 where i tried out several different RotaryCraft engines and machines such as a 4 MW hydrokinetic power station to power the RotaryCraft ore extraction process (it can work with less power but will need manual control of the four different steps in that case). So far it's been a fun experience. It does use a lot of iron though and stuff tends to explode violently or at least get damaged beyond repair if it's not tended properly.

Feel free to have a look.

Given that (providing you have an igneous extruder or similar setup) cobblestone is free and infinite, I don't think it's really a wasteful investment...

True. When I did it, I had no access to Igneous Extruders, which is colouring my opinion.

Heck, I think even Vanilla can allow automated crafting of it, since I believe that the smelteries can accept input in the form of placing blocks within them.

So you could have one of those piston shelf pushers with a cobble gen, and just keep pushing stone into it.
