I came on the scene at the tail end of Vanilla. I think the first expansion hit when I was 40-50ish with my first dude.

World PvP was always hilarious but I dunno about the community on my server(s).

Heh, yeah, I've got a decent set-up in this house (finally) if I can just get it all cleaned up and organized. I used to keep my computer desk in a closet, and then it's been in the livingroom of various places we've lived (bedroom is pointless as then how can I use it while wife is sleeping), finally in it's own office.

Hopefully there will be some more update action going on. I've figured out what kind of markers I'm gonna use for battle systems (sharpies, really light ones), and I've still got some brush on glue so I'll be moving forward with that as I go. I think I'll assemble all of the walls and then line them up and divide them in half for making my ships.

Gonna do a bit more of that tonight and then get to bed so I'm not too tired tomorrow. This weekend hopefully I can take pictures of well.. anything

How did you get the purplish markings on those green infinity aliens? I'm wanting to rip that look off for a big slug-thing I found on my painting desk.

The whole skin tone or just the purple dots?

The skin is a 3:1 mix of lust pink and demon skin (minitaire paints), which is painted on all of the skin. Then that's either blotched or striped or otherwise broken up, kind of like camo almost, by a 1:1 mix of pestilence flesh and snow white (still minitaire). Last is the little dots, in ecchymose (darkish purple).

Of course it's one of mine, so the whole thing is dipped in Tudor stain. A couple of washes of black/brown or even green would do the same job though.

Got most/all of the wall bits popped out for my stronghold set. I've still got 6 more sheets of walls from the clean/infested add-ons I got. Supergluing weak contact points before trying to use them is definitely superior, as long as you test-fit them before doing so. Gonna get all of my walls and such popped out and assembled and then array them to see how many I get for each ship.

Have to say, the idea of two ships and playing boarding actions has a ton of potential for fun games! Any idea what rules you'd use? I think Infinity or DZ would be too unwieldy with the number of minis you'd be using, so I'd go for 40k, and this free expansion:
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=fVklVJ2mIuH-ywPkgYH4BA&url=http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/z/ZM6thUpdate.pdf&cd=1&ved=0CB8QFjAA&usg=AFQjCNEsiXFc63jT8Codo8s6RpuACq2DPA&sig2=0ZT5AZdMRlQmaNl717eEXQ

Having played it, it really does feel like a totally different game to your standard 40k match. To sum it up, here's a few things it includes:
Unique missions/force setups
More brutal reaction fire rules balanced by more dangerous consequences for losing an assault
Rules for fighting in vacuums
Rules for the ship coming under fire, parts blowing up ect
Rules that disguise enemy units until you get los to them (think Infinity TO camo but on a squad basis)

Zone Mortalis huh, I've heard of it. I'm not going to have a 2x2' section of board though. I think Infinity may work alright, the ships would be big enough to have more dudes, but if we assume that the crew has gone to ground and it's only soldiers on the prowl...

Which edition of 40k does that link apply to? The last one or has it been updated (in which case I don't have the matching rule set ).

That one is for 6th edition, although there's a 5th-compatible version out there. I don't think any of the changes in 7th would effect it much at all.

You don't really need the 2x2 sections, in theory you could just add those rules on a flat 6x4 board, although that would somewhat miss the point!

WOW was like a part time job that cost you money and wasn't particularly good for your health and relationships.

Absolutely nothing like the countless money and hours spent buying, assembling, and painting miniatures and terrain,,,,,,

@Paradigm I meant that the amount of battle systems I have to make up my two ships would only be something like 2x2' total with a few areas of extra height, so I dunno if that's enough to play the ZM game upon. Would be packed pretty close for Infinity but tighter areas and lots of broken LoS may make up for it.

@Adam, heh yeah pretty much on both counts

Oh, I see what you mean now! Infinity should work then, so long as you bring a ton of cover!

Well everything is going to be divided into rooms in sections of 4", so 4x4" cubes, or 4x8" rooms, or 8x12" sections, you get the idea.

Kind of like this but in 3d at 28mm scale:

With all of my walls split in half and two ships with different designs. For boarding actions I may have them side-by-side docked and maybe with a breach as well.

