Yeah the wolf is getting teeth. I forgot about them and it was a time sensitive dip them all or wait a week or three to have another chance kinda thing. I tried to give him those neat blue eyes that some wolves have. It failed miserably, when I do the teeth I'll be trying to fix those as well.

These are barbarian babes though, not amazons They just have weird fashion sense (but like to match being twins and all).

I do recall hearing/reading something about amazon warriors having a single mastectomy so they could draw their bows back better... or something... but I dunno seems kind of far fetched what with infection rates after amateur surgeries in the past. The missing armor makes more sense lol, or just a linen wrap ala sports bra for crying out loud.

Six for Orcs huh, blerg, Dakka's blood runs green

Ok so here's last month's entry for the tale of painters challenge, a bit late but here:

So the dragon turtle can be used for other things both TNT and as a certain monster for Pulp Alley in a pinch. The orc sits relatively nicely atop him and I figure he's just butch and holds on with his legs and maybe an arm when he has to. Chains would over complicate things. The orc is pretty bland for a boss though. I may go over his armor with a wash or glaze of some color at some point. Red or maybe yellow/orange/brown or something. Either make it more threatening with red, or more ostentatious with a golden color. I think all of the orcs with shields are gonna need some kind of spot color on them too, an army symbol..just dunno what.

Meh, that first one is a bit blurrier than I thought...

Anyway it's an orc boss on big fangly monster, or what should count as an Orc Krudger on Slasher for my fledgling KoW Orc army. Army currently has two bosses which eat up all the slots for bosses/monsters from the two regiments I have. Really need a horde, those unlock better than double what a regiment does I think and don't cost as much. Need to do so to fit in the Giant and the Trolls. I guess regular ax horde will do it. Be a bit of a slog, probably 28 of them. Probably build them as two regiments that happily Voltron into a horde most of the time as doing more than 14 at once would break me. And probably towards the end of the year when I have more time.

For the last month of the first issue of the challenge... Not sure. Doubt I can paint 14 orcs even with almost the whole month left. Maybe the trolls or the giant, even if that's largely eating dessert first.... it may be all I have time for.

I love that turtle. The rider is just a gore rider, right? He fits pretty well.

I know what you mean about orc shields. Mine are all just red right now, as I don't have the patience to freehand 80 or so shields. I like the transfers Mantic sells, but shipping would take them right out of my comfort zone for prices.

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

Painting total as of 3429/2024: 56 plus a Deva King statue
Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

Thanks folks

Got one color based on the skulks last night before sleeping and got past that block I was having with the goblins.

Also did some image training on the trolls and giant, the they're looking easier all the time .

Dragon Turtle is looking great. Any closer to a decision on the July-December challenge? Do an either/and, I say - with Orcs as one of the options. And then make use of the more exotic options in the O&G list to keep it interesting, and even allies.

Yeah im already soft committed to orcs after recent feedback. I wanna work at least three blocks in with the fun stuff but we'll see.

So if I'm mainlining Orcs I think the next closest options were TNT and Infinity. I'll throw terrain (any) into the mix as well.

Would still prefer to knock it down to one additional stretch/flex goal pool though.

Feel free to weigh in again folks

Go with "Gang-Sized Things" and go back and forth between TNT and Infinity as you feel?

Make the Orcs the primary target and the "Gangs" your stretch goals as a reward after you've gotten the Orcs done?

Yeah, probably that, Az. I'm just gonna try to do orcs but if I really *need* to do one of the other things there will be some precedent

That's kind of awesome, is it from GW? If so it looks like they're starting to take their art direction from WoW what with the giant shoulder pads and jaw thing. Although I guess they kind of always had those things too. Maybe it's just the black color scheme making me think that.

I believe he is technically the krudger and the giant turtle is the slasher. Not really sure what a Krudger is.. something englishy I reckon.

Sorry, the names for Mantic orc stuff don't stick with me quite as much as the GW stuff. Definite mix up there I think.
The model is indeed a GW creation. It's a Megaboss on a Maw Krusha. Or he can be built as the character called the Fist of Gork.

The Megaboss is quite big and about as tall as a 40k dreadnought. On foot he uses a 60mm base and mounted he sits on a 160mm base. Megaboss is sculpted by Brian Nelson who did classic GW orcs I believe.

I've ordered 1 box of the Orruk Brutes already, and am horribly tempted to order another two - giving me 15 in total - I'd probably use them as "Ogre Allies" for my Orcs if they're as big as I hope. four regiments/two hordes or something something Ogres, plus converting one each to a standard, a shaman(?) and a Warlord.

I'd like the Megaboss or whatever he's called, but $50-odd for one model makes me hesitate much more than $60 for 5.

To be honest, the Brutes are pretty massive in their own right so you could use them. Left is a Black Orc, centre is a Brute and obvy right is the Megaboss on foot.

I buckled when I got home from work. Another 2 boxes of those Orc-Ogres. Now stop pointing that Mega-boss thing at me before something terrible happens again...

And before we get off the subject of Orcs... here's a few more:

And some goblins. And a mawbeast who's somewhere else at the moment. Those 7 models will form a troop of KoW Orc Skulks and serve as my 6th submission for the Tale of Painters run by Az. Gonna try to do some more this month, you can see in the photo a bit of the trolls I'm working on now.

thanks! , i posted the shotty holder, different shades of gray used.

I like the fantasy Orcs using dull colors, as they are wearinf, makes them more likely to camouflage into a forest zone for Orc lead ambushes!

Close-ups aren't friendly to my haste and messy painting

But yeah there will be more, once the base is done.

Working on the trolls. Got one a bit further than his friends though e still needs details and a wash.

I'm not a massive fan of those trolls, but they're decent - and far, far better than the KS1 models. You're keeping them on the 5omm bases, or is that just for painting before clear rounds?
