It looked like a really smart match with AVP, hopefully it hits retail when you can pick some up to complete the pair And being on the same side of the pond should help with retail shipping costs too!

Incoming shots of my first layout/setup:

Reb, infinity SAS, reb commander, imperial guard, reb,

Grim you picked up icestorm are the infinity minis in that bigger than the others? I heard that the new sculpts of old mins are noticeably taller and the rev healer is some kind of giant.

Forgive the butting in, but, not at all. The Mobile Brigada is big. The other Heavy Infantry units are big, but the rest fit into scale well enough. Nothing is out of place big. The new stuff may be larger than the minis they are replacing though.

That terrain looks very convenient to use.

Oh, thanks Red. I didn't even see that second part of the post and then there was a page jump.

And finally to the pictures I promised last post!

Once you get past some of the minor annoyances it's really pretty fun to work with, and really neat to use for set-ups and likely fun in games.

I question the point of my L-shaped building though. With the same amount of wall usage you can increase the size of the interior by 33%, just need another floor tile. And then you get a more spacious interior for the puttage of more neat stuff.

We'll see where I go from here.

P.S. the martians are dipped and ready to be sealed, so pics tomorrow.

May trickle a few more images in later, though there may be family visiting time too, hard to say.

OK yeah I'm going to have to get into diorama's & stuff. That terrain is sweet.

Its more of a pain to work with than I had figured, but its still pretty nice.

I like it for 'living' or temporary displays or gaming areas. I can do one set up and do some games or shoot a series of photos with a story or what have you, and then tear it down and build and entirely different layout.

Very nice setup there. Am I correct in thinking each square on the floor is an inch by an inch? Because that would mean using this stuff in Deadzone would be simple enough, 3x3 squares equals a cube.

@Paradigm, well they're UK based so I think it was 25mm, but yeah an inch You also don't have to use the floors if you don't want. For playability, you could probably just dump the walls onto a DZ mat, though the floor tiles help sell the interior nature of the buildings.

@Cam thanks I really need to organize the front page with a table with links to the best photo dumps. Everything here is also in the gallery so trawling that may be easier than digging through the posts in some ways.

Gonna go seal the Martians after breakfast is done. I got a bit more work on the soldiers yesterday but they're still in the early stages.

I'll do some more scenic shots with better focus when there is time! Gonna do the rest of the marines I have ready (4) and Phil, then it's time for the diorama!

That's the plan I don't get to play much so most of what I do with my models is take pictures, the more interesting and dynamic the better!

May or may not get to the soldiers and Phil today. It was hotter than it has been lately and that's kind of sapped my energy.

Looks good. I think the "L-Shaped" building works in that there are such things, so it looks appropriate/works with the large tank outside it.

Yeah I would assume space constraints are the primary reason for it in the world at large. In terms of stretching cardboard, boxes are superior so we'll see!

I'll still do the human soldiers from mars attacks as these guys haven't been primed yet, but the diorama has to have my focus for now if it's going to get done.

A lot of stuff I've missed here since I last looked in this thread.

The Battle System, or whatever the cardstock terrain is called looks really nice. Are you able to actually disassemble it all again, or did it need to be assembled with glue?

I'm very curious to see how you will do your Oniwaban. Are you going to go witch stock colors on him, or do your own thing?

I see you got the corpses too. Are you going to base them, or leave them off the bases and just use them as set decorations?

Yeah you can take everything apart and reassemble the battle systems terrain, it's probably the strongest aspect of it. There's a bit more prep than I was expecting (almost every individual piece has at least one slot that needs to be very carefully trimmed down to the point that it will fit, but not too big, but just one slot not all of them), but once that's over you can just slide everything apart and it's a bit easier than popping out battlezone clips. Some of the pieces I've glued to reinforce where they connect to eachother, but none of the separate components need be permanently attached.

The corpses probably won't get bases, doesn't seem like they really need them for any of their potential purposes. Too bad it would be prohibitively expensive to buy enough dead figures for each fallen member of a strike team

I'm gonna try to do a sketch of my diorama and if it comes out i'll share it, but the gist is that the Oniwaban will be camped in a building behind a door that Mushashi is facing, with the sniper up on another building waiting to shoot him. The idea for the oniwaban is to have him in a dark room with just a little bit of OSL lighting, still working out the details of how and where. The other ninja is gonna hopefuly be painted like her TO camo is blending her into the background. Mushashi will get a normal paint job, but as good of one as I can muster, preferably blended by hand such that dip has no effect.

Wow, that battle systems stuff looks great. Looks like you've been busy lately, Grim.

I'm liking the way the Martians look. I've been thinking about picking up the game since its on Miniature Market for 50$. Your figures may have tipped the scales!

Wow fifty bucks already? That's a steal, not much over a dollar per mini and that's forgetting the terrain and neat rules

Well good news and bad news...

I managed to get my 3 diorama models primed.

My Sotar is now broken due to over tightening one of the bits in an attempt to make it more air-tight and foil the sputtering issue it was giving me while priming those models.

I bought it for 70something, I've seen them as low as 60somethin on amazon. Right now? They're almost 200 bucks.

I'm going to see if I can get a screw-out or what have you to extract the broken piece from the main body of the gun, but even then I'm not optimistic. Even if they sell just the largest nozzle housing alone (and they very most likely sell it in a kit), the gun supposedly MSRP's around 400 dollars and all of it's parts are exorbitantly priced because of this. I'll be out at least 30 bucks to replace it.

Of course if I don't do that, I'll have to be without a airbrush all winter. I could try to troubleshoot/repair my old china-iwata-supercheap-knockoff, but it would only be good enough to do buildings and undercoats. But since it gets difficult to rattlecan prime in the winter... might be a road I explore.

BAH.

Yep lowest I can find it is for $27 free shipping and there's no picture. part number looks probably right but meh, never used the company before.

Guess I'll focus on what I have primed for now, though I'll have to sort something out if I wanna finish the diorama, dunno that I can get myself to paint buildings without my airbrush.

@Shas, lol yep, should be fun to paint

Well went straight to badger and followed links on their site and found a somewhat more reputable parts-haver. Still 27 dollars, haven't checked on shipping as I'm not willing to spend the money just yet. Will have to buckle down and do it sooner or later though.

Yeah that sounds about right for her.

I'm gonna paint her such that she looks like whatever is behind her. Not sure what that'll be yet, either a billboard or the wall of a building. To suggest her TO camo is active and she's about to take a surprise shot.

Looks good

I managed to dig out my old airbrush and get it working. It's pretty blunt and imprecise, but it'll do for basecoats and maybe stencil work on larger pieces. I'm hoping to get by on this brush until the winter sales season hits and the SOTAR 20/20 hopefully goes on sale again like it did last year (or was it two years ago.. or maybe both?). I'd rather spend 60-90 on a new gun and use the old one to have all kinds of spare parts, rather than spending 30 bucks to replace one part now (and on the chance that wouldn't fix the gun too...).

I've got 4 mars attacks human soldiers about ready for dip, will try to dip tonight and seal them tomorrow. Pics when they're sealed. This has cleared the way to the Infinity minis for my diorama.

Soldiers dipped, ready to go, may take a picture but you only get so much mileage out of the glossy sheen before they get dusted.

Really gotta get to work on the display base portion of the samurai diorama, both ninjas are going to be painted according to the terrain so...