So with all of the compartments, hackable doors, tons and tons of crates and stuff jutting out from the walls... should make up for the close quarters. Shotguns would be king.

Looks like some kind of boardgame? Nah that's the default ship for that FTL: Faster than Light game.

Since they're what I said I'm doing next... primed 10 more Mars Attacks minis, total of 11 ready now. Gonna get cracking on those when the urge to paint arises.

So here's a little more BS terrain, the med-wall computer/displays, and the medi-bed. Also included are the DZ dead figures:

So the dead figures are all flat on one side except the enforcer, you could *almost* use him as some kind of alt-pose if so inclined.

May trickle a few more images in later, though there may be family visiting time too, hard to say.

On deck, MA minis!

Looking forward to painting Phil for some reason.

Here you can see the results of my penning the stasis/clone/whatever chamber.

Yeah, I don't think I was going to order them either, the dead figures, but I'm glad I have a set. Should be fun to create atmosphere, especially in conjunction with BS.

Painting begins! I think I remember how I painted my martian grunt before. Can't be sure it was this troll hide before I get another one dipped though. Seems a bit lighter and more blue... but nothing else I have comes close and I know I didn't mix a color for the armor. We shall see...

Cheers for the pictures of the dead figures, have not seen them anywhere else. You are right about the possible use of the Enforcer as an alternate pose, he looks a bit narcissistic like he is kissing his bicep. The battle systems stuff looks good, but looks like a fair bit of work too.

I see the dead enforcer (aside from the obvious use) as potentially useful in a diorama or just any time you'd want an enforcer traversing a limited access alley, or up a ladder, or similar. Maybe trying to hug cover literally

The BS stuff just takes a bit more patience and a softer touch than I'm used to, is all. I've been punching things out and organizing them like a madman tonight, but I've still got multiple sheets to go.

I've included my latest musings about organizing the stuff into two ships in a spoiler below. Just my sketch-equivalent note-taking, like to keep notepad handy and make notes as I go. Works great for any mixed paint recipes, and I used to do it to figure out 40k armies, like a what to buy list and such. Feel free to skip it and await results though, not terribly insightful

Spoiler:

BS scifi terrain wall count:
19 assembled
20 more walls
11 more doors

So looks like 40 walls from the base set, nice and even cool...

14 total doors, kind of an odd number but oh well. Maybe this round number came from my add-on choices...

16 infested walls including 4 doors
8 clean walls including 2 doors

So a grand total of 64 wall tiles, and 20 of them as doors.

I've also got two hangar bay doors.

Two double doorways that go with the mixed room/ barraks sheets.

There are 9 8x8 floor sections, and 4 4x4 floor sections, interesting that this comes out to one more floor section, and beneficial too since that makes even flooring for both ships. Well by volume. One ship will have to take the 9th main section and the other will want all four of the 4x4's...

2 window walls

4x airlocks (walls)

2x plasma cells (walls)

One single solitary docking bay.

Contents of one bunker set....

So I said 64 wall tiles but now it looks ilke I've found 8 more from the windows, airlocks, and cells. Sooo... 72 total walls and wall-like objects. No.. wait. Two double doorways. 74 total walls. And then two hangar doorways.

74 total walls.
10 8x8" floor sections (including the smaller 4x4" sections).
2 hangar doorways.
one docking bay
one medicenter
one elevator
two barracks contents
4x room items
2x reactor with central thingabob
1x turbine

Pretty even here, but not 100% I'm also unsure of the exact amount of clips, fascias for going up to double height walls, and so forth.

37 walls per ship. Only enough medicenters, docking bays, elevators, and certain other things I'm forgetting for one ship each.

There are more infested than clean walls, but that doesn't necessitate an imbalance in size.

The gist of this and my thought process to this point is that I'm probably going to have to assemble the docking bay (which only one ship can have at all) first because it's large and part-intensive. I'll have to build this, and design the first ship around it. I may decide that the second ship gets two hangar doors since the other has a much better facility for that etc.

37 walls which are 4" each... nearly 12 feet of walls per ship? Holy moley... Every interior subdivision reduces the outer perimeter, as does height, of which some will be necessary... there simply won't be enough floor clips to handle all of the walls being flat, a certain number will necessarily be used for elevation.

Oooh bunker set came with 2 more double doorways, so 76 wall bits Total of 56 exterior bits in the bunker set, but may not be able to use every last piece pending design of the ships. If I intend to cover my ships with exterior bunker walls I only get 23x4" worth of outer perimeter. That's not so bad, I was kind of figuring that my ships were never going to exceed 1x2" which gives me upwards of a whole foot to play with for each.

I've got enough flooring for 320 square inches of interior... 8x8" per tile, 5 tiles per ship.

Going to have to recheck all of my math these ships are sounding bigger than I had anticipated.

Oh so ok 23x4" outer perimeter right? And I have 38 interior tiles by now... That means I'll have 15 raised wall tiles per ship. The tricky part is how do you handle raised tiles within the ship having an outside via the bunker? Because if you try to bunker the top, the amount of coverage drops and fast. Wait DERP!!!

Wow, kind of stupid here...

The 23x4 is the outer perimeter I can cover but... My earlier assumption included no interior divisions at all... It will probably be likely that I can afford at least several sections of the ship to be 2 bunker walls tall because I won't have as many tiles to cover...

Honestly this is more planning than I'm good at. I may just have to halve the stuff, build one ship the hard way, and then do the other

So I started to make a synopsis of the spoilered text but I ended up doubling it. I think it's going to boil down to halving my parts and building one ship the hard way with trial and error, then having a somewhat easier time with the second

I got one martian done today. I was going to have five done and start work on the soldiers but it was my cousin's birthday and I missed going to the last fairly local gathering, so we went to that. Gonna go dip that martian before turning in, I need to verify that his colors post-dip match up with the initial alien menace.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Confirming that the martian dip is a success. The armor is a touch lighter, but that was probably one too many layers, or perhaps a lighter application of the dip. Serviceable and effectively the same thing. Mass production is given the green-light. Hopefully US soldiers follow suit tomorrow.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Yay martian finished and sealed.

I may try to figure out the US soldier scheme first, but those next 4 martians are as good as done when I get around to them.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Here's my current test/scheme for my US marines/army/whatever for Mars Attacks! I want them to blend in with my corporation troopers, kind of like a local branch or perhaps even grunts since they're using lower tech solid projectile weapons instead of directed energy weapons like the regular corp troops.

This is a re-work of the scheme, basically the same colors but with shortcuts taken. The corporation marines took comparatively *forever* to paint, this guy was less than an hour. He is still freshly dipped in the photo, and needs to be sealed.

What does everyone think about the quality of the white? This was kind of a test for other projects as well, does the dipped white look *good enough*, or does it need some work over the top? I've had decent luck with a couple of Infinity models and leaving their white alone for the dip, but that has tended to be curvier/armored parts, and not folds of cloth. Should I go back over the dipped surface with more white? Of course then I'd have to add darker recesses too. What do you think?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Well hell... I'm actually productive and update-friendly over a weekend and Dakka's silly auto-append policy crampacks it all into one post... Le sigh.

Got my 4 remaining prepped martians finished! Just need to be dipped and sealed, woot! I've got 4 army guys and phil left... then I dunno. I'll either clean and prep the Icestorm basic infantry, or better yet... I'll get out my samurai and ninjas for the diorama as time is running out for that!

Looks good. Those Marines and Soldiers blend pretty well. I've been thinking of picking up a squad for some local defence/cop NPCs in Infinity, could I trouble you for side by side shot with anything Infinity?

I was thinking they may make decent Ghulam according to the older ghulam sculpts, the new ones look a lot more like the hafza. I was thinking corp marines would be good stand-ins for the hafza though, so maybe the US soldiers (still don't remember if army or marines, maybe army?) would be the ghulam in that scenario.

Wonder how a strider stacks up to T.A.G.s, kind of bet he's bigger by a bit, since he's sized such that the arms fit *inside* the cockpit :p
